This looks really great.

I refuse to accept that .hack has more fans than Xenosaga.

Also, where the FUCK is Link? Port that game.

With the amount of .Hack media that came out in japan, it probably is more popular than xenosaga over there.
As for Link, it's not a HD port, but i think there exist a fan translation of it.

Put it on Switch and rework it to tie into Xenoblade X. Call it Xenoblade X Origins: Xenosaga.

I don't have to accept facts.

Also, the .hack mobile game was really good too.

Why would they rework it into Xenoblade? Xenosaga is dead, the best they'd be able to do is use the DS version as a basis for X2. Honestly, the only way I would really accept an addition to the series is if Soraya Saga is going to be involved.

Best way to sell? I wouldn't mind offloading my copies.

So far I've only seen them on ebay. And that could have problems.

Let this do well so we can get a new .hack PS4 trilogy!

I do wonder though, if they de-canon everything after G.U, where would the story even go if we got a new trilogy of games? I mean, I'd love a new trilogy more than anything, but I don't know where else they could go with it that doesn't get as insane as what we got after G.U.

...But for the love of all things holy, they need to stay as far away Sword Art Online as possible. Don't take any cues from it what so ever. I've always found it to be .Hack...with everything I liked about .Hack stripped away.

I own the first two on PS2, but they are in rough shape. Never was able to track down the third title at a reasonable price, so this is a welcome package to me if it releases in the West.

This series always reminded me vaguely of the Hyperdimension Neptunia games, minus all the "fan service".

It's probably more due to the fact that the original games would need a overhaul in some departments, such as the battle system.

Yeah, I played through the original despite the combat and in G.U. it was something I didn't feel really dragged it down so much.

While I also played the original and even finished it, I wouldn't say that the battle system was particularly any good. With all those invincibilities and super basic combat, I wouldn't even say that it was fun and more of a necessary evil thing.
Which is also the reason why I vastly prefer G.U..

But if they were to remake the OG 4 like vanillaware with Odin Sphere, then I would be absolutely hyped.

THIS IS HUGE

Cyberconnect2 is the king of worldbuilding and lore and they did an incredible job at making the .hack// games feel like you're an actual dude logging in on a computer, checking emails, and playing an MMO. These games were incredibly immersive, though I think IMOQ did a better job of it. I would've much preferred and HD version of those games, though I imagine they'd take a significantly higher amount of effort to re-release due to how poor graphically they are and how weak the combat was.

I'm hype. And on PC too! Day one buy for sure. I just hope we someday see the Little Tail Bronx series get some nice treatment from CC2 too.

Yeah agreed I imagine we're getting this first at least since it'd take a lot more time to overhaul the other titles.

So did any .hack fans in the thread keep up with Guilty Dragon or New World? How was the story in those? Any plot connections to the main series?

I did not and feel some regret for it. I don't normally play mobile games, especially ones marketed as sequels in a series of games fans wanted to see as a full home console/portable experience. Looking back on it all, I should've put my stubbornness aside, be more open minded, and supported the .Hack name regardless of where it ultimately went.

I just realized something. This is getting an actual PC release in Japan right? Which would mean that it has to have Japanese sound files, which means that if a potential localized version is dub-only, an undub patch would be possible. Right?

Probably. I'm sure someone would eventually try to make that happen, given the opportunity.

Hoping this "reboot" thing is a mis-understanding/translation. I'm taking it as "relaunching" the series.

Cause a reboot'd be awful an grounds for giving up on the series imo. Part of the series appeal to me was its constant ongoing story as the years passed by in real life from 2001 to 2017 (first chapter of the LotT manga to final chapters of the Bullet novel) and in-universe from 2007 to 2032 (fragment to New World). There have been some minor inconsistancies (animation errors and such) but overall its been a super solid canon.

Chopping off everything post-G.U. Vol.3 means no G.U. Returner, Peaco's Story, G.U. Trilogy, Epitaph of Twilight, Link, Quantum Introduction, Quantum, Bullet, The Movie, Versus, Thanatos Report, Guilty Dragon, and New World. That's a ton of good stuff people seem eager ta toss out because??

Because they want to appeal to a younger generation. All that post GU stuff is expanded universe stuff imo, kids these days have very little or no respect for the classics, let alone spend an hour or two exposing themselves to source material, if it's not accepted by mainstream pop culture. Personally I just don't want to see them turn .Hack into something that suppose to compete with Sword Art Online by mirroring it tit for tat. The two appeal to me for different reasons.

We'll see how this all plays out though, for better or worse.

Wha? Then why not go back to the start? Wouldn't G.U. be considered just expanded universe stuff from IMOQ? 3rd Season stuff was far more important to the overall series plot than G.U. was by a wide margin.

I'm still pretty much in the dark about SAO stuff so I dunno what ta worry over in that regard!

Because almost none of that stuff was translated. (Since with this getting a PC release it's 99.99% sure to get a western release.)

Plus, if they have a story they wish to tell post-G.U. then it gets in the way of their freedom.

Same reason Disney made the old EU become Legends.

Plus some of the later stuff like Link just made things dumb.

I'm guessing it's harder to make IMOQ's art direction look good today with just a remaster.

Will pick this up on pc.

Always wanted to finish the volumes. Never got past volume 1 cause that's all that was out in the us when I played it. Never got the others as I left behind my ps2 for pc gaming.

Still have my disk for vol1 too, might just see how the remaster compares to what I can get the og vol1 to look like with an emulator and modern gpu power.

They did have a story they wanted ta tell past G.U. and they have done so!

G.U. has real dumb stuff right from the start an all the way up to the end!

I think a lot of it has to do with having to redo the combat system in IMOQ. That shit was clunky and aged poorly 10 years ago.
;_; I dun care what ya all say, IMOQ's art direction is still amazing and its combat is way more fun than G.U.'s!

G.U.'s battles could be helped along by:
getting rid of skill / item use cooldown
drastically reducing the cost of skill SP. DRASTICALLY
make basic attacks do more then a few points of damage
bring back IMOQ's party command button & menu layout

Bam! Battling becomes far far less of a slog!

probably

it sounds like there will be a "volume 4" type of post game, that would be dope

They'd have to remove the stat books because they're gamebreaking the moment you get access to them, unless they don't care if a "volume 4" is balanced.

I played through Infection not too long ago in PCSX2 and I still love that game. I can see why some people didn't like the original series, but I really wish they would have started there (maybe remove the goblin chasing :P).

Is there any good summary of what happened in these two games? And is it canon in any way?

I just saw the screens and it looks better than what i imagined. I guess this will be released soon since it's at 80% of completion. Now we patiently wait for the english localization...

BTW any info about that new .hack game for PS4 that comes after this?

I'd really like ta know more about these two games an their stories myself. From what I understand reading bits & pieces of stuff by other people, New World carries on from Guilty Dragon so those two should be canon to one another. An I haven't read anything saying GD isn't canon to the rest of the series. They haven't done any other story in the 2030-2032 period which says those games don't count so I'd just assume that they do! The person/people translating Link are working on GD & NW scripts but Link is priority as its so soooo much closer ta being finished.

Ya can't do that, gob!
We goblins get so little recognition as it is, gob!
If anything they should drop the Grunty raising, gob!
Nothing but a damn grind collecting those BLOODY EGGS, gob gob!

The first GU was one of my favourite games! Haven't played the rest of the series though.

Since they're remastering it for the PC as well, I feel they're aiming at the Western market. Hoping to hear news soon.

Anyone still remember that CGi movie set after GU with female Kite?
I saw it in a cinema and aside from the story being about
yet another AI induced coma
, I really enjoyed it!

I hope everything from Link is going to be erased from the canon if they decided to continue the series on the PS4.
That game...

I didn't know they were still working on it. I played it with the gameplay patch and then watched the "movie" version they put out on YouTube. Man, it's been a while.

Was link really that bad?

I'm really hope this ends ups coming west. Loved the .hack series when the series was active. I think I have most of the light novels, some of the manga as well, but unfortunately never got around to buying all of the games.

It would be nice if they also did IMOQ but after loading up Infection last night, it would definitely need a lot of work compared to G.U.
