Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster |DT2| oh dear...

I think he just made up some bs reasons for why some characters couldn't be included.

I agree. There is no way I can get behind "blade would be too much like dante". If we can make Jago and Shadow Jago feel radically different with the same model and very few new animations, they can easily make any brand new character feel as unique as the designers want.

Also the 'can't do 2-in-1 character' for cloak and dagger thing.. P Wright + Maya say hi.

Its all just off the cuff interview stuff imo. I wouldn't trust any of that as 'real' other than that they did consider those characters at some point.

Exactly. It always reads as complete horse shit to me.

Get some female representation in there you jerks. Enough with the dumb excuses.

The saddest thing (Which I made note of in that thread) was even that far back.
Regina wasn't included. It still baffles me how a multi-million selling series (Much like Breath of Fire) is just forgotten at capcom when it comes to VS. series. But even more obscure stuff can sneak in.

I'd say Tandy and Tyrone have the best shot ever with the Freeform series coming out.
If they don't screw it up

But "best shot ever", still isn't high, sadly

Damn Keits, how dare you bring logic into this and call them on their bullshit! Haha. You guys do some wonderful stuff with your characters, all I'm hearing from that Capcom interview is excuse after excuse.

The 150 females were being considered at one point comment is actually just borderline offensive lol.

I mean we're talking about the same joker that said Mega Man didn't have enough moves or whatever the fuck to be in MVC3.

I like Niitsuma and I certainly wish he and the rest of the old TVC/UMVC3 team were still here for MVCI, but man that guy's "reasonings" for not putting in characters were always batshit insane lol

Niitsuma is pretty cool and down to earth. I got to talk to him (through a translator) a number of times during TvC and MvC's cycles as a player and SRK's EIC. I think their team achieved some pretty remarkable stuff! I even have my copies of TvC and TvC:UAS (and a few MvC3 tshirts) signed by both him and Seth Killian.

That said, being in game dev myself, I'm pretty confident that the MvCi team is doing the best they can with the budget/time they have, and the mandates from publishing/licensing in front of them. We can question the weird roster and marketing and visual decisions, but its good to remember that we don't (and won't) know the real story, and I can assure you, they are working their hardest to give us something they hope we will love. Every dev I've ever met or worked with is doing the same.

That's why I'm excited to get my hands on the game. Despite the disappointment I've displayed throughout this thread, I'm still looking forward to playing this game a lot. It's just...well, hard to shake the feeling of thinking about what this game could've been and how the reception would've been more favorable with different decisions.

Whatever. I just need Sept. 19th to hurry up.

Can you say when we are getting a KI Steam release date? I got all hype and now I'm grumbly.

I don't know if MVCI would be much different if Niitsuma's team was still making it. Perhaps LMHS and 3v3 might have stayed (although that could have been out of MvCI's development team's control as well), I suppose and maybe a few more Capcom newcomers would have made it, but who knows.

LMHS and assists are probably the only things that would've stayed. Everything else seems to be either direct community feedback (no X-Factor) or an accessibility thing required by Marvel (including 2v2).

This is basically how I feel but people obsess over these statements and judge them in isolation and it will forever be that way.

Just look at how for MvC:I people are butthurt over them saying the roster will be "huge." A barely audible quote said jokingly and people are mad as fuck for some reason because it makes them feel betrayed.

I think more people are pissed about the whole, "we're not restricted to the MCU" nonsense. Rightfully so, too.

I hope no one actually thinks the devs aren't doing their best or working hard to make this game the best they can.

I mean, I'm disappointed as heck in the game presented so far, but I would never think that.

Yeah, I'm sure the MVC Infinite development team are working really hard under a rather strict deadline, (from how it looks). The problems with Marvel and Capcom both likely come from the top.

They have so many interesting IPs, it's sad that didn't try another "all-stars" and chose to go with Marvel.

Why is this game so ugly? Not enough time? Did Marvel force them to bring out game early than planned?

Not sure about the release date, but I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel had a hand in choosing the art style. Even in Telltale's Guardians game, it doesn't have the cel-shading usually found in their games.

As for Capcom All-Stars, as awesome as it would be, Capcom doesn't really have a lot of major franchises to push such a game to the average joe. All they have are Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, & Dead Rising as far as major IPs go. Ace Attorney is also up there, but it's more of a mid-tier franchise worldwide (though I think it's huge in Japan, much like MH).

It's a shame working with Marvel is a pain because honestly I do find the idea of "Marvel vs. Capcom" more appealing than simply just being a vanilla Capcom fighter, or a VS. game with Tatsunoko or Nintendo or SEGA or something.

I don't know, I guess it's because Marvel makes for a more interesting contrast against Capcom. Essentially, it's the west versus the east. American comic books versus Japanese video games. I find that more interesting than something like Nintendo vs. Capcom, which would just be "Japanese video games vs. other Japanese video games".

Dunno.

It's Capcom's history as a developer and creator of iconic game characters that gives MvC it's special cache, I think. If it had been DC Vs. Capcom from the very beginning I probably would like the series about as much as I do now, though there probably isn't another property I can imagine being as interesting matched against Capcom.

While I think the games are fun, I maintain that MvC is probably one of the stupidest crossover ideas to become real.

Same applies to Kingdom Hearts.

People really got mad over that? I thought it was too obviously vague to be taken seriously. My first initial thought on reading that comment was even, "compared to what? MVC2 or 3? Or the other 2v2 versus games?"

They have so many interesting IPs, it's sad that didn't try another "all-stars" and chose to go with Marvel.

I'm probably mis-remembering super hard, but I thought MVCI started off as a non-Marvel related fighting game?

Is they put Stan Lee and Ono in as characters to play, I would instantly like this title more an extra 25%. Instantly.

What moves would they have? How would they play? How awesome would it be?

Making Stan a character is WAY too self aware for my taste. Like, it isn't even funny or cool at that point, because after the initial marvel (hah) of the moment you realize that they wasted a slot on a joke, especially since the Capcom equivalent would be Ono and that'd be an Asura or whatever that's not in.

Imagine all of the Stan mains online. I'm sure he'd be a zoner that flings ink drawings from his pen and yells out Excelsior! The ink would take on the form of panels, speech bubbles, and "living ink" characters that attack not unlike Sai from Naruto.

--
Stan Lee as a playable character isn't worth it for me. It'd be a joke that'd be funny in the beginning, then you realize that he's actually part of the game and took away development time and budget.

i wouldn't mind stan as a character in the game years from now. It would be fun but first everyone from mvc 3 and more then him last.

Might be cool if he was just a big reference to Marvel in general and used random weapons and items from the universe.
I don't seriously care about it though, since it would never happen anyway.
