Secret of Mana Remake (PC/Vita/PS4, February 15th, 2018) Trailer

Cool news. It looks good in the trailer, but I need to see more. Releasing a Vita version is awesome, definitely going to pick that up if it runs smoothly.

This looks surprisingly good to me, especially after things like the FFV and FFVI remakes. I don't know what kind of expectations of standards people who are disappointed have, but I don't think they will be ever met by current era Square's remakes.

The original game was extremely vibrant and full of color and life. These bland, low-poly visuals don't really capture the spirit of the original or look good on their own merits. I mean... there's more detail and realism in the original SNES version:

Look at the care put into the shading on that pixel art to make the architecture look rounded and deep, now look at how flat and plain the actual 3D version looks in comparison. Details like the keystones in the arches are also missing, and the way those bricks awkwardly wrap along that bottom corner is pretty lazy. It just looks cheap as hell and doesn't do justice to the quality of the original art.

The original game is honestly pretty rough in some spots. I'd like to think this is an opportunity to restore the planned CD content and realize all the original potential. If they pull that off, it'll be a far better game, no matter how bad it looks.

Nailed it but I still get it, Secret of Mana is one of my favorite RPG of all time but I agree 100% with you.

One of the best action RPG's of all time and they've decided to use those horrible low poly graphics...
Why not just essentially do the game in beautiful hi-res 2D art?

Irks me a bit that the original game that came out on a Nintendo console the remake isn't coming to Switch. But I'm happy that PS and PC owners can enjoy the remake

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
2018 2 15 is the date for US PSN or JP?

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! IS THIS REALLY GOING TO COME OUT? I'M NOT DREAMING AM I? HOLY...

When I heard the music in the trailer I teared up, Secret of Mana is my favorite game of all time, I must have completed it around 20 times now if not more, I wrote a 60 page work on the whole Seiken Densetsu series in middle-school, I even imported Legend of Mana for that and played it in black and white on my old PAL CRT and no other Mana game ever could come close to Secret of Mana for me... yeah I know it's just a asset reuse remake and I always dreamed of a HD 2D hand-drawn remake but at this point after so many years, thank you for this Square-Enix, if I have the disposable money by February I'll likely triple-dip, I still can't believe it... wow :)

(no switch :( )

As weird as it sounds I forgot about the Switch when I read the title. Seemed strange to do a Vita version and not a Switch version but then again Square has been avoiding Switch for some reason. I'll probably pick up the Vita version but the colors do look a little "faded". I honestly thought this was a mobile port like someone else said in an earlier post.

I'm in because of the Vita edition, perfect game to kill some time during commuting. Looks good for a Vita game, PS4, well, not so much.

This looks similar to the AoE remake, yes, but the level of detail is much higher and lets the art direction shine. I think it looks great!

I'm going to buy this because I'm a fiend for this series, but this reeks of the same budget, low-effort feeling that was in the FFA remake. There's really so much more they could be doing with these remakes.

Avoiding Switch? Like 9 games so far from their list of announced or released games right?

Another thread derail discussing lack of a switch release. Not surprised.

The SNES original was dope back in the day.. we used both video outs to run two different tvs and played co-op through the whole game...just because. Great memories.

I am not sure how this will hold up to nostalgia so I am not buying it. Hopefully, it does well though with a new audience. Totally worth it if you have never played. Great co-op experience.

They literally just announced a Dragon Quest Builders sequel on Switch not three weeks ago.

Never played this. Any good? The original that is.

I was a little disappointed when I played and finished it 3 years ago even if it was a game of my childhood. It's really badly balanced and the story wasn't that great.

But for the balancing at least, i don't think that's something they can't correct with a remake.

If Square won't release collection here, I'll settle with this one even though I would have preferred a 3D remake of Seiken Densetsu 3.

Yup, right there with you. Just how I felt about the mobile version of FF VI too.

If I hadn't grabbed a SNES classic preorder I might get it anyway, just to replay on big screen, but I'll stick with the old school game instead.

I saw the price and immediately stopped caring.

I'd much rather have the Secret of Mana collection they also announced, but that has as much of a chance as a localised SaGa Scarlet Grace.

I don't think that's the SNES version. It looks like the Android version:

The architecture in the thumbnail matches that Android version. The original SNES is the most coherent and pleasing one to look at in any case.

You guys should remove the rose tinted glasses.

Judging from these particular screens the snes version looks extremely flat(some architectural elements aren't easy to decipher) and dark, the 2d android version looks more vibrant, with more depth and closer to a 32 bit game and the new version looks flat because of the lack of shadows and darker tones, if they didn't do such mistakes it would have looked way better.

Judging from these screens the 2d android version is clearly the best one graphically.

That said this new version looks exactly what it is, a cheap looking mobile game, square could have easily improved the graphics on all platforms(vita included).

This looks gross. Was hoping for a 2D remake. The original already looks nice so dont see the point remaking it in half baked 3D.

I think Seiken Densetsu 3 will be next after this.

And hopefully it does come (despite most likely being a 3D remake) because if it does happen, we can officially play SD3 in English. :)

Nah, we'll probably get a Secret of Evermore remake instead in NA for historical consistency :p.
