Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Maining Arcstrider. But even though I expect to not need to make any progression guides this time around, one guide I really want to make is one that highlights the playstyle each subclass spec excels at. So I'll be spending time with all of them.

Because the perks are grouped into locked specs, there are effectively 2 "subsubclasses" per subclass. On paper it looks like there are fewer perk choices than in D1, but because they were designed around being used together, there is more synergy in each than all but a few total perk combos in Destiny. And some of them are definitely major stuff that didn't exist in any form in D1.

This is going to sound weird but I've never used discord before and I'm not sure how to join DGAF? I've downloaded the app on my phone and I have the quoted address from the OT, what happens nect? Cheers.

Me and the SO didn't play D1, because we both suck at console shooters. But with D2 being on PC, we're interested. Google tells me this franchise has some things in common with Borderlands, which we both loved. The setting and story obviously are way different, but how much like Borderlands is the core gameplay?

I'm not one to get caught up on reviews, but I'm expecting fairly high scores for D2, like consistent 9.0+'s. Anyone else sharing this sentiment?

Bumper jumper control scheme. It's the best way to play destiny.

unless you have an elite, or any other controller that allows you to do stuff without removing your thumbs from the sticks. A+

Click that link. If you don't have access to a computer at all I suppose you could email it to yourself?
Forgive my ignorance, but what the heck is Jumper my dude?
Control scheme that moves jump to L1, effectively allowing simultaneously jumping and aiming.

Forgive me if I'M being dense, but what exactly constitutes a "zone" in your eyes?

Each of the explorable areas are huge, contiguous spaces that you can traverse without loading screens. Something I am quite glad for. But I'm not sure where the distinction begins for you.

I played Guild Wars 2 mostly. Not sure if you've played. But a zone in that game is typically what I expect when I mean zone and is typically what you see in other MMO's depending on if they have a 'continuous' streaming in of a zone or a loading screen. WoW for example has a continuous streaming in of a zone whereas GW2 uses loading screens between zones.

In GW2 there are just over 30 zones. I don't know how many WoW has at this point. So only having 4 zones seems really content light to me.

Voidwalker has some realllllllly cool stuff. The first tree allows you to literally super-charge your grenades, and the second one lets you enter a Devour state where you gain health on kills.

Hmm, yea I guess I'll start with some tracking Nova Bombs.

Hehe, I have. The games have almost literally nothing in common :P And it is very important to remember that destiny's not actually an MMO - the most players that will ever occupy an instance simultaneously is 16.

Explorable areas in Destiny don't play quite the same role as they do in GW2 at all, so it's a tough comparison to make. And in terms of overall X,Y,Z space GW2 will ALWAYS have more but a country mile.

In terms of analogy as to the role they play in the game world though, the Destiny "zones" are more like regions in GW2 (I.e. Kryta), in terms of function and design, but smaller in terms of actual space for sure.

Really curious about the Gunslinger other tree.

Crowd-pleaser
Precision hits with your Golden Gun generate Orbs of Light for your allies.
Line ‘Em Up
Precision hits with Golden Gun increase its damage and extend its duration
.

Think overall the Gunslinger is gonna be way more dps class then before.

According to Luke, this skill tree can net up to 8 orbs of light to completely fill your allies' supers. Sounds pretty awesome for support in Raids.

Jup. Depends how big the orbs are tho. Nighstalker also drops crazy orbs but they are small ones.

Extremely skeptical after the mess that was destiny 1 at launch. Does anyone think the servers will even be available on tuesday?

Reviewers aren't in the game early either. Too hard to tell if it will just be 5 hours of missions that they have you repeat for 100 hours again.

We already know the campaign is much larger, and there's a lot more PvE content that D1 in the patrols alone. Though I don't think we ever got a final strike count.

D1 had a flawless launch. Only the ROI expansion had problems.

That count has leaked. Actually most of the game has leaked though we have a spoiler thread for that discussion.

Lol at the post right above me

It's already been confirmed that this is not the case. Most people are saying 30-50 hours of game progression.

Okay, ya'll. Time to get some REAL discussion going here. I want to know the following for everyone:
  • The class you're going to main and why.
  • The subclasses you're going to main and why.
I'm going Hunter because I feel it's the most versatile. By that I mean, I feel it's the most agile, and I think the best example I can give to support that statement is the movement for the two other classes. Warlocks are awkward with their floaty jumps (this may have changed for D2; didn't play the beta), and Titans are too damned heavy.

I can't decide which subclass will get the most use from me, but I think it'll either be (or split between) Gunslinger and Nighstalker. Gunslinger always made me feel like a badass especially because of that awesome knife, and Nightstalker seems like it'll be a great support/suppressor class.

Titan for sure. I'll make all 3 classes eventually, but Titan is where I'll spend the majority of my time.

As far as sub-classes, just like D1 from Year 1 to now, Striker when it comes to PvP. I'll give them all a shot but I can't get enough of the multiple Fists of Havoc, the new Seismic Strike, double grenades, health regen, and lots of perks to augment punching.

For PvE, the Sentinel looks to be an invaluable option to bring with so many options on how to help the team. Despite the fact that WoL and BoL have been offloaded to the Warlock Rift (a good idea), a safe haven in the form of a larger Armor of Light bubble can't be discounted. Also having the option this time around to just shield bash fools like crazy is also very exciting. I am not too sure when the Shield Block option will be useful during the super -- I didn't get a chance to test it much in the beta.

Oh, and this doesn't even include the new Barricade walls which are going to be incredible both for PvP and PvE. The Rally Barricade is useful for taking cover and instantly reloading weapons, but in the beta Strike whenever I used it I often just got focused. I have a feeling I'll be using the Towering Barricade more to just shut down incoming damage completely as well as damage anything that steps through.

Discord keep given me the message "instant invite has expired or is invalid".

Any clues as to what I maybe doing wrong?

Started with a Hunter in Destiny, will be starting with a Titan in Destiny 2. No idea how much I'll be investing into the PS4 version as I will be transitioning over to PC in October.

Speaking of barricade walls, did it do more damage in the PC beta than in the console beta when walking through one? I felt it did a TON of damage on PC, don't know if that was discussed or not.

I haven't really been keeping up. I'm guessing this'll be another one of those situations where reviewers won't be able to give all-encompassing impressions before or on the release date?
