The game constantly switches instances so they will disappear after a bit. You get a chest after a pub event.
People keep saying PSN...it's the Bungie servers that are shit right now. I can play Overwatch, TF, CoD and Madden with no issues. Destiny 1 is fucked as well.
Right after you get to the farm, you'll be sent out to the first open area to meet someone, as soon as you get there you should be free to explore and do public events. Side quests will open up as you progress the main story.
Not for me, I can't access any multiplayer content in any game as it thinks I'm set to appear offline and don't have access to it. I can see my friends, browse the internet/youtube/netflix, visit the PSN store, but anything related to online gaming is fucked.
It's a PSN problem because my profile page outside of destiny 2 says I am offline and will not change to online no matter what I do.

So your best option is to finish campaign.
Then hopefully along the way you dabbled in activities.
Now your main source of Loot is packages from the Vendor's that take in materials
Like Gunsmith with the Weapons and Armor, while each World has their own personal vendor with itbrequiringbyou tobtradecTokens in sets of 10' to fill up the bar
Sooner or later you will need to farm a little, to keep edging your Gear
It's [Bold]PARAMOUNT NOT TO TRADE IN MATERIALS FIRVREP RANK UPS UNTIL BLUE START BECOMINF SCARCE AT POWER LEVEL VALUE INCREASE!
Keep abusing the Blues until 260 PL Cap if possible.
Why? Cause by then you'll have a small stockpile to earn many Rep Rank Up packages to earn Legendary Loot for equipping and dismantling purposes
THERE'S A REASON IM FARMING UP TOKENS LIKE A MAD MAN.
More Packages, more Loot, more progression
Then once you surpass the 260 Hump, Crucible and Strikes take center stage until Raid with Rep packages being the back end backup.
So FINISH CAMPAIGN > EARN BLUES, Keep slotting better # gear, dismantle older blue gear
Save all purple Gear! > Then farm blues through PTE Heroics, repeat the same 3-4 Lost Sectors in a zone, the first area in EDZ is a FUCKING GOLDMINE!
2 High Value Targets, Chests Galore, 3 Lost Sectors, 1 PTE, 1 Enemy Forces move against each other Event
I can do a full cycle in 15 minutes, net me 10-15 Tokens, 4-6 Blue+ Gear, and As you have seen Glimmer Capped beyond belief.
Then spend those tokens once you are 260+, enjoy package Ranks Ups, loot in Legendary firm and be Raid Ready come Tuesday/Wednesday
You can get all 3 Guardians Raid Ready, just get 1 Guardian to be your Accelerant.
Just pump levels into him and feed old Legendary busted Gear into the newer Classes.
There You Go!

Woof Crucible is amateur hour right now. I'm not a good PvP player by any stretch of the imagination 0.9 in D1 and I'm killing it right now.
I will say that I do like the dual primaries. More measured, controlled play benefits me and I can switch between long range and medium range on the fly.

I am actually legitimately upset about how bad the crucible is. This shit is worse than some b-tier Xbox 360 fps from 2007 that had multiplayer tacked on by some contract company.
It is literally a game of run around a corner, if you have more people turning the corner with you, you kill them, otherwise you die. Unless someone has their superpower, in which case they kill everyone. Repeat. Everyone is just standing still shootijg at each other from ADS because if you try to hipfire you might as well not shoot at all for how useless it is.
There is no movement. There is no strategy. There is no logic or gameplay design. They should have just saved themselves the trouble and designed it to be a big square room where each team faces each other and randomly gets a certain number of teammates spawned every ten seconds. The result of the games would be exactly the same.
For all the shit that 343 gets about changing halo multiplayer bungie has totally and completely lost it. Do people only play cruicible to get loot? Why not just have it be an idle game or something?
This is the shittiest, worst joke of a multiplayer mode I have ever been subjected to and everyone at bungie should be ashamed of themselves for this. I feel physically ill when I think of how good halo multiplayer was and THIS is what they make now. I'm almost offended enough to sell the game back but the cooperative modes are quite good.

I dunno if this has been covered but that card with a free month of PS+ that comes in the box works even if you've had PS+ on your account before, despite what it says.

Level 20 and fairly well-geared without having finished the story just from exploring and lots of public events. Did 2 Lost Sectors and got loot upgrades from both.
Random Tips/Tricks so Far
I am so in on the elemental shield break, don't sleep on it. As you get the hang of it you can use it tactically.
For example, if I'm attacking a Captain with an Arc Shield I can whittle his shield down with any weapon, then use the Arcstrider melee once it is low (but not off), and the melee damage + shield break makes it a one-shot, whereas if actually taking his shield down it could take two melee hits to kill. Similar any halfway-decent shotgun shot with a void shotgun one-shots a Minotaur because of the high-initial damage + break.
My favorite though, I've only found one sword, but it's Arc and on captains, the melee-melee-R2 to lower, then break the shield is awesome. You can follow up with another R2 to kill. Or sometimes this move just sends them flying off a cliff to their death lol. Luckily you still have the check spawn from named targets if you do this.

Finished the campaign. Really enjoyed it. I don't know that it had more quantity of missions than D1, but the quality of the missions was so exponentially better.
Unlike the first game, I'm now overwhelmed with all the things I could do. Adventures, Flashpoints, Quests, Challenges, and Meditations! So much more to keep me going.
I also got the "World's End" thing. If it is related to raid, I wonder what it is exactly and why it shows up in the Power Weapon slot as opposed to the standard inventory.

I'm sure you understand that the people who visit GAF are tech savvy enough to know the first thing to do when troubleshooting is to reset everything. Its an issues with PAN, no people's machines. Thousands of people are having the same issue.
