Doctor Who Viewership is plummeting

Well, I watched the Christmas Special and WTF was that?
A fat lady turns into a star and sucks up her mother's soul.
That's like a recurring plot in multiple episodes, nothing new.

I'm serious the amount of times a woman has died in Who only for their spirit to join the cosmos has been around 5 or 6 times now since series 1 (2005).

It was a pretty odd ball episode.
Everyone being ok with being absorbed by the star was creepy.

Then, you have the whole thing with the Doctor being best friends with the hotel clerk for a whole year.

This isn't new either, was it Series 5 where he was friends and stayed with Craig for a year? The episode was OK, felt very mixed of Who tropes.

It is just a weird little tanget, but Doctor Who is known for those.

It is just the whole star thing kind of annoyed me.

I only caught the very end and it seemed like he was with the Star at Jesus's birth but people are talking about hotel clerks and soul sucking?

It's such a weird time to be alive. I used to love Star Trek, now I have been avoiding the latest one. I used to love The Doctor during the Tennant and Smith eras which was basically my first contact with the IP, but now I have zero interest for the IP. I used to love Star Wars, but Disney have done their darndest to make me lose interest there too. You could think that I have just grown out of them, but I still love watching the ones I loved back then and they still spark that same joy in me. I wish I could hibernate until those franchises get quality writers.
