UK General Election 2017 |OT2| No Government is better than a bad Government

If Labour truly consider themselves to be a government in waiting, Corbyn has wised up and is expecting another election soon, then surely he has to reshuffle the shadow cabinet shortly after the vote on the Queen's speech to make it more credible / palatable to the centre.

I know a few people who were tuned in to what Corbyn was saying but shied away from voting Labour due to the likes of Abbott, McDonnel, Thornberry etc.

I think you're more likely to see Corbyn double down and try to pull the centre further left.

I'm not sure that'd be wise.

He had a huge surge just prior to the polls, and they've remained popular since - best poll ratings in years if I'm remembering rightly.

I'd argue that those centre ground labour MPs owe a lot to their shift leftwards.

There's two schools:

1. Labour really are a government in waiting - another election would see them end up six or seven points clear over the Tories, allowing them to be, at the very least, able to figure out a deal with the SNP.

2. Corbyn's Labour have hit a ceiling in terms of true public support and under the circumstances of a competent Tory campaign they'd actually face much stiffer resistance, potentially going backwards.

OTOH I think this situation will become clearer in the next six months, so the Tories do not need to rush to remove May.

OTOH getting any real Brexit legislation through the HoC is nearly impossible, so for Brexit to work either the Tory Chief Whip is able to find a compromise between Redwood and Clarke or another election is inevitable, just to pass key Brexit bills.

I don't think Corbyn needs massive changes, but the sad truth is that the one massive liability is Abbott. No one's going to be put of voting Labour because of Thornberry, or even really McDonnell, but some will because of Abbott.

would be quite surprised if her replacement isn't permanent, so no worries there.

And yarp, McDonnell most likely aint going anywhere.

No. Boris is lovable, Diane is a black woman.

Lovable? He's a snake in pigs clothing. He's been a known cock end for a while now too. Seriously doubt the clip circulating after Grenfell did him any good tbh, I expect his popularity to lower than in the past and don't expect it to keep going anywhere but south either. The media will only be able to spin his shit for so long and then eventually, like May, it will crumble around him.

A lot of people hate him but a lot also love him right now.

Of course I think if he became pm or ran in an election his lovable oaf routine wouldn't work nearly as well when you under greater scrutiny. He would end up looking like a fool with no idea what he's doing.

Just a repeat of a question earlier, what's the likelihood of the Queens speech being voted down?

It'd take something monumental to happen between now and the vote.

No matter his failings or future prospects, he continues to be portrayed by large parts of the media as a lovable oaf, and the public extend that protection.

Just look back a few weeks to when he grabbed the presenter's questions. For any other politician in the spotlight (and especially Abbot) it would have been a much more serious story.

Not happening.

DUP will never do anything that makes it more likely that the IRA-associating Corbyn will become PM. Only several defections from the Conservative Party itself could sink May, and they aren't at that point yet.

Finding out Abbott hadn't actually been diagnosed with a wasting disease like Parkinsons but had simply fucked up her diabetes maintenance was a new Abbott level.

Then the young lad on the BBC interview having to try and stress to her that 70% is a majority of statistics and 30% a minority was a reminder its not just her blood sugar level to blame for what comes out of her mouth.

Oh man the Eddie marr interview with Boris was staggering.
" This is not the Two Ronnies. You don’t get to answer the previous question.”
Brilliant. Boris made a total tit of himself.

You've just made a really shitty post. You know that?

Type two diabetes is much, much harder to control than type one, but sure - go ahead and make shitty comments.

Nah don't you get it, no matter how badly the Conservatives fuck up in interviews or out right lie, it's Dianne that we need to be focusing on and mocking.

this post says more about you than it ever could about Abbott.

Winning next time should be the priority rather than another Glorious Loss. Let us all hope God King Corbyn can squeak it at the next election or scientists will have to start breeding T-Rex sized crows to feed The Movement.

Well congratulations, you won. Everybody clap for the Pie and Beans minority government.

[clap clap clap]

Now go lead the country like you deserve. Make sure to remember you promised to save our NHS to the tune of 350m a week, negotiate all the Brexit deals and turn down any bad ones and finally make Britain prosperous again.

Also, remember the Tory party policy to get rid of all those brown people from abroad you totally don't like here ... which might explain why you dislike Dianne Abbot so much except she's not a foreigner - I guess you'll just harp on about her for reasons but I digress.

Theresa May is great, Jeremy is a tosser etc.

Am I doing it right? Or, alternatively you can just be nice. And not shitty towards a woman because you're diametrically opposed in viewpoint.

Ah, the polarisation that anyone that isn't chanting the chants in time has to be 'inhuman tory scum' and not one of them those 'neoliberal scums' instead. Positive politics, except when it's anyone that disagrees.

Nobody used the scum pejorative, that's on you.

We're, well I'm condemning your shitty attitude towards a woman with an illness for your personal jollies.

Throwing in some well-meaning "you're a racist because" while you're at it.

Where are we on the position that ranting about May or Rudd makes you a misogynist by the by? Is that how the game is played now?

Attack policies, not the person.

May has shown disastrous policies and is thus attacked - it's also the reason she lost her majority government. She is not attacked on her appearance or the performance of her vital organs.

You're attacking Abbot personally.

That's the difference.

You'd be intrigued to know that Diane agreed with Theresa's internet plans on that BBC interview the other day then.

Surely the name Maybot is a personal attack?

As someone who has a family of diabetics, I'm happy to risk the ban by telling you to go fuck yourself.

My fiancée was diagnosed with type one last year and there are good days and there are bad, very bad days. She recently graduated and started working as a zookeeper and the effects of the British heat along with not realising she had to lower insulin upset her greatly that she didn't understand what was wrong and for me not to be able to help her (outside of making sure we got her blood glucose up fast) was scary.

So I'm right with you there. Fuck anyone who treats that illness like a joke. Nobody asks for it.

Surely the name Maybot is a personal attack?

Not really, at least as far as I can tell Maybot comes from May constantly spouting the same Political sound bites despite what is asked of her, you know like a badly programmed robot.
While what the other user did was attack someone having made a mistake on the dose of their medication.

Which isn't to say that there haven't been personal attacks in this threads to politicians, but you know even then it is usually a bit less aggressive.

I'm not sure at what point people see me calling diabetes a joke, but people see what they want to see when going straight to defence mode. I'm saying it's not the diabetes that makes her a bad politician but that she is a bad idiot.

A lot of the criticism of Abbott was put on the backburner while everyone thought she'd just got recent bad news about a new illness. Diabetes is a shitter no doubt, but just like she missed the Brexit bill vote and now had to miss the end of an election, along with a long litany of her saying the absolute stupidest shit, it's clear she's not cut out for the front bench let alone the high stress job of actually being Home Secretary. She's so consistently the weakest link of Corbyn's Loyalists that if she stays it shows he has no ability to compromise and take the tough choices.

Surely the name Maybot is a personal attack?

For Abbot this is something she can't control, it's just an unfortunate medical condition she'll have to live with for the rest of her life and impair what she can and cannot do.

The strong and stable slogan, using the same soundbites, these were all things May actively chose. Foolish decisions she in her right mind gave the go ahead to.

They're not on the same level.

Awful post, glad to see this result in a ban.
