Hades 2 |OT| It's About Killing Time

The first Hades game also had Early Access... on the Epic Games Store. It may as well not have even bothered. The game's launch (on Steam) was a huge deal. The game had a huge word of mouth following that has grown organically over the last few years. Hell, even The Cockatrice The Cockatrice has the screenshot above for charts, the first game didn't even hit its peak until the second game was announced.

So, the game launched on Early Access on Steam last year. As others have mentioned, the game is extremely similar to the first game. The game isn't controversial either, people almost universally love it. All these factors boil down to there not being a lot of conversation around the game.

But guess what? The lack of conversation around this game has nothing to do with its quality. The game is still amazing, still deserving of it's MC score, and definitely something you should play if you liked the first one.

Also it's retarded to correlate its impact with you wanting to play the game. Just fucking buy it. It's great. Or dont and gtfo and stop arguing with people here.
I was not arguing, and didn't drag it on until you showed up with your insults, as usual. I was asking a question about game's popularity. But two sensitive hades lovers got triggered by a simple question. OT isn't just for praising games; criticism is part of it too. If you think otherwise, then you gtfo and start your own "Hades 2 fans" thread. And check your tag if you want to know who is retarded.

You havent played the game. You're not criticizing anything. You're literally just arguing for no reason, besides the fact that you were wrong about its popularity compared to the first. You brought nothing of value to the topic nor am I some hardcore fanboy of Hades. If you want to talk about the actual game when you played it and want to shitpost about it, that's absolutely fine, but what you're doing is just dumb shit.

No one gives a shit about this game, right?

This is your first post here, and I'm the retard? No, really, just stop posting.

Oh, I'm a Hades fan alright. But I'm not a fan of extremes like how you popped into the thread with straight up baiting and hyperbole

Nobody here is arguing that you can't criticize a game. I do it enough myself and I said the exact same thing you just said about OTs in the MindsEye thread: threads aren't just for praise, criticism belongs there too.

But what you did wasn't criticism. It was a lazy, absolute dismissal of the entire game's existence and reception. If you wanna have a real convo about the game, cool and start with something that isn't nuclear from word one

I said "it looks/plays exactly the same as the first game. I didn't see anything new in the videos, it looks like a dlc." so it was a criticism at heart. When I said "No one gives a shit about this game, right?", I didn't mean it literally, and every other poster understood that and replied accordingly — except you two, who took it seriously and personally. Of course plenty of people talked about the game; it was a GOTY nominee. But for a highly anticipated sequel to a popular IP with a 95 average score, I expected it to make more noise, especially in here(140 replies in 3 months? few mentions in GOTY thread?). I may have expressed that in an exaggerated way(I use "no one" a lot when I try to say few), but I wasn't trying to trash the game. I even said I wanted to buy it(and liked the first one), I was just wondering if there was a reason why it isn't being discussed much here and wanted to hear opinions from people who've played it.

Anyways... Ok, I'm leaving this thread to you, have fun. But let me drop one last nuclear before leaving: Bastion was better than Hades 1, and it was the game that truly deserved a sequel. Good night, gentlemen.

Early Access probably completely ruined what impact this game could have had on me. I know it's my own fault but still, such a terrible genre to be dripfed content for. Put about 200 hours in it. Completed everything there is to complete aside from going more than 32 fear. Absolutely loved everything about it and I'll rock some of those tracks for years to come.

That said it didn't hit me even half as hard as the first game and I find that so disappointing.

Funny how now it's 'everyone understood the hyperbole' after you spent posts defending it, then pivoted to 'agree to disagree' when facts hit

I didn't "take it personally". I indeed took it literally, because that's how you phrased it

Alright man, you said 'nobody' and got shown people. That's all. Have a good one

No one gives a shit about this game, right? What happened? Is the problem that it looks/plays exactly the same as the first game, or did everyone already get their fill during early access? I was going to buy it, but I didn't see anything new in the videos, it looks like a dlc. It looks like it sold quite well, but I haven't seen anyone talking about this game.
lmao what

it's better than the original imho, and I put about 700 hours into that shit.

H2 is excellent.

so it feels like the game rewards you for learning special/mana moves at first... but later regular attacks really shine sometimes... I'm still feeling like a newbie pricking at vow16

i still struggle with pew pew builds like the skull... hel aspect what the fuck

big dick damage feels so good... the axe and cloak... good god... sister blades 777

gotta figure out the pew pew... i bet theres some small dick prick prick builds that kill...

i'm loathe to admit i had to google something, but not gonna lie... i did

not sure how i was supposed to figure this one out on my own through the endless character dialog ... but even once i knew what i was supposed to do, it was still confusing as fuck and took several runs

i get that you are supposed to stumble on a lot of this stuff through iterative gameplay, but this was just some stupid shit designed by king asshole

Finally rolled credits yesterday on Hades 2. A very fun game up to this point but I think I'll forgo the additional grind for some of these extras. I kind of wish I got this on PC so I could do an unlock mod to play with various build. Maybe I'll get it cheap in a few years for that purpose. I ended up liking Medea skull and Melonie blades a lot, and black coat.

There's certainly more to 2 than 1 to its benefit mostly and detriment slightly.

Pros
Having two paths is great for variety
I liked the bosses and regular enemies better
Some new gameplay elements with omegas and hexes are fun

Neutral
The cast binding circle seems to make aggressive play less encouraged

Cons
I found to resource drip, garden, and arcana to be worse and gate keep different build variety behind grinding

It tells you at some point how to trigger it through dialogue if I remember correctly, but yeah it was kinda stupid besides being very anti-climactic imo. Def not worth the hassle.

well it leads to that dialogue with hecate which is the whole story... so it was very consequential

i do sorta remember speeding through dialogue because of fatigue, and it was sort of mentioned... but that's only half the problem

once i knew what i was supposed to do, it still took several runs because it has to happen in a very specific way, something 99% would have missed without the internet

imo this is due to internet culture, and i think supergiant knew a few enough people on steam beta would figure it out, and the rest of us would just google it... as if we all play videogames in a wiki article

i hate this kind of design... it wasn't just a small piece of boring dialog with brooklyn accents (lame btw)... it led to the megaton reveal in the hot tub with hecate... i wasn't even expecting it, i was just doing more runs, so in that sense googling the fates dialog didn't ruin the suprise at least

Post-Launch Patch 2 Notes

We're very grateful for all your support of Hades II since our v1.0 launch last fall, and all through our Early Access development before then! With that in mind, we're pleased to present our second Post-Launch Patch, which includes some bonus content and quality-of-life improvements we've been working on.

5603638371e4f4d3b943ed989f3c27b3ab4204dc.png

Highlights

Fated Prophecy Updates: Prophecies about characters such as Odysseus and Arachne now have new narrated conclusion scenes, which can be viewed in the Fated List once those Prophecies are fulfilled.

Forever Gifting: Most Crossroads characters now can be gifted Bath Salts, Twin Lures, or Ambrosia indefinitely after forging a bond with them, in various brief new scenes.

Going Steady: Characters with whom Melinoë can have non-Platonic relations may occasionally show interest in continuing to have such relations.

New Dialogue Events: Many of the game's characters have new things to say at various points throughout the story.

...And More! Look for dreamy new decorative items in the Crossroads Training Grounds, a new alternate form for each Animal Familiar, and additional surprises we hope you'll enjoy!

Can someone tell me what the game is all about because i'm constantly dying and restart the game basically, whats the goal in this game?

I suppose it's not that easy because i observed that i get new abilities every death that probably means i get stronger every death or is it? But too be clear i have to finish and win the game in a single run?
I haven't actually played through Hades 2... but the original was something like... play it till you beat it... then beat it a number of other times to get to the true ending and to knock off various checklists and unlocks.

But yeah, that's the general idea... to win a 'run'. And you'll get stronger over time to where it's more about finishing runs faster, or with extra handicaps, that sort of thing.

Ok, i see. So i don't loose abilities when i die i assume.

Continue playing

In this game, dying is progress. Every time you die, you bring back resources that you can't lose

Think of it this way: Every run is just a shopping trip for the upgrades that will eventually make you unstoppable.

Focus on unlocking the Arcana Cards first (specifically the one that gives you extra lives, called Death Defiance). It makes the 'constantly dying' part feel a lot less punishing

I'm excited to get into this. It seems like a lot of you love it. I liked the first game, but did want to play it more.

I'm hoping this one bites me

Beat Cronos last night. I enjoyed making him take a momentary break. I need to figure out where to get some resources and advance some stuff.

The game has 100k reviews on Steam, it's Overwhelmingly Positive at 95%. And this thread has only... 4 pages? GAF disappoints once again.

I finally managed start this one (bought it on release), and yeah, this is Hades but even better. The game plays like a dream at high framerates, it's buttery smooth and the combat is as exciting and dynamic as always. Seems like the perfect sequel.

I won't bother with the true ending this time, I did that for Hades 1 but it was a big endless grind. Looking forward to get my ass handed as I make my way towards Cronos.

I played this a little bit in early access and picked it back up. Kinda forgot everything but settling back in.. Got to Cerby but failed. I'm still not feeling it as much as the first Hades... too many voice actresses on SSRIs. Also I kind of forgot what that AOE attack is supposed to be... by default it just slows stuff down, and it's the same no matter what weapon you have? For that matter I need to figure out which weapon I actually like. There's a bit much going on with materials... and... I guess I'm supposed to grow plants... I'm sure I'll settle in if I don't take another big break but I'm not there yet. Maybe I should have just deleted my save file and restarted but who wants to lose progress like that?

Got to Chronos for the first time today (Night 8), I even managed to beat the first phase and I still had two res, I thought I had it in the bag but in the second phase he does an instakill area wide attack and I didn't notice any safe zones, maybe I just didn't notice in all the chaos. I will try to pay more attention next time, I was so close...

As far as builds go, I'm just going with the flow, I'm experimenting to see what weird combinations come out. I think it's more fun that way, even if less efficient than trying to go for a specific build.

Managed to get Chronos the night after basically, and then a few times in a row with different weapons. The weapons I like most for now are the Sister Blades and Black Coat, Umbral Flames and Argent Skull are pretty cool too. Not sure how I feel about Witch's Staff and Moonstone Axe, I need to find a way to make them work properly, I always feel like I don't get enough DPS with those.

After beating Chronos three times I unlocked the surface and started to get my ass handed to me once again, took me a couple of tries to get past Prometheus, then I got rekt by some minibosses in the last zone, and finally managed to get to Typhon after a few more runs. Needless to say, I kept getting destroyed at its last phase, I feel like if you don't have decent DPS it's really difficult to beat it, with Chronos it's easier to wittle him down even with a suboptimal build.

After a few tries I finally managed to beat it with Black Coat + dash strike hits 3 times + full Poisedon boons on Attack. Not sure if I will be able to beat it again next time, I feel like I lucked out this time.

Really enjoying the game btw, the only critique is that runs feel too long, they should be 30 min tops. The clear time at the end is completely fake, for example for my last surface run it says 23 mins. I checked it with Steam Recording: started the run at 1:28:37, finished at 2:26:56, so it was basically 1 hour, more if you count the preparations in the Crossroad and the Olympus part. That's too much.
