"Jodie Whittaker was unveiled in a forest. Therefore her companion will be Forest Whitaker"
i'd watch
i'd watch
All of my female friends are not too pleased with this announcement. I really don't get it.
What have capaldi's seasons been like? I stopped watching after the first episode but that was a long time coming, not anything to do with him.
It's good that they've finally done this but not sure I can bring myself to go back to the show without an improvement in the writing

Until they do a POC I would say it isn't
There have been strong individual episodes, but it only recently felt like Capaldi was actually "established" as the Doctor, largely due to Clara being the center of the story for so long during his seasons. They've pulled back on season storylines about how the whole universe is going to die, which is nice.
Some great episodes off the top of my head are:
Season 8: Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, Dark Water
Season 9: Heven Sent
Season 10: Oxygen, Extremis, World Enough and Time

Capadli by himself was great , even both comanions , but the last season was uneven with some great episodes and some butchered by Moffats moffatnessWhat have capaldi's seasons been like? I stopped watching after the first episode but that was a long time coming, not anything to do with him.

That's the problem I have with the whole thing. Despite the regeneration there is a sense of continuity with the character that underlies each variation in personality. Some actors are better than others in recognising that, with Matt Smith being especially convincing in conveying the weight of history that the Doctor carries with him.
If those elements can be continued then I have no problem with it. But "shattering the mould"? No...
If it helps, she is being written by a huge, huge Doctor Who fan.

Well I'll I know is I will keep watching the show until/if it is canned. As Colin Baker once said, "I am the Doctor, whether you like it or not".
It's longer overdue, no question. I do have a feeling that the 14th Doc will be a male person of colour, but that's just me speculating.
Same. This might bring me back. I fell off during the smith era.
Because they can't swoon over the actor like they did with Tennant and Smith.

If you haven't, y'all should go watch Broadchurch. That show is amazing, she was great in it, and now we can say that show had 2 Doctors.
Does this mean men will be the primary fans of Who? I hope the companion is a girl. I would ship them so hard.
US or UK Broadchurch?
Heh, I'm kinda the same. I grew up renting VHS tapes of Dr Who and watching Star Wars on repeat so sci-fi is...kinda in my veins, a bit at least, at least the casting can be inferred to suggest the people behind the show know that their audience is diversifying so it needs to reflect that. Now the proof will be in the pudding/episodes, as to whether the whole thing will be good...but as long as they keep things interesting I'll watch even if its a bit shit
If they cast a Male POC as 14 I imagine the SaveOurDrWho people would be like "Guys. Are we meant to be angry now? I'm confused"

There is no US show called 'Broadchurch'. It was Gracepoint.US or UK Broadchurch?
Twitter would die
Wonderfull ideaBring back Barrowman for a female Doctor
PLEASE
Or maybe they just like the fantasy of a otherworldly guy sweeping them off their feet on an adventure? But sure sexism.internalised sexism is a thing
Amazing doctor, poor writing with some exceptionsWhat have capaldi's seasons been like? I stopped watching after the first episode but that was a long time coming, not anything to do with him.

The US one is called "Gracepoint" and is a pretty dull remake of the first season of the UK one. Watch the UK one. The first season (series) is excellent, the second not great, and the third excellent again.

I think Peter Capaldi already didn't fit that mold.Or maybe they just like the fantasy of a otherworldly guy sweeping them off their feet on an adventure? But sure sexism.
I feel sorry for you, Capaldi was amazingThis might bring me back. I fell off during the smith era.

He's the blondest actor they've had in the role but Peter Davison's father, Claude Moffet, was from a mixed race background from the West Indies. Davison talks about him in his autobiography and how he's the only one of his siblings who took after his mother.

I love the idea of Jack not even noticing The Doctor is a woman now. Why would he?This absolutely needs to happen, and I feel like Chibnall will put in the work to get that done more than Moffat would.
It's basically the diametric opposite of The Sonic Cycle
