What if the next Halo SP was more like CoD SP?

How about some of Halo 4 being like COD? I think there could be a great balance struck between the two styles. I love them both, but combined they could make on hell of an SP experience.

Reach was a mega letdown for me. "YOU AREN'T THE MASTER CHIEF ANYMORE!!!"
but only in the cutscenes

I don't know what you were expecting, but you were still going to play as a Spartan. It wasn't going to be that different.

I can't say I wasn't expecting the bait and switch, but they did kind of imply it would be a new Halo experience.

Not sure if I'd want it to be more like CoD, Halo needs to be Halo but the gameplay could use a huge rehaul for sure. I'm tired of the stupid fucking moon physics already.

I don't remember where Bungie was saying that it would be a new Halo experience, or where they implied it, but a new campaign can be considered a new experience...which is what we got. You can apply that "you're not the MC anymore" to ODST, but it doesn't really work with Reach. Bungie hardly played up that notion pre-release.

I'd rather play a game that has superior gameplay (a more balanced sandbox really) on a bad map than a game with a very unbalanced sandbox on a good map.
I never felt any major balance issues with either game. Plus H2 took away that awful AR, so points for that

First Halo game I've had balance issues is Reach, mainly due to the spawns.

That's what I was hoping to get out of Reach (foolishly I guess). I whole new set of mechanics in the Halo universe.

Instead I got ODST 1.5 with Tim Burton trees and nice skyboxes. Not saying it's a bad game, just not the game I wanted.

That's certainly debatable. By telling players they're not MC, the impression has to be that you no longer have super human abilities. This coming after ODST not living up to it's billing actually put more onus on Reach to go outside the Halo box.

IMO, or course.

I dont see Halo ever being a scripted experience like CoD. But id be willing to bet that the next evolution of Halo will be customizable in the multiplayer department, much like every other game nowadays. Hell, i be shocked if it wasn't a aim down your sites aiming system.

A large chuck of people that buy those games are multiplayer focused. So i could totally see them keeping the Halo singleplayer formula, but changing the multiplayer drastically.

So you knew you were going to be a Spartan, but you weren't expecting to have super human abilities...?

Halo 2 had a lot of balance issues. BXR, BXB, the sword not having a finite energy capacity, the BR trumpeting nearly all weapons in any area, the BR + plasma pistol combo...I could go on.

Sure, but the impression I've always had (never read any fan fic or Halo novels) is that MC was beyond a normal Spartan.

I like everything about the Halo universe but the gameplay is getting really stale. It's barely evolved since CE. I'd LOVE to see a new Halo game with an entirely new approach to how the game "feels". Because right now, for the most part, we're playing new levels with CE gameplay.

You can see some CoD inspiration in Reach. The cutscenes were reminiscent of MW and I like how you can just run past enemies to trigger the next part of the level/scripted event. :lol

Ghaleon do you have any reason to think that 343 won't be capable of keeping the franchise up to the high standard it has been?
Well, they're getting Bungie's Reach tech, so they'll have access to the tools. And a lot of the people at 343 - including the Franchise Director, Frank O'Connor - came from Bungie. So they understand and know what differentiates Halo from other shooters, from a gameplay standpoint.

I'm expecting a near-annual cadence to Halo titles down the road - I think the higher ups at MS eye the CoD model enviously - but I will be surprised if they abandon what made Halo, Halo.

I wasn't aware that Frank O'Connor was a part of the team. That is really good news. I hope the quality doesn't suffer if they go the COD route. They definitely aren't what you would call polished experiences.

I rarely encountered BX* users myself (or if I did they sucked at it). I won most close combat without using it either way. Sword users were never that hard to overcome for me. BR was a good weapon, but there were many times I won a battle against it with dual SMGs or something else. And the PP combo still remains in the newer titles. None of these things really bothered me. Only thing I didn't like was the cheating in the first few months.

CoD could learn a lot from Halo, not the other way around.

Look at how long Halo 3 took from booting the game to getting boots on the ground. With COD it's usually under a minute.

Halo needs more instant gratification.

Thats not... gameplay related.
