Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster |DT2| oh dear...

I'm implying that the fact that they said there will be a few years worth of dlc, if the game bombs horribly for example, we probably wont get a few years worth of dlc. All we know for a fact is that we'll get 1 season pass / 6 characters. Beyond that, who knows really.

And before you use SF5 low sales as an example, that game is their flagship esports capcom pro tour title. As far as we know, Marvel will get no such esports push, its just another fighting game.

And the "they say a lot of things" is because... well they do. Remember the "the roster will be huge!" comments? Because I do. Maybe they meant "the roster will be huge after a few years worth of dlc" :p

I'm not going to use SFV sales so you don't need to worry about it tho.

I definitely remember that quote and I think they were talking about the roster after they are done with the roster (after years of DLC). Also the way they spoke about their product made me felt that Marvel already have it in their mentality. The mentality where they would make Marvel Vs. Capcom as a service-a-game where they would sell (or dime) us the numbers of downloadable characters and costumes. I'm not sure about the stages but I will throw them in the list.

However I wouldn't pretend to know everything about behind the scene but I'm going to throw it out as probable. I do think they probably made some kind of contract that would lasted for next few years due to the fact they had a plan for MVCI being a service-a-game so they already know it's going to take a time due to their experiences with other products like Marvel Heroes and mobile games. I can't foresee them giving up on MVCI after Season 1 so I think we are going to get Season 2 because it's more likely that they are working on the contents for next year if they are done with all 6 DLC characters' models. We will see.

I do understand why there are quite heavily pessimism in this thread, and I do get it. They haven't really communicates with their product and it just seem that they want to stay in silent mode. It's not exactly helpful and it would just make themselves look worse. I'm going to get the game regardless mainly because the gameplay is pretty solid.

I thought they couldnt update UMvC3 because of licensing issues? Hence why they pushed out UMvC3 soo fast after vanilla MvC3.
The license was longer than UMvC3, but not by much. Niitsuma wanted the game to go a bit longer before UMvC3 (which came about due to the tsunami), and he wanted to add another 6 characters so the roster would officially pass MvC2. But then Capcom slated SFxT for the Spring. The suits were worried that UMvC3 and SFxT would cannibalize each others' sales, so UMvC3 was moved to the Fall date, which earned it hatred for having an update come out only 9 months after the original game.

TLDR: SFxT is the devil.

I would lean more towards your explanation.

although the other explanation is plausible too.

* But I'm here for MvCI. Granted, just not expecting it to bump my fighting games.

That's the 3rd thing on the list...

But the licensing thing doesn't hold full merit because like I said, they released MSH after UMVC3 so Capcom still had the license to update the game if they wanted to. But after the backlash they got from putting out UMVC3 so soon after with no potential upgrade, they decided to go with MSH re-release instead.

Still no word on FoX-Men DLC? need to see doctor doom
There's a damn good chance of the X-Men making it in as DLC. It's probably a matter of when at this point, rather than if.

Fantastic Four on the other hand, are a whole nother story which does make the inclusion of the Hidden Missiles function Dr Doom a bit difficult to predict.

All The Fantastic Four Characters Marvel Comics Restricted Licensing For – And A Few X-Men Too

In 2014, as part of a series of articles looking at Marvel Comics' plans to cancel the Fantastic Four comics and any licensing of the Fantastic Four, as part of a falling out Fox Studios, we ran a letter sent to Marvel "sketch card" artists, instructing them not to use any Fantastic Four characters.

All Marvel characters related to Fantastic Four are now off limits and will be immediately rejected by Marvel.
This includes but is not limited to:
 Mr. Fantastic
 Invisible Woman
 Thing
 Human Torch
 Doctor Doom
 Galactus
 Silver Surfer
 The Watcher
 Skrulls
 Etc.... any derivative. If in doubt, please draw something else.
......

But on the 3rd March 2016, that became more specified, listing all the characters that Marvel won't let you do sketch cards of. This means that these are the characters that Fox Studios can use for Fantastic Four movies, which are mostly those who first appeared in the Fantastic Four or Silver Surfer comics. With a couple of odd exceptions such as Brigadier Alasynde Stuart who Marvel may have revcently realised is based on a Doctor Who character.

Please note the following list of characters that may not be depicted on cards. Cards with the following characters likenesses will be immediately rejected by Marvel.

There is also an undated addendum for further characters off the board that some may see relate to the Fox movie X-Men: Apocalypse.

NEWLY ADDED: Apocalypse, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Rogue and Shuma-Gorath

That last one is a Robert E Howard character who may or may not have turned up in the Doctor Strange movie. There may some legally unstable issues with that as well. Movie likenesses are also verboten in a series of additional guidelines.

Jonathan Hickman Confirms Marvel Cancelled The FANTASTIC FOUR Comics Over Film Rights

Marvel has denied for the longest that they cancelled their long-running Fantastic Four comic series over a dispute with 20th Century Fox about film rights but Jonathan Hickman is saying otherwise.

..."I think it's pretty common knowledge at this point that Marvel isn't publishing Fantastic Four because of their disagreement with Fox. While it bums me out, I completely understand because, well, it isn't like they're not acting out of cause. Fox needs to do a better job there." said Hickman to Newsarama [via Bleeding Cool].

I wonder if they're saving the X-men, etc. for DLC just in case they lose the rights later on.

That way, if they suddenly lose to rights mid way through the MvCi era, they won't have to take the entire game of the market...just stop selling that particular DLC.

Looking at that list....Dang! No Willie Lumpkin!

In retrospect, I totally forgot Mephisto started out as a Silver Surfer villain, so he might be subject to the ban. He kind of has ties all over the place, but I guess they decided that it would be better to be safe than sorry about his status. That or they don't want to make cards with the devil on them or something.

The FF do have some really good villains outside of Doom that could have worked great in this type of game, so that's a shame. Awesome Android, Dragon Man, Infant Terrible, Molecule Man, Diablo, and Kang in general.

One thing that puzzles me there is that the Maggia are on the list.

Mephisto's rights were brought back to Marvel with Ghost Rider & is implied to be in the MCU via Agents of SHIELD.

Also, Apocalypse is being added to Future Fight, so there's that.

The X-Men were banned when the contact was signed and the roster was created. It didn't lift until two months before announcement (too late for launch).

Along with what Neoxon said,
Kang is also the main villain of Lego Marvel 2 and the skrulls are confirmed for CapMarvel. Either the trading card restrictions are not the same as other media's restrictions or that isn't correct anymore

Marvel games has been moving away from those restrictions recently... Kinda. The recent re -upping of Marvel Heroes' contract that didn't remove the X-Men, means that... however it did remove Fantastic Four related characters. So...

Chances of Mysterio making it in? (as DLC down the road, naturally)

You guys remember the mvc3 characters that almost make the cut? i remember niitsuma talking about Silver Surfer, i think Cyclops, and Doc Ock?

Fate of Two Worlds or Ultimate?

MVC3FTW was Doctor Octopus and Frank West, from the disc data. Not sure about others for that one specifically.

Niitsuma talked about a ton of characters that might have made it into Ultimate. Can't remember them all.

But Firebrand reps Demon Quest!

AntiVenom: Someone found something a few years ago in the HVH data that might have either been a bug with the character, or that he was planned to be a character at one point.
Gambit: "Gambit isn't being ignored for UMvC3, but he's not in the game."
I may have just wanted to post that line

If you consider disconfirmation as being considered then

Vergil: When we gathered data from our fans in Japan, he was way more requested than we ever expected. The decider for us was when we were at Tokyo Game Show, and we have several Vergil cosplayers come up to us and say "Put Vergil in, please!"
Guess those few Vergil cosplayers secured Vergil's place in UMvC3. Guess I need to go to Capcom events dressed as Gene...

I don't understand how gene overlaps with frank.
Damn that's stupid reasoning lol... That are not even close to similar. Nitsuma's reasoning seems fucked....

I still want to have hope for Gene eventually but sadly I feel like Capcom doesn't care about him as a character at all...either way I hope I'm wrong and he's eventually DLC.

I mean if Firebrand and Spencer can make it in despite no one asking for them.
Anyone has a chance.

"Also, no matter how hard we tried, we just couldn't come to any agreements regarding female characters, so we ended up having no new girls in the roster..."

Maybe that's why the amount of women is so small this time too. LOL

Salty as fuck waifu wars is all i'm imagining at Capcom HQ.
"If my waifu isn't going to be in the game, yours sure as hell isn't!"

How would Rouge have conflicted with the age rating? MvC3 and the Power Stone games are rated T. What were their ratings in Japan? Rouge is never fully naked, not even in Power Change form. Shit, Felicia's in the game and you can't get more naked than she can.

With better graphics I could see her Power Change being a problem. ESRB was a bit easier to get around when it came to risque outfits back in the day compared to now. Like the DOA games are basically rated M for nothing more than the outits. Felecia I think is just a case of sneaking past. Like if you're not thinking about it it doesn't really stick out. That and there are no boob tassels.

Regardless i do think it's a whack reason. They easily could've just redesigned her Power Change and called it a day.
