Senators Announce Agreement on Russia Sanctions

"or some other entity"
...like a demon or something?

I can't believe I have to do this, but to be BOTTOM OF THE BARREL fair to Trump, that's a December tweet from before the FBI made the same conclusion as the IC.

But I'm sure that within the next few weeks Trump will post another tweet where he yet again claims the Russia stuff is fake news.

Well I hope Tsar Putitin release the tape now that his boy has completely failed his mission.

If the tape exists, it's not in Putin's interest anymore to release it. If it was released, everyone would know where it came from. Not to mention that the U.S. being led by an embarrassingly incompetent leader is victory enough.

Wow, was scared it was going to be the opposite when I saw the thread title and thought the sanctions were going to be lifted for a second there. In any case, going to be interesting to see if Trump actually vetoes it or not.

Why not? It would humiliate part of the US citizens, the part that voted for pissbaby.

I think Putitin has a sense of humor.

It would humilate US citizens with very poor decision making skills when it comes to politics, which might prod them into either not voting or thinking about their votes, which in turn would lead to better leadership that is very much opposed to Russia.

Probably wiser minds in the Senate leadership are well aware that Trump speaking against Comey, Mueller, et al. is causing competent and rational people in the intelligence services to flee the GOP.

Doesn't seem like a coincidence this is happening before Session's testimony.

Why does Putin care about US leadership? He will be king of the Russia until his death and Russia sanction will stay regardless.

On top of that Senate Intel Committee had a closed door session with Admiral Rogers of the NSA tonight. Certainly interesting timing

I want to see this vetoed by Trump and then overridden by Congress. Let's see who the traitors are.
What if they oppose re-enacting the sanctions on Iran like Bernie Sanders, Dianne Feinstein, Kirsten Gillibrand, Dick Durbin, Tom Carper, Rand Paul, Jeff Merkley, and Tom Udall? And potentially Chris Murphy? (Who except for the latter voted against the resolution last week.)

Sanctions are likely costing Putin himself millions of dollars.

Billions. Well the people of Russia will just have to deal and Putin probably will dig up something worthy and sell it to the Chinese. Maybe some nuclear sub tech since China already have better fighters and naval vessels. Maybe more gas right.

To be honest I find this really disappointing.

I refer of course to the lack of Sesame Street "L" GIFs in this thread.

He is going to veto, get overriden and then not understand why its still a law.

A lot of us are celebrating this for political reasons but the reality is that this is more harmful to the world than for example the Blitz. The lack of explosive violence helps it slip under the radar but Trump supporters are either willing or stupid collaborators. There's no other constituency.

i'd like to imagine that he'll veto this (even though it'd look bad-not that he gives a fuck) but that would assume he would read the actual executive order before signing it which he obviously wont' be doing

He can't veto it considering it was 97-2 (don't know who those two were yet).

It only has to go through the House now and even they're not all peachy keen on Russia. Those who vote "No" against this, we'll know they're Russian stooges.

I know, which is why I said it'd look bad. You know he doesn't give a fuck about that so he'll probably consider actually doing it.

Good news for once today that last bullet point is very interesting.

Of course next week Trump dissolves the Senate and publically displays the death star for the first time. Russia is going to get real hot at Trump for not following through on his side of the bargain to lift sanctions. Peepee tape release incoming.

For those worried that the House might not pass it, never fear, Lindsey Graham is here:

South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham has predicted that Trump would ultimately sign the bill – but warned that if he did not, Congress would override his veto.

"Any member of the Congress who doesn't want to punish Russia for what they've done is betraying democracy," Graham said on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday.

"And if the president doesn't sign this bill to punish Russia, he would be betraying democracy."

It'll be interesting to see what Trump does. A symbolic veto harms nothing but his ego and if something, anything goes bad it'll be on Congress.

We already know there's one thing coming up that everyone's been forgetting: I'm pretty sure Russia haven't expelled US diplomats/spies after Obama expelled theirs. Correct me if I'm wrong but Putin delayed that one and it's probably not going anywhere if they get their installations and such back like Trump has been pushing for. So there's that at least.

Did Lindsey's balls drop or something?

Folks like him might be spineless and fall in line when it comes to protecting the GOP's interests, but there's no benefit to the GOP refusing to punish Russia for their actions in 2016, so they're all for it. There's no reasonable way to refuse to impose these sanctions.

It's the "uncovering that Trump's campaign was complicit in it" part they are trying to hinder.
