Was link really that bad?
Yesssssssss. It's going to be a good day when that comes out.
Hearing Yuri Lowenthal yell Rengeki is etched into my mind like no other video game line.
So if you play this game on the PC, you're basically playing a PC game about playing a PC (MMO) game?
Yes! Now all we need is an ESRB or something for USA.
Well, I don't need it ;PYes! Now all we need is an ESRB or something for USA.
I'd say it is, yeah. It is pretty much a prologue of some sort, and it introduces you to many of the characters. And it's pretty good as far as I remember (especially if you're playing the games later). Is it recommended to watch Roots before playing this one?

Recommended but not really necessary in my opinionIs it recommended to watch Roots before playing this one?

I've played all 4 of the 1st games already. I've been pretty interested in watching Roots anyway so I might as well.Recommended but not really necessary in my opinion
You can also just watch the terminal disc that comes with this if you want. It's a summary of the first four games, you should be good to go with that.
Rengeki Demon Blade will be on my tombstone.

Nice!
Its dot hack sign, the quad games , sign's 2 odd last episodes (one relating to a character in the game and mimiru(past) and the reunion episode which happens with the both casts after the game though I think its non canon due to gu) which were dvd/br released (not on TV), roots then GU trilogy(this HD remaster)I watched the .hack//sign anime back in the day and it left off with a cliffhanger that I assume got resolved in the original 4 games, which I did not play.
So the timeline here is...
Sign anime
original games (recapped with Terminal disc?)
Roots anime
Then this collection?
Is that all I need or am I missing something else?

Yeah those should be enough to get the overall story. There was also a special episode that takes place after the events of the GU games but I haven't seen it. That might be worth checking out after you get through the rest of that list.
Looks like it streams on Funimation, so once we have a release date for it, we could do a group watch (1 episode a day) until it releases.

I'm guessing it's harder to make IMOQ's art direction look good today with just a remaster.
You say this but G.U. are the .hack games with the marriage/friendship event at the end and no less than 3 characters vying for the MC for a large chunk of the story!.hack// is SAO without all the love harem BS.
The first 14 episodes kick off the plot an driving goal behind Haseo's actions. Everything after is character/world building for things that'll show up later in the games. Ep.24 is when the story catches up to the beginning of Vol.1. The final two eps have some heavy late game Vol.2 spoilers. But you'll prolly have worked those things out for yourself, especially if you're watching the show and playing the games sorta side-by-side so watching 'em before the end of Vol.2's no big deal.Is it recommended to watch Roots before playing this one?
Bleh. It was trash. Worthless. Would have been the death knell of the series ending with thatAnyone still remember that CGi movie set after GU with female Kite?
I didn't think it was too bad. It felt kind of like a retelling of the original story and didn't really explain much in the context of the rest of the series, but on its own it was a nice little thing to watch.Bleh. It was trash. Worthless. Would have been the death knell of the series ending with that
30/35/25 for a regular non-100% playthrough of each.OH YEAH BOY
How long is each episode btw?
I don't know if they're gonna put her in the remaster, but there is indeed GU concept art of her.So I wonder what this was about?
Someone said that Blackrose from IMOQ was originally set to appear in Volume 3 of G.U. but ultimately cut. Any truth to that rumor? Could CC2 be attempting to restore cut content to the games in the remaster?
EDIT: fixed the link
What? IMOQ's art direction is what makes it great imo, the root towns, fields and dungeons were great.I'm guessing it's harder to make IMOQ's art direction look good today with just a remaster.
Ah, I remember the original .hack games. Wish they were bundling those with this.
Very interesting and strange concept at the time of a sort of single player MMO with you being able to recieve emails and such.
Only played the first two entries of the original series but always wanted to go back and do everything I missed.
Challenge to anyone that thinks Link gets to ridiculous/dumb:
Rewatch Online Jack ep.6
Then come back here an explain that shit lol.
Speaking of Online Jack, surely that was originally animated in HD? If not uh... it may end up looking kinda ugly x.x;
This was in play from the start of G.U. Terminal Disc doesn't outright say it of course but it works looking back on it. Heck, ya could argue this is what happened to Harald.Link has THE MAIN CHARACTER BEING SUCKED INTO THE GAME. His literal physical body. Not his mind, but his actual real self.
Stupider thanThat is BEYOND stupider anything else the series has done.
