It's who decides what constitutes equality, that's the issue. If you can't see that putting the people who literally did the oppressing in charge of deciding when the oppression has ended is Not A Good Thing, there's not much more to say here.

But OK let's play this game where you and I decide how much is too much. Can you show me in what way the event in the OP is "too much equality", in the context of women in the games industry? Pro-tip: women are a verrry long way from equal in this industry. Except in the areas of being objectified, receiving rape threats, death threats, and general hatred and bile, and of having their very right to be involved in the industry as either a player or a creator called into question. Oh man they are so very equal-plus on those levels.

The other point you are missing is that this is not even about Rights. You and any other man has the right to hold a men-only videogame conference, no one is preventing that from happening. The difference being you have no Need to do so since your position is not under threat, which means that doing so will appear not only petty but supportive of the existing exclusionary structures - which is why it will garner a much different reaction.

Nothing is permanent, so I don’t understand your point in the context of an event like the OP is reporting on. This isn’t a “permanent” event, it’s just an event. It exists because the opportunity to attend a gaming event without being harassed wasn’t available to all. Now because of these assholes it still isn’t. Status quo: men continue to assert their right to make life hell for women.

Would we? I doubt it. Undoing all social structure just puts us back in an anarchist’s wet dream, where the strongest can force their will on the weakest.
