Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

I should totally take wednesday off, right?

Is that what a rational adult would do? Lol

Hunter class will be my main with Gunslinger and Nightstalker getting the most play-time.

I just prefer the mobility of the class especially with what I consider the truest/most reliable jumping ability (especially with the Xbox Elite Controller - sprint and jump on paddles with Bones of Eao = Sublime).

I hope the Gunslinger (my go-to for PvP) really got some love pertaining to PvE but if not the Nightstalker subclass is in my back pocket.

The other classes will get some love too but considering I already have purchased the game on Battle.net as well I haven't yet fully decided how I'm going to go about character creation/progression on each platform.

Wait, they announced Nighstalker?

Hope this turns out well as I wait 2 months for PC version. Craving me an fps loot shooter since Hellgate London fucked up on PC.

How imperative is it to have a mic for raids and what-not? I don't have a PS4 mic, so I didn't know if you D1 vets used discord or anything while playing? Still torn between whether or not I wanna double-dip.

Don't even think about raiding if you can't communicate with your fireteam. :p

For strikes & crucible, not required at all. For raids, you should really try to get a mic. They’re cheap, and you might even be able to use a pair of phone headphones.

If you don’t want to talk on a mic, that’s fine. The leader of Team SEXY, has never spoken on mic for 3 years & she has some of the most time in the game & raiding out of any of us.

You might have a harder time trying to find a party & you probably will have better luck making some friends first than crashing someone else. But it’s not impossible. We’ve raided with players who are deaf before.

I've taken Friday off, as much as it sucks only playing the evenings for a couple of days on release you avoid any launch issues with servers and give yourself a three day weekend to fall into. I hate booking release day off midweek and then having the feeling of past that night being it and going back to work. Makes it worse when you're working having tasted what you're missing imo.

Also great post on the discord stuff by hawkian:

Discord Announcements

Hey all, just some stuff here about the DGAF Discord to keep in mind in advance of the actual launch. For anyone who doesn't know, Discord is essentially a community chatroom with a bunch of different channels, from fully off-topic stuff to LFG to spoiler territory. It also has voice chat capabilities, which will be extremely handy when the PC version rolls around.

If you would like to join the Discord, there is a link in the OT you can quote to see. Feel free to come check it out!

Notes:

1) While DGAF, as a community offshoot of NeoGAF, doesn't and cannot moderate this thread, the Discord is totally operated by a few of us and is (lightly) moderated by DGAF member mods. There are simple rules which you'll see upon first joining (which are totally non-controversial in my opinion) and of the basic "don't be a dick" nature. Still, especially with a potentially large influx of new/first-time players joining us, please make sure to read them.

2) When you first join you will be directed to the #role-management channel and asked to set a role (XBOX, PS4, PC, or No_LFG_Notifications). These roles enable you to receive notifications from anyone who uses @ that role. This is useful in the #lfg channel to form an immediate fireteam. This is the PRIMARY function of these roles and these notifications cannot be suppressed in any way. If you want to receive all LFG message notifications for your platform, then you're good. If not, what you should do is go back to #role_management and have your role removed and set the No_LFG_Notifications role. You can still access and view the #lfg channel when you need a group.

Volume at launch is going to be extremely high. We are trying to avoid people being inundated with notification spam without realizing why when the game comes out. Personally I'm going to just mute my phone, and see how it goes, but I definitely know some of you will prefer not to get the spam. After things die down you can always ask to have the role added again if you want.

3) Regarding spoilers: there is a spoiler channel called #d2_spoiler_zone within which you can talk about anything you want without fear. Outside of that channel, please use your best judgment. At least with regard to the story and raid spoilers specifically, let's see if we can make it a week for the Campaign and two weeks for the Raid before we discuss that stuff openly because not everyone will be playing the game at the same pace or starting right at launch, but they still want to be able to come to the community for help or to find groups. Similarly, please use spoiler tags in the OT. A good rule: if you have to wonder whether or not something might be considered a spoiler, just tag/spoiler channel it. :P

4) Finally, a note on the role of Discord and the title of this thread: Discord is used for a high-intensity chatroom, a way to stay connected to DGAF whenever you want (Discord has a full-featured mobile app), a way to find people who are also online at the exact moment you are looking for a group, and memes (whether you wanted them or not. /zavala).

It is not DGAF itself. People who choose not to use the Discord are no less a part of this community, and people who do use it are not a special subset of this community with greater privileges. We are one community and DGAF exists in the connections made between the Guardians reading this, shooting aliens and helping one another; it is not any one platform of communication. For my part, I'll be spending most of my time in the early phases of D2 in this thread.

Concerns have been raised, both tongue-in-cheek and serious, about exclusivity and cliques within the community. I have no patience for any of that. The thing is that we are a gigantic community. Not everyone is gonna get along 100% of the time. And it's worth keeping in mind that what may be easily mistaken for a clique might very well be actual friendship- some of us have known each other for literally 3 years or more now and become quite close. But everyone is welcome, whether it's your first minute here or your 2500th hour of game time.

--

That's all! See you starside, Guardians.

I wont raid with ppl with no mics until we are all way above the required light with the best strats also memorized.

Get yourself a mic.

Hell plug a pair of headphones that get packaged with an iPhone. It is what I use for dnd and works fine. I do have a nicer set for when I play online though

Let’s go. Where are my master race Warlocks at
Right here.

It's doable with no mic but having one obviously helps. One of the people in my regular group is deaf and we just communicated to him with PSN messages beforehand and designated gestures in-game.

Yes. We are all doing it. Thursday is also a holliday here in Brazil so thats like 2 days straight of destiny :)

I have four weeks off. Very rational. Will do other things as well though. :)

I did. But I wouldn't call myself a rational adult :)

Can hardly wait anymore!

I took off for 17 days, cause screw being a rational adult!

Alright! I'm taking Wednesday off... if I can... or at least taking half a day off so I can play midnight release :D

Thanks for making the choice easy for me haha!

Also hey silver! Havent seen you in a while, welcome back!

Never played Destiny in my life. Still worth picking up? How difficult will it be to get into this game?

I religiously played the first 3 Halos and my current FPS is Overwatch

I'm so jealous of Kiwis. They have the best designed democracy in the world and they get to play games before anyone else.

Did Bungie said if characters imported from D1 can be customized in D2? And consoles characters can be imported to PC versions?

It’d be better to buy destiny 2. I do not recommend buying destiny 1 anymore. The community is a big part of this game and no one going to be playing 1

If you liked the feel of Halo and enjoy a MMORPG progression/gear system with a dash of Diablo... you'll love it.

Not too similar to Overwatch, but feels very good on controller in the same way Halo did back in the day.

It doesn't have much in common with either of those, but this is a fresh start for everyone - no Destiny 1 required. So not hard to get into at all.

If you like playing with an active community (I.e. us), it's an easy recommendation. If not, it kinda depends what you're looking for.

Thanks for all the replies! If I end up double-dipping and buying on PS4 I won't have a mic at the start, but I'll pick one up asap after I've been paid.

13 pages and the game isn't even out yet. I've read a lot of hate on these boards for Destiny but as you can see by this thread the thirst is real lol.

They cannot be customized, no.

And no for the second question. It has to be on the same platform the characters were created on.
