Microsoft needs more exclusives throughout the year

Yep I hope they've taken the hard lesson from this. There not the only ones who do this. But there the ones who've been burnt most by delays on their biggest games.

But unlike Sony they don't have exclusives or third party defacto exclusives game out to sate their fanbase.

Let me get this straight: Zelda, Mario 8, and Splatoon don't count because reasons, so Microsoft's first-party output for 2017 is far better than Nintendo's.

I'm saying both MS and NCL In-House line up for the remainder of this year and early into next is rubbish (in terms of numbers) . How many In-House games are we going to get from either NCL or MS over the next year? The answer for both, is not many.

It's not trolling its the simple truth and fact of the matter!

This is only true if you:

(i) Arbitrarily ignore a number of Switch exclusives launched already to rave reviews because of "reasons"—also why are you using the word "port" as a pejorative? It's bizarre.

(ii) Ignore obvious upcoming switch releases, e.g. Mario Odyssey, that are almost guaranteed to be critical darlings and sell a bucket ton.

MS' 2017 first party output is incomparable to Nintendo's. I'm not sure how any sane person can argue otherwise. On one side you have a platform with very few exclusive games that both have niche appeal and aren't likely to set alight the sales charts or either haven't or are unlikely to score all that great critically. On the other side you have a platform surging in popularity with a handful of exclusive games that all seem to release to rave reviews and boast solid if excellent sales (with record sales attach-rates).

I would argue that both are lacking in comparison to Sony which has both quantity, quality and diversity in it's exclusive line-up to appeal to a significantly broader cross-section of gamers. At the same time though, I think you'd struggle to find anyone who doesn't agree that Nintendo is delivering the goods in terms of exclusives for Switch, whilst MS is floundering in the water.

What you're suggesting is a bit of false equivalency.

Matt and Shinobi on here both said that there weren't any more investments being made in first party, and that while the games that come out will be replaced with new announcements, we shouldn't expect more first party games than we've been getting, in the future.

And even without believing that, I really don't know where those games would be coming from.

Also, console manufacturers are the ones who SHOULD be announcing games early, to give us reasons to invest into a platform, give us a look ahead at what's coming later. It's important to give consumers confidence in the future of a platform.
 
Watching a Matterfall video made me realize that I think my biggest complaint in regards to Microsoft first party output is the lack of bite size indie games.
Press Play made some cool games but they aren't around any more.

I'd love to see some small studios pop up with the goal of pushing out a small $20 game every other year. Granted I'd also like to see more first party output with the bigger titles too but overall but if you get 1-2 a year with small indie games peppered in I'd be much happier.

Well he said they signed some things, but its too early to show them. I doubt that he is lying but I believe it when I see it.

Sure Xbox could use a few more exclusives but do people really care that much when they're playing a game if it's exclusive or not? I don't think so. Games are games are games.

Exclusives are what sells systems. Third party games matter once you have the system but to buy in to a system having a good stable of exclusives are huge.

When you have the system it doesn't matter, but when you decide to purchase a system it does matter. I have a Xbox One and I will not purchase another Xbox ever again unless they show they are committed to making exclusive games again. Because I could buy other systems get the exclusives and the cross platform games.
 
Did someone really say Splatoon 2 is a port? Still, even now, when the game has been out for a while and anyone with a functioning pair of eyes can see it's a sequel plain and simple?

And than Xenoblade 2 is a port? What?

And that ARMS apparently doesn't exist?

And then has the audacity to say they're not trolling?

But what tier of content is it? They came on stage at E3 this year and said they had 20+ exclusives to show. They didn't lie. However, they weren't big or fairly big announcements. They ended up being timed exclusives indies.

That wasn't necessarily bad, per say, but if some are expecting for them to have big AAA stuff saved up, they might end up disappointed. We'll see though.

To make out that Spatton isn't any more than Splatoon 1.5 is really stretching it . What is next, Gears Ultimate edition a sequel? I haven't looked over Arms at all, but you seem to overlook a number of titles out for the XBox One or the rather poor 3rd party support for the Switch; Is it getting Density 2, Wolfenstein 2,Assassin's Creed Origin, did it get Resident Evil 7, Ghost Recon, Titanfall 2, Overwatch and countless other 3rd titles NOPE. Yet again like with the Wii U have to buy another a rival console or get a nice PC to play the latest 3rd party games if you're a Nintendo owner ... Its so bad we even had a dictated thread for SWITCH Neo Geo games, like those exact same games don't also come out for the PSN or XBox LIVE

If there's one platform that's lacking for support and number of In-House titles it's clearly the SWITCH.

Splatoon 2 is in no way a port whatsoever.
 
This entire thing makes me seriously question who's idea it was as MS to not only cancel the last Fable game (which was damn near completely developed) and then to shut down lionhead.

I mean seriously, the Fable series was one of the few Xbox exclusives they had and they were fairly big sellers as well (3rd IIRC, right behind Halo/Gears of War).

They canned it all and they now have ZERO exclusive "rpg" games or series.

It's almost like they purposely want to watch the game division crash and burn.

I have an xbox one I haven't turned on in like half a year or more. My PS4 I play regularly on with HZD and about to delve into Uncharted: Lost Legacy in a few days.

When one box consistently gets less games (which are less games and are less games), there's not much reason for people to buy said box when a different box gets to play 95% of the first box's library PLUS a bunch more games (which are more games and are more games).

I love the XB1 but man, I really wonder what the hell MS is doing. The only Xbox exclusives I care about are Halo and Ori. Halo is my favorite series ever though, and Halo 5 has my favorite PvP in the series, so it's a big deal to me.

I'd love to see more of the Japanese games that are PS4 exclusive, but I know that's unlikely. :(

If it doesn't get meaningful third party support? Probably. Maybe not Wii-U doomed, but its success will be limited.

The Xbox is being pretty soundly outsold at this point. At the start, price was likely the biggest factor. At this point, it comes down to brand perception and library.

But still, announcing games many years in advance can be more negative than positive. There are exceptions, but usually I'd prefer a later announcement with scheduled release within two years. Of course they should show they're invested in the platform, but the planning for that should start years before the console launches so that there's a steady flow of announcements and releases from the start.

I for example, I'm not buying an xone until MS starts pumping games and invest in new syudios and IPs. If this does not cut it for you, check the NPD thread, Matt from NPD clearly stated that exclusives do matter.

It's a port with a few splatted on extras. Sure it's a great game and its fab and fun to play, but it is not a true fleshed out developed sequel. But let's leave that aside.

It's the Wii U all over again, if you want to play AAA 3rd party titles and Nintendo is your main or only current system, you have to buy rival consoles (like you can't also buy a PS4 if you have a One) or game on the PC. If you game on the PC, Microsoft is making money off you, be that through Windows, Direct X royalties... which nearly every PC game and GPU graphics card vendor needs to pay to MS.

For example: if Xbox would get Bloodborne 2 (I know Sony owns it, but that type of caliber game) exclusive, not only him but about a million others Would get an Xbox one too. It's really not that hard to grasp or believe. Sales spikes when exclusives are release add up, and then start being the reason to go with one platform over the other. People keep making excuses for MS or whatever but can't come up with a reason the Xbox isn't doing so well..

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a port with a few extras (mainly new battle mode tracks).
Splattoon 2 is a new game in the same vein of Call of Duty where no major changes were made, it's not a port.

Nintendo has already released several major titles for the Switch this year and has a number of big titles in the works, both from Nintendo developers and development partners. While the Switch third party lineup is pretty awful the first party situation isn't close to the same as Microsoft, they have way more in the pipeline than Microsoft does.

Hardly... Each COD game as an entirely new world, new characters, and a new story and all new Maps. That's not what we got with Splatoon II.

But back to the main point. What In-House games are coming from NCL over the next year till Aug 2019? Its Mario and that's about it, no better than Microsoft. Both NCL and MS suck in that dept and SONY is way out in front.

At least the Xbox One can count on wide spread 3rd party support, not so for NCL. Hit back with insults call me names Even with the data and number of 3rd party titles planned for each system this year, are there for us all to see.

Splatoon 2 has new maps, weapons, new single player levels and a new mode. Some of the characters and weapons and maps are returning but back when I played Call of Duty there was plenty of content that was carried over between games, especially the numbered sequels.

Just since launch in March Nintendo has published Breath of the Wild, 1, 2 Switch, Arms, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Nintendo has announced they're publishing Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronices 2, Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem Warriors, Yoshi, Kirby, Pokken Tournament DX, Metroid Prime 4 and mainline Pokemon for the Switch. Ubisoft is releasing Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which of course will always be a Switch exclusive and likely had a lot of input from Nintendo.

We also don't have any idea what Retro is doing and it wouldn't be surprising if Nintendo is working with some of their third party partners like Next Level Games and Monster Games on unannounced Switch games.

I'm not saying the third party situation is great on the Switch because it's certainly not. The Xbox One pretty easily beats it for third party games, both with new releases and the back catalog. There's a huge difference in upcoming first party software and software the two companies are funding/publishing. Maybe Microsoft has a lot of unannounced games in development but we're not seeing the signs of that, everything they're doing seems to be indicating they're pulling back from game development and publishing in a pretty major way.

Bloodborne 2 isn't selling 1 million consoles period let alone Xbox's

Bloodborne 1 sold 2 million in 7 months, you really think 50% of 7 months worth of sales is going to rush out to buy a console for one game?
 
If we're comparing Microsoft to Nintendo, it's basically Microsoft's third party support against Nintendo's first party support.

Overall, far more games come to the Microsoft platform. It's no contest.

Now, that doesn't help against Sony who gets almost every game on Xbox PLUS their own first party.

I like that you conveniently ignore Nintendo's output leading into the fall/winter, because Microsoft only released one game. Just focus on the holiday releases to make the system you're clearly biased towards, look like it's on par with Nintendo.

My man, the Switch has been out 5 months. How do you expect us to know what the system has coming in the next two calendar years? Even then, it's almost a guarantee that Nintendo will be releasing more first party software than Microsoft.

You don't seem to be understanding the context of the situation. The 3rd/4th year of a console's life cycle is generally considered it's peak, when it should be hitting its stride both in terms of sales and first party software output. The concern people have is that that isn't the case for Xbox One, in fact, we're seeing a regression from the first two years of the generation. Your arguments against the Switch would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that the console hasn't even been on the market for half a year, and even then, Nintendo have released a steady amount of first party software in those 5 months, more than Microsoft Studios has in the past 8 months, regardless of what your arbitrary criteria for what counts or what doesn't is.

It's not doom and gloom for Xbox at all, but understand why people are concerned and frustrated with the software situation of the console instead of moving goalposts.
