"This Is What Superheroes Would Look Like With Realistic Bodies"

All Star Superman really did the best job of convincing you why people don't realize Clark Kent is Superman.

Especially issue 2. Lois doesn't even believe him when he reveals his identity to her since Superman had gone to all this trouble to hide it, like using Clark Kent robots.

Do they use the bathroom? Is that a concept in comics?

Toned and muscular people don't exist in real life?

Yes ok some of this may or may not be down to steroids, and also having muscles like this doesn't necessarily mean you are very/super strong either but you can look like any of these, I would think that these images are supposed to be "This Is What Superheroes Would Look Like With The Average Persons Body".

Somebody cared so much that they lovingly added underarm cellulite to Harley. Say what you like about the experiment (balderdash!), but that's dedication!

This is so dumb. I was expecting to see normal, fit and well-built people with superhero costumes on with no padding. I thought, cool. But just making them overweight? Why? A superhero, for the most part, would be VERY fit. You'd have to be.

It's one thing to scale back on 12-pac abs and muscles with muscles of their own, but being reasonably fit still falls within the realm of realistic. They just made these guys chunkers.

I hate this whole notion that being fit and in shape is somehow unobtainable for most people.

It's both unobtainable and that pursuing fitness for anything but elite strongmen competitions and/or to fight bears in the woods as you live off nature makes you a piece of shit.

Somehow. Because you can't train your body and your mind and take care of finances at the same time.

With the first Harley drawing I thought they were going to be way more subtle in the execution. Pretty disappointing.

More like this parody artist doesn't know what fit people look like. Superheroes have crazy bodies, but realistic versions wouldn't look like that. We get the real shit in the live action movies!

There's a difference between sculpted, average weight, overweight, and obese ffs. For several of those they went straight to obese.
I think this is the point though. They are a pressure group that in part wants to push for acceptance of obesity. "Fat people are people too" and all that.

God I hate these bullshit articles.
I look a lot better then those "realistic" versions and I go to the gym maybe once a week and eat relatively okay.
I lost nearly 50lbs just by not being a lazy sack of shit.
I'm not letting the bottom of the barrel of our society dictate what is and isn't realistic.

Err...no this is what they would look like if we go by the average American. Realistic bodies "Normal" would be less muscle tone and no six pack, but nowhere near obese.

I guess athletic or fit people aren't normal?
Yea, this is dumb.

Was kinda on board with Harley and Cyborg, but everyone else is just a very uncreative expansion of their cheeks and waist.

Like for Spiderman, that doesn't even make sense for him. If they wanted to make a more 'realistic' portrayal of him, they would have just toned down his muscle, and make him look more gangly.

Really boring "interpretations" all around.

the Cyborg one is the most nonsensical, because its not a dude in a suit, its a dude with robotic replacement for most of his limbs and internal organs

They are. They arent healthy people though. Anyone pushing that idea around is dangerous.
Well it's a complicated topic. Not every less than fit person is unhealthy but either notion can have negative effects on health. Consider an obese kid who comes to believe there is something wrong with them. Or someone becoming bulimic. There is no single answer here.

We do need to combat obesity though, but also need to combat mental health problems, our current approach has been ineffective for both.

Superheroes, realism?

They're Superheroes! Not the average Joe.

This is some dumb shit. And no, realistic doesn't mean out of shape/fat. Realistic can be muscular as well.

Superheroes tend to have idealized proportions in more than just muscle. E.g. they are commonly 7 or more heads tall (heroic proportions used for Greek statues, for example) vs. the 6-6.5 a normal human has.

Spider-Man would look like a twink.

It's funny because I used to frequent a gay bar in college where twinks danced in red speedos. My friend called them the spidermen because they would hang from poles. As an aside, being a young single straight guy at this place got me a lot of free drinks. I can't pull that off anymore... damn dad bod.
