Still new at this - tips?
Regarding composition? I think most of us aren't professional photographers or have exceeding understanding of photography. There are basic tips, however:
- reduce the screenshot to what you really want to show (better in the beginning or later with cropping)
- avoid the center, pictures are less static this way. On the other hand use the center if you want 'static' and when it suits the motive (e.g. buildings)
- use the rule of thirds and/or golden ratio (don't overrate them, however)
- use 'lines' and other objects in your picture to 'lead' the eye towards or away the motive (you can rotate the camera to help with that), cf.

- lighting/shadows shouldn't 'swallow' details unless there's specific reason for it
- try out different moods with soft (big light source and scattered with less shadows) or hard light (small and direct light source with deep shadows)
- avoid to many lines in different directions, try for a bit of symmetry cf.

- rotate the camera to make the picture more dynamic
- use DoF to focus on your motive (this correlates with point 1, focus on your motive)
- fill the frame (see point 1)
- fill the frame with shallow DoF (DoF in front, motive in the middle, DoF in the back)
- don't fill the frame if your picture 'needs' the space, e.g. someone running towards something/someone (show where he/she is running to)

You can find many others via Google, too.
And the primary tip is: - try, try, try!
