Dragon Ball Super |OT6| Put your back into it.

I'm struggling to see how he's been set up to be a hero though?

Especially the Resurrection F stuff. As the story was, Vegeta beat up a worn out Freeza who was already essentially losing to Goku.

If Vegeta was to be the hero of that arc/movie, I would've had him and Goku reverse roles. Have Vegeta be the one to wear Freeza out but because he's starting to take his time with the fight to return the favor for what happened to his race, he gets taken out by the laser gun. Then have Goku "defeat" Freeza, but his willingness to let him live results in the Earth getting destroyed. And then have Vegeta be the one to deliver the killing blow.

I felt like that scenario would've been more satisfying and actually better display both their flaws.

Holy crap!
What if freeza realizes there are Saiyans in universe 6 and decides to take them on.
And either fembroly takes him out, or vegeta defends them.

Watch in Japanese, start with the Dragon Ball anime then go to the Dragon Ball Kai anime (a "remaster" of Z). The first part of Kai cuts out most of the filler, but sadly Kai The Final Chapters leaves most of the filler in for the final arc.

I would if I could find it anywhere. All I can find is Dragon Ball Super in Japanese on Crunchyroll.

One thing I'm happy with about DBF is actual combo's, and comboing into Super attacks.. Xenoverse's press one button to do something is embarrassing.

Xenoverse has 2 attack buttons that you can chain together for combos as well as different technical things like teleports and such to do combos.

Fighting wise that's good, but I don't like Super's and Ultimate's being mapped to a single button. Makes them feel unrewarding to use.
I guess for something going down the route of RPG mechanics it makes sense, so I do understand why it's like that in Xenoverse.

So do I watch it like this:

1) Dragon Ball Kai
2) Dragon Ball Kai The Final Chapters
3) Dragon Ball Super

Ignore:
- Dragon Ball
- Dragon Ball Z

?

1) Dragon Ball
2) Dragon Ball Z (or Dragon Ball Kai if you want to skip fillers, but there is more censorship and top and bottom parts of the screen are cut out to fit 16:9 aspect ratio)
3) Dragon Ball Super

In RoF Vegeta was basically the "me too" character that he's been through most of Super now. Boring.

Do not ignore Dragon Ball.

Only Final Chapters is cropped.
Z's filler makes it a bad recommendation for a new comer.

He is waaay different than Buu saga. That was still a guy who would die for his pride, valued strength over his family, ect ect. Current Vegeta actually took a master, trained with Goku, and learned to take a joke. He's about as different as he could possibly be.
Anyways, I feel he has never been set up better to be the hero. It feels like the perfect moment. He's becoming the voice of reason while Goku is edging on heel turn with his bullshit.

He's openly disregarding the idea of teamwork while the arc is pushing it strongly though. He likely will be punished for something like that.

Do not listen to the ppl who say start with Z. It's literally them saying "start with the sequel".

Watch Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Kai, The two Super movies, and then start Dragon Ball Super at the beginning of the U6/U7 tournament. Look that up only once youve caught up.

Theres even a fan recut of Dragon Ball to cut filler, let me know if you're curious. You will not regret it.

I can understand why some nostalgia-heads are saying start with Z, but Z is 100x better if you start at the beginning.

No no no. I disagree.

The best option is reading the manga, from the start.

If you can't, I think watching Kai is better.

It does have a summary of Dragon Ball, to give you the context, and then you're good to go.

Dragon Ball anime has so many flaws (unlike the manga), that I can't honestly recommend it like this. It's so long too, and has a shit load of fillers.

Honestly no.

Yeah, I'm one of the jerks who likes Z better, but it's still better to see the world build up from almost nothing.

EDIT: Actually, I agree with Slaythe here
*washes mouth out with soap*
. The manga's the best, takes the least amount of time to go through, but it still feels great because Toriyama captures motion really well. Though I don't feel like the anime's too much worse though, though it's not a bad choice if you absolutely can't handle manga.

I'm gonna start and see if it is something for me, and if it is something I will want to invest time into. When I've finished Dragon Ball, I hope you don't mind me asking what to watch next again.

But I'm confused now:

1) Dragon Ball
2) Dragon Ball Kai
3) Dragon Ball The Final Chapters
4) Dragon Ball Super movie 1
5) Dragon Ball Super movie 2
6) Dragon Ball Super

Dragonball = Manga (first volumes)

|
V

Z = Kai = Manga (rest of the volumes)

|
V

Super (first two arcs) = Battle of Gods + Resurrection F (movies)

|
V

Super (everything after that)

Yes this is the correct order. Also find a list of filler episodes for DB and skip them it will make the pacing much better.

Guys, for newcomers, in 2017 ...

Come on, he wants to know what DBZ is about.

Should he go through 153 episodes with robot fillers and the "puff puff" 80s anime scenes, or just watch the recap in Kai to get started ?

If he likes Kai up to the cell saga, he can discover the origins of Dragon Ball later on.

It's not like knowing what Yamcha did is "vital".

I suggested to him to watch some of the movies that are not canon to get the "feel" of the old school shows and see who the characters are.

I think it's the best.

I'm saying this because I tried getting some friends into it, and it didn't go well. While the ones that weren't put off and decided to read the manga ended up loving it.

This would be the best way. The reason to watch the Super movies first, before watching the Super anime, is because the anime of Super dedicated 27 or so episodes to a retelling of both movies, and while there are some differences, they look worse.

When you get to Super, if you want better clarification we can help you out, because there are in between episodes that aren't related to the retellings, that might be worth watching.

Either way, start with Dragon Ball. Then Kai.

Well I guess just watching Kai -> DB Super Movie 1, 2 -> startin Super in the mid-30 episodes isn't so bad.

But seriously consider reading the DB manga, or at least spending 10 minutes to search the internet for the fan recut of Dragon Ball.

My personal bias is that I didn't watch DB until post Cell saga in DBZ, and I don't feel like that hurt my enjoyment of the show. I was more excited to learn more about the characters.

Yes that fan recut of DB is amazing.

well whether you watch DB or not is a personal choice.... I GUESS. If it were up to me you absolutely should read the DB manga then watch Kai. The manga can be read in full in a week at your leisure.

EITHER WAY

Do not watch the original funimation dub of Z. Make sure you watch Kai

Read the mangas for DB and DBZ if you could. Toriyama's pace is very good in them, and things progress pretty fast.

IMO, DBZ is worth watching for the JP dub as it has Spirit vs. Spirit when Gohan goes SSJ2 and for Daisuke Gori as Mr. Satan.

Maybe they can appreciate the original Funimation dub...
IN THE NEXT DIMENSION!

For sure reading the manga would be ideal.

I love Dragon Ball as a whole.

I'm just aware that the original tv show has a lot of flaws for 2017 people. Which I can easily understand.

For somebody who wants to see what it's all about, I recommend going with Kai. Nothing stops them from watching / reading the origins later on. :)

don't watch the dragon ball anime

read the manga

when you see a guy called Trunks appear and then he leaves with a warning for Goku, search for the filler episode where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive

that's it

I don't like reading, especially if the art isn't colored and sharp.

I'm gonna give the Dragon Ball pilot a chance now.

There's a full color edition of the manga.

FFS why is the later Canadian dub so hard to legally get a hold of? Like I have the original 2 seasons, but I want the dub that started from Cell, the Canadian DB, Canadian GT.
