Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Will Sony shudder Bend if Days Gone bombs?

Well, it depends on whats the sale expectation for Days Gone. Also, they recently moved into a new office building, so maybe they are safe for now. Besides, I dont think the cost of operating this studio is as expensive as Guerrila Cambridge and Evolution.

I really hope Days Gone won't bomb. I want Sony Bend to get back to Syphon Filter some day, although I think Sony are totally done with that IP.

Hey sony thread... is the gold ps4 for 250$ a limited time deal or while supplies last or something? I'm trying to get one either 17th or 18th of this month but worries it ends the 16th.

About Sony acquiring new studios, doesn't seem likely to me. I would imagine them making a new one from the ground up, in Europe. Qualified workforce for less money, peripheral countries like Poland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and so on.

Considering some of the very best and most successful developers in the world are from European countries like Sweden and Poland, it's really surprising more publishers haven't invested in development studios there. Particularly when you start getting to eastern or central-eastern Europe countries like Poland or Czech Republic where I'd bet salaries are far lower than western Europe or North America.

Will Sony shudder Bend if Days Gone bombs?

Who knows, but I doubt it will bomb. Total views for the gameplay demo from the conference for the top 4 channels is already at around 6 million. From a rough look, that's only about 1.5 million behind the top 4 channels for the God of War trailer.

Plus, as Elfstruck pointed out Bend have not long relocated into a bigger studio, so I doubt there are any plans to close them down unless the game is a huge The Order-style bomb.

I expect running a development studio in the USA & UK is fairly comparable cost-wise. Plus, I believe GG Cambridge were only about 60 people (Bend is 100+ as I recall) and Evolution were 110 before half the staff were axed, and then they were 55-ish while they finished Driveclub DLC before being closed down for good.

I really hope Days One won't bomb. I want Sony Bend to get back to Syphon Filter some day, although I think Sony are totally done with that IP.

I think a high-quality stealth action game would do well in today's market, but I don't think it'll happen as Sony already has plenty of successful third person action games.

I think it is, similar to the 20th anniversary edition.

Not 100% on that, btw, but I'm pretty sure it's limited time.

they havent moved yet (building still not ready I believe) but yeah, its a sign they have no plans of letting them go after Days Gone ships. But who knows

I find this surprising too. Sweden is basically a videogame Mecca in Europe and have been for awhile, Sony should have opened a studio there ages ago

Kinda Funny's hands-on impressions of Days Gone were great. I cannot wait to get my hands on it, which I'm going to assume is next year (my gut talking, not a rumor or anything of that nature).

I'm going to look at their behind-the-scenes of Spider-Man soon.

Also, if you haven't watched Shu's Kinda Funny/Gamespot interview, please do. There's a thread on the board as well. The fact that Bluepoint worked on the remasters on the PS3 and is remaking every asset so it looks as good as a PS4 game is so freaking exciting. I remember when it released, the common line was, "This is a PS3 game they released on the PS2," due to the constant slowdown/frame rates. Now we're getting a rebuilt-from-the-ground-up SOTC on the PS4? Oh hell yeah.

Is that Kinda Funny stuff on their YouTube channel? I don't really like Greg Miller but would give it a watch for more info on Days Gone.

The Shu interview is not. Everything else is.

I miss Colin, but I do like Greg. Tim I like but he doesn't go into as much detail when he talks games, except I think he did pretty well describing Days Gone.

Sorry for off topic, but this seems like a most active playstation thread.

IIRC PSN codes for games are now region free. I just need to confirm it. Will I be able to pick up a digital game from Canadian Amazon and activate it in Russia?

Source? That's the first I've heard of it.

That's why I'm here to clarify things. Not sure where, but heard that game codes are region free and PS+ subscription is still locked.

'Vote Now: PlayStation.Blog E3 Awards'

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/06/14/vote-now-playstation-blog-best-of-e3-awards/

I voted,
Best trailer: Monster Hunter.
Most Anticipated game: Final Fantasy Dissidia NT.
Most anticipated VR game: No Heroes Allowed.

I want more Japanese games!
Best Trailer: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Most Anticipated Game: God of War
Most Anticipated VR Game: Moss

Sony has a lot of great games coming out, it was pretty difficult to narrow down my favorites.

Seemed like every game shown at E3 received at least some GAF hate. Cynicism and vitriol seemed worse this year than any I can remember. I think Ori 2 and Wolfenstein were about the only things prominently featured at any conference that had little to no hate.

Hating Wolfenstein is a crime.
God of War had a much better reception than last year, really there hasn't been much hate for it.

Most Anticipated VR - The Inpatient

They should have done a lot more categories. This is a pretty weak selection given the sheer number of games shown at E3.

I said this a couple days back but nerves seem to be on the edge on gaf lately

some of the posts in the "yoshida says sony held back exclusives at e3" thread are just...yikes

Then there's the cross platform play thread, where people that don't care for cross platform play and the ppl that question why would a business want to part ways with one of their competitive edges (bigger userbase) are immediately pounced on. also, the whole destiny permanently exclusive content thing that blew up because of an italian site then ppl found out it wasn't even true.

its really toxic right now

Best example, I feel, is Horizon. There was quite an infamous thread where everyone labeled it a bomb.

Going by that trend, I definitely can see Days Gone becoming another hit with the mainstream.

That was the goal from the jump
Oh yeah, I thought MM said something recently on it.

They are probably just following along with the new PS mantra to be careful with release dates and announcements now. I am very very interested in Dreams though. I feel Days Gone, God of War, Spider-Man and Detroit have all solidified themselves as at worse 'good games' and personally I think GoW and Days Gone are gonna be GOTY material.

GTS alo has improved so dramatically since the beta, and even Knack 2 and Everybody's Golf look like solid, family titles. This E3 might not have been as hype, but Sony's first party is putting out quality titles man.

Only question marks remaining are Dreams and what Sucker Punsh is doing.

I agree with everything here. I wonder what else Sony Japan is doing tho. Everybody's golf and V.R are technically collars right? That only leaves knack 2

And Cerny said on Geoff's show that they have something like 5 internal teams there (and 200 developers)

I assume its something like Toyama's team, Knack 2, the Asobo team (Playroom VR) plus other two. That leaves room for a lot of potential unknown stuff

Kinda Funny saw Detroit behind closed doors (They were blown away) and said the devs told them the game is nearly in Alpha stage which they call content complete and can be played from start to finish. Seems like it has a pretty decent chance of making fall 2018.

(Around 9:10)

And speaking of Detroit release date, the exchange between Guillaume de Fondaumière and Shu is very cool.

Shu : When is this game coming out ?
Guillaume : It's coming out when it's finished, thanks to Shuhei.
Shu : *laughs*
Guillaume : We have the luxury of polishing our games at PlayStation.

200 isn´t really much. If they were to make an AAA title it´d take the whole studio then. Even so many would have to be laid off because of redundancies. I don´t think we can expect AAA stuff from Japan Studio internally.

There's enough AAA out there they can continue to give me AA's like gravity rush 2,knack 2,everybody's golf etc

Well, not really something I expect from them, I like the Japan Studio games because they are mostly very unique.

They do a LOT of outsourcing too, especially for art so thats not the only contingency working on their games
