Reviews seem fine to me, yes, even a 6. People need to remember these are remakes of old platformers, and while they were great in their time there's a lot of new platformers that took the genre forward.

Playing devil's advocate here but I think if you played half of all 3 games it's enough to give a solid opinion, especially if you played the originals.

Bigger problem is that the actual review is very short and does not actually explain very well what he means specifically by "gameplay designs not holding up" or whatever.

They weren't even a 9 when they originally came out.

To be fair, a 9 nowadays it's different than a 9 back then.

Back then it meant it was an excellent, almost essential game. Now, it just means that it's worth buying on launch day.

I'm saying that large install base does not automatically work out to more sales. Crash could have the advantage of 12x the install base, but Mario will still outsell it. Crash is "beloved" by an extremely small fraction of gamers compared to Mario.

Hell, I'm not even convinced Crash will sell significantly more than Knack 2.

I understand the fact that a large install base does not automatically mean more sales for one over the other. What are you basing the rest of your post on? Shouldn't you wait before declaring that SMO will outsell the N.Sane trilogy, no matter what?

I knew there would be some reviewers that would think the game doesn't hold up anymore. Screw that. I played through all 3 and had a blast. The online leaderboards for the time trials is incredibly fun to compete with others and as a kid I never really went back and did the secret levels and got all the gems so I'm excited to do that. This is a great deal. If I had any complaint it would be the load times. They can get pretty rough. They really should release a patch for that or something. And some levels don't control the same like in the original, like the coco boat levels for example. This to me is an solid 8 out 10

This year? I doubt it. Especially with the current Switch situation, install base is too small for that.

It isn't true at all. Difficulty spikes were common back in the day and... yes they were always a negative and called out in reviews as such.

You don't need to 100% a game to give a good review of it, especially a game that faithfully copies a game you already played. Half of each is more than enough to judge the quality of the remastering, and the games themselves haven't changed.

Not saying I think this is a good review, and I certainly don't agree with the score, but difficulty spikes (for example) are not an unreasonable complaint.

Sure, but Mario releases this year on Switch. Although the install base is nowhere near PS4 levels, so you could be right.
Not sure how much of the install base has Crash nostalgia, but i'm sure it will be a lot.

Also, there are other platformers.

This game is gonna sit on the charts for a while..
it's funny how people see the Switch sales not slowing down the PS4, but screams Mario, like shit is going stop when that hits. It's Mario and he's gonna do him, which is sell a lot on Switch, that's it.

Crash, with the announced bundle, is going to do gangbusters! If reviews mattered that much then Ubisoft wouldn't own the world right now like they do.

They aren't exactly wrong. If you just clear the levels without wanting to do 100% runs, each game in the trilogy can be completed in 2-3 hours if you are good.

You replay levels to collect stuff, that's kind of a thing with platformers.

The game spot review apparently wasn't any good and stopped half way. I'm a little stunned that they'd state that in the review, it's essentially a preview with a score.

If you've had the hankering for platformers as of late, like I have, this set is an absolute no brainer. For $39.99 you get three of the best platformers ever made, and they're completely remade for the current gen… you can’t get a much better value than that.

it depends. In the US - maybe, but in Europe it will sell very well.

for example, Crash is #2 in the top best-selliing games for 2017 on Amazon UK

That Crash doesn't have enough content. The nature of multiplayer games is that you get as much out of them as the core gameplay allows. So it sounds like the reviewer thought the core gameplay of Arms was pretty darn good. I see no issue here.

Getting the review out to at the strategic time to get hits continues to be more important than the content of the review itself. Nothing shocking here, just disappointment.

Yeah, that's understood. Crash isn't close to top tier platforming imo. It's fine, I enjoy them, but nowhere near the best.
