North Korea launches missile that passes over Japan

This is scary and a serious escalations of aggression. Wow.

I don't know if it's an act of war or not but just imagine a missle flying over the US and what kind of response that would generate from our military....

Did this thing pass over any US bases?

We have no good options with North Korea. That's a fact.

Now you are just confusing me. Where is talk of options coming from? I was replying about NK upping the stakes!?

Bottom line is the NK regime are pushing their luck and I think after all these years they should now face consequences. Maybe destroy a few of their military bases or something?

3 stage missile suggests a possible ICBM launch. They may have been testing a new missile that was pictured a few days ago. Could be an attempt to work out the missiles range by firing it at a low altitude. Seems like it could be a failure though. 1st stage might have worked but seperation to second stage failed and missile broke up.

Uh... wars have started over less.

And please don't patronise people and start spouting "clever" posts like you're in an Aaron Sorkin show. You're posting on a video game forum.

Oh fucking please. This isn't WWll. If it had landed and hurt people then you have a point but this is fucking the same as usual.

If I was in Seoul I'd be leaving right fucking now.

If you were in Seoul you'd probably not even raise an eyebrow because NK pulls crazy shit all the time.

If you all think this is crazy, they literally sunk a SK submarine and killed 46 people in 2010, which led to shelling from both sides. That was when SK had a hard-line leader too. Guess what happened? Nothing.

There has to be military strikes against North Korean launchers.

You can't just let a madman fire off rockets in the "general direction" of populated countries.

Preemptive/First Strike threshold has already been passed to be honest. Any response now would be considered reactionary and defensive in nature.

Yeah, I thought we had 24/7 news. Now they split it into segments on all stations. This is pretty crap and pointless TV.

Thats because they can only report on what is being told. if it's one liners they have nothing else to report..

I thought Japan said it was prepared to destroy any missiles that flew over its air space when North Korea threatened Guam?

Who is to say that it wasnt intercepted and that was the reason it broke into three pieces?

We need to know more - and we'll find out once more information is released.

So, let them bomb us and then a million+ die? Either way, there's going to be a lot of death at some point in the future.

It makes no sense for North Korea to attack. He wants to keep his kingdom just the way it is and keeping the situation in this state is how he does that. He can't survive a war with the rest of the world. The threat of innocents dying is all that keeps him alive and in power. The instant he kills people he's finished.

This. US would be going crazy if a missile came within a couple thousand miles. Yet here they are telling people getting warns from their government to take shelter, to 'calm their tits'.

Yeah. I feel like people telling someone who just had a missile fired over their country with reports from reputable news organization that the missile is heading toward "Northern Japan" have reason to not be calm.

So you're cool with like 1,000,000+ (in a best case scenario) SK people and maybe 5,000,000 NK people dying?

Firing an ICBM over the US, Russia, or China would be instant nuclear armageddon. Hell, dropping one in the EEZ of one of those countries would probably be enough.

This is well beyond dick-waving.

Are you cool with potentially millions of Japanese dying?

The Japanese are well within their rights to make their own decisions at this point.

You're condemning thousands of people in SK with this attitude.

Do you really think he has no intentions of attacking in the future? I do.

Not a viable option. That's what I'm saying. We can't physically attack them without tons of innocent people being killed.

Everything NK does will get hand-waved away.

They'll have to literally nuke tokyo and then people will still be like "let's calm down, this is just some dick waving"

Sure. Totally no difference between actually killing people vs aiming missiles over a country, AGAIN. Tell me how quickly we went to war after North Korea literally killed South Korean marines and civilians with artillery? In the same year NK torpedoed a ship and killed 46 South Korean sailors.

Fucking take the time to understand the circumstances surrounding the NK issue and you'll realize why escalation on this issue is a lot different than most others. Even with Trump added to the mix.

It's like you guys are rooting for war or something.

He is flying very close to the sun though.

A missile may hit land by "accident" or human error.

Yeah no that kills too many people who live next to them.

"wars have started over less"

Yet North Korea has done worse before and here we are.

The thing is, you usually go to war when you feel confident about your chances of winning. Such notion is thoroughly incompatible with going to war against a nuclear power. Which again, explains how we got here.
