"This Is What Superheroes Would Look Like With Realistic Bodies"

He's also an alien with genetics predisposed to extreme physical prowess. I don't meant to go full Comic Book Guy here but I don't think we have any evidence that his people can even get fat, and I assume if they could it wouldn't happen nearly as easily.

But yeah, the daily workouts would be enough on their own

This is utterly stupid. Not only is the "realistic bodies" notion kind of insulting to anyone with thinner frames (sorry, apparently you don't exist), but it also directly counters the notion that physical fitness (y'know, in order to be a superhero) might be reflective in their design.

I'm all for not fat shaming or whatever, but maybe the agile African ninja guy would be required to have a thinner athletic build. Just spitballin here.

Superman you can kinda give a pass because he's an alien.

Also, people reading comics probably aren't too concerned with realism.

I get what they're trying to do but most of these end up looking silly rather than spreading a helpful message. Using existing characters that have had a long standing legacy just doesn't work, especially Cyborg. He's like 95% machine. He can't gain muscle or fat. They need to promote the shit out of Faith. This comic is hot right now. By doing so it will encourage other people to create new heroes with not so perfect bodies.

They don't care about realism. It's just some people want to see themselves represented in the world of comics.

I've noticed that "realistic" means "negative" in regards to just about anything. When I hear "realistic writing" I now assume either "depressing" or straight up edgelord garbage.

I'm all for more realistic and diverse body types, but some of those bodies just seemed impractical. How does the Black Panther move? Also Spiderman would be skinny as fuck, he's basically a gymnast

Harley is fine with their alteration

Supes could work too, depending on the incarnation it fits well with his classical depictions

Black Panther is just a giant lol

Realistic writing is your friend's 10th grade critical essay where in he summarizes an episode of Dragon Ball Z.

Change the word realistic to average and I feel like this would be a 1 page thread.
Nah, Black Panther is not average lol. Also they did use realistic so they've gotta deal with it.

Also it's cute nobody lost weight, like nope underweight people or people with small/average frames just don't fucking exist I guess.

Isn't the fact that we have actual live action movies featuring real living breathing people portraying these heroes... a look at what they'd look like with realistic bodies? Like... they're literally real people. It doesn't get more real than that. Watching "Captain America: Civil War" or "Batman VS Superman" is literally looking at what those characters would look like with realistic bodies.

I get what they're going for, I think, but this is... a really dumb way of doing this? A better title is "This is what superheroes would look like if they were out of shape"

Didn't this group recently do a similar thing with Disney Princesses or something? I feel like I've seen a "typically fit character turned fat" thread before on Gaf...

She's morbidly obese. You want to promote diabetes, heart disease and cancer just so people can feel better about their unhealthy life style?

She has a body type you don't normally see in superhero comics. She's also not that obese. I think the X-Men are the only group that has heroes that aren't super ripped and in shape.

Realistic means being fat or close to obese? What the hell? With all of the running, punching, summersaulting that these characters tend to do, it's actually unrealistic that they'd be out of shape.

Why is obese always considered realistic when they do these things?

Like that Black panther would get tired from walking up a flight of stairs. Superman looks like a 50s fake fit man. Harley Quinn looks like a bad Halloween costume.

They should just say average American body in these situations, being skinny, or muscular isnt unrealistic. Even being super steroid isnt unrealistic for someone who is supposed to have super strength.

How is telling someone obesity is OK a good thing ?

Was expecting the characters to be drawn with realistic ratios. Instead they just added fat.

Weird.

Isn't the whole point of Super Heroes that they have idealized bodies?

Eh? If you're a super hero you better be in tip top shape. It's not realistic to think slightly overweight doughy people would make a job out of fighting crime and stay that way(Chubby) better yet be successful. If you wanted to go with realism, make the women built and keep the men as is.

As far as Cyborg goes, they should obviously do a series of League of Legends splash art 'shops next. I want to see their Morbidly Obese Karthus.

Does superman even need to be buff though? Doesn't he get his strength from the yellow sun? Its not those muscles doing the work right?

Now that's a character I could see still getting shit done even while double-fisting White Castle and Krispy Kreme's.

On that same note... why would his body store fat? If he doesn't eat, then why would his body need to store fat? Storing sun power... now... I don't know what that would look like lol.
