Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

I'm really glad you said the word "anxiety." That's how I feel.

It's how I felt with freaking Chroma. I never used Chroma until I had a TON because I wanted to mix and match and try out different things. It should have been like... you use a Chroma on a piece of armor, it's there forever. And you can cycle through them if you "use" all the different colors.

(Instead, they even charged us to "break down" Chroma and it gave us a freaking random option until we spent more money.)

And isn't it like 5000 glimmer to apply a shader in Destiny 2? Every single time?

Thank you for sympathizing with me here. I was worried someone would mock me.

I hated Chroma for the same reason. It was too stressful to use. But also, Chroma was applied ON TOP of shaders. These new shaders dictate everything.

Also, another good point someone said on reddit:

the end result is more "I don't care about getting the raid shader, because I can't use it without losing this other shader I really like"

I love the new exotic engrams, just got my first one off a public event! It's let's you preview it and as you keep increasing your power level the contents of the engram changes.

Ouch. I think I'm going to stop progress on my Warlock then and move over to Titan for my main. The revive ability was such a godsend during raids, but without it I'm not sure there's much keeping me in the Warlock camp. Bummer.
Their other supers are crazy powerful this time and the Healing/Empowering rifts are awesome for Fireteam support.

Gonna take this one by one:

1. Shaders have always been earned through gameplay.
2. It's great that you're adding more places to earn them.
3. Would you consider this flush? This is DGAF Everyday Math:

Look how many shaders! Wow!
Look how many are below 4. Uh-oh.

It takes a long time to get to 20. And even once you get to 20 you're moving through gear at a fast pace. ZERO incentive to use shaders til you're at the very end game and have a stable loadout.

But what shaders come from where? The kiosk used to handle this. You can inspect some vendors to see, but this a real problem.

But that's still gonna be true if the shaders aren't consummable. You have 3 weapons, 4 armor slots, and a ship. And that's before you get into alternate load outs and other characters.

I gives me real anxiety looking at this (mine is similar):

I'm not good at picking out what colors go well with each other. And I am paralyzed trying to figure out what to apply to what. And the penalty for changing or undoing is so steep.

I hate this change. Only the consummable part of it. Keep 'em as drops. Just don't penalize me for experimenting and wanting to change things around.

This is like 2 years when class items had light and you had to wear the highest light item even if you hated it because it had the highest light.

Sums up nicely. Can't, but feel that this was fully unnecessary change as in Destiny 1 you were already heading back to activities and locations while chasing those elusive and seeked after shaders.

Also I can already see myself never using hard to get and very low amount shaders like Bright Engram, Raid, Trials, Event....

Why not just have shaders drop as an unlockable on all items. so items have a shader tab and when you apply a shader it unlocks that option on that gear so that you can go back to it. Also why not have a kiosk or add to the collection where you can buy 1 of that shader for like a legendary shard or have glimmer be used for something useful. you can also still have some shaders only unlockable via bright engrams.

It is pretty fuckin crazy to me that I've played free to play games that let me customize my weapon and armor colors at will with whatever colors I choose... but this AAA $60 game has predetermined shaders that are also one time use...

People being upset is understandable and I hope they adjust the current system for those that care about the fashion side of progression.

I think it will be an even bigger issue when we get seasonal events that have time limited earnable shaders... When you use them and run out you can't even farm them again once the event is over... Maybe they don't go that route with events in destiny 2 but I fully expect it. They'll want to pressure you into paying and stocking up on the event shaders

So, when it says power 200, or whatever, that changes if you don't decrypt and keep growing in power?

Campaign was okay.
Story was generic as hell right down to the cliche dialog. The banter on Nessus was amusing though. The Ghaul fight was a terrible bullet sponge mess, and most of the abstract level design started to blur together at one point. There were some pleasant surprises like the Arcology on Titan, the vehicle segment and the city element, but they still succumbed to the Destiny formula with how bite sized they were. The city in particular was too short of a section and I doubt I'll be able to go back and trigger the mission. And for all the hype about characters appearing in the game, they're only scripted vignettes or stationary vendors, and any fighting they do is limited to a cutscene. It's a far cry from the Halo days when the Arbiter would fight alongside you or you would storm a beach with Noble Team at your flank. Seeing the Taken reused was also a shame.

It's better than Destiny 1 in almost every way, but I still expected more from Bungie.

edit: also
was there not even a cutscene for destroying/disabling the almighty? I planted the charge and then it just went to The Last City cutscene.

100% agree. I expected more from Bungie regarding the campaign with what they achieved in the past with Halo, especially the AI, being friendly or not. I was really disappointed, but at least, Bungie still make a great deal of "Show, don't tell".

I think you're the first one I've personally seen bring up the AI difference between Destiny and Halo even among negative critics of Destiny. I definitely feel that the threat from enemies in this series comes more from quantity than quality in AI. And its funny, the game play is so good that in the original game, in the back of my head I'm thinking how dull the AI is, but the good gun play and weapons distracted me from that, but as you sit there on the strike playlist for 6 hours straight over 3 years, it just becomes too glaring.

Another thing is that I guess because not everyone will have the same set up or playstyle, they can't force you into very unique encounters forcing certain playstyles. Let's say you can't be forced into a "sniper valley" where you may have to follow a narrow path and fight your way through by having a sniper battle with the AI. Most encounters even the more linear ones will have to be more of an "arena scuffle".

I really like to be challenged by the AI in general and feel like, if I die, it's because the AI was actually really smart and I didn't go far enough to out-smart it. I wanna feel like "Woah, dude, this was a really clever move, and a really interesting encounter!".

Destiny just can't provide me this since it's only having a big bunch of dumb AI to fight until they outnumber you in the end.

I never felt I was forced to have a specific playstyle in any Halo level, but I see what you're saying here, and I kind of agree, Bungie clearly can design specific level/gameplay around people having specific set of weapon, it would kill the fun in Destiny.

I feel like the "emptiness" and "lifelessness" of Destiny 1 kinda made me less able to get immersed in certain setpiece moments in Destiny 2.

Like that time where you steal the
CPU
and have this long
"warthog" sequence
. I really didn't 'feel' that.

Yeah, I also feel the part with the vehicles were the weakest part of Destiny. It just feel off, I don't really know why.

...two days after launch. I get your sentiment overall but to me that shows less of an issue than you make out in that particular case.

Two days after launch, but 30+ hours into it. Which is a significant amount. Math is barely at the soft cap, so she's still cycling through gear. But I take your point.

I made the point because the word "Flush" is ambiguous. Math here has 29 different shaders BUT most of them are at a count of 2 or 3.

Grave does the + mean that the game keeps tracking your glimmer over 99999 it just doesn't show it?

When you buy things doesn't your glimmer go below 99999 immediately?
You mean it's not 77,777
😑
U fail bungle

I was so happy it was over 25k but yea wish it was 999,999 because 99k won't be enough late game lol

The running joke is Fashion Frame is the true endgame of Warframe. That's a free to play title. Granted you need to use real money to get the cosmetics (sort of like the Tess engrams), but they are permanent and can be used on ever Frame (and accessory).

At least give a Kiosk that we can repurchase the shader from with glimmer. This is a hugely stupid step backwards and does reek of "buy these loot chests for the shaders you want." I hope they at least do the kiosk solution as all avenues are covered.

That's a fair point, I certainly understand the concern but I feel it will be slightly less impactful over the course of time than some people think.

I say that as someone that swapped shaders almost every time they visited the tower, and hours pouring over the kiosk to choose which for what outfit. New system sucks, for sure, but I don't see it making as large a dent as I did when I first read about it.

Hold the fuck up... i have to PAY to equip a disposable shader!? lol you've got to be kidding me! Why?!?!
No, you don't have to. You can get them from activities and levelling up. Not to diminish how poor the implementation is, just to correct the info for people reading.

It's like Overwatch but if you buy a skin (cash or in game), and then swap to another later, then you lose that one.

Edit: I'm dumb. Thought you meant pay as in pay real money, not glimmer.

Also I hate the clutter that shaders and currencies add to the inventory.
Planet mats and tokens could just be a small element of the menu.

Making them consumable really is shit. Needed a few for a whole set? Fine...but having them just be one offs, is really terri-bad.

Paying to equip a shader is total nonsense. That said, in Destiny 1 I was usually at the Glimmer cap 99.99999% of the time.

Yeah sorry glimmer. I shoulda been more clear :)

For the inevitable silver to glimmer sales at Tess.

Tess can go eat a turd

Its not enough that you earned the shader by playing.

Right?!

That's pretty much the only reason I'll never equip a shader, having to pay glimmer to use a one time use shader is a crazy decision.

It's an absurd fucking decision. Ok, i have to get disposable shaders... i get it. Sucks but i can live with that. THEN i have to pay somebody (who am i paying BTW lol) to put the shader on? Fuck off Bungie!

Question about lifebar enemy color...
Why Am I seeing all the "captains" with orange lifebar? All my friends are seeing yellow.
We are all lvl 15

Any idea?

I haven't had a chance to check yet today since I'm at work, but do the planetary "challenges" reset daily? Something happened and I wasn't able to complete my weekly to "do 3 challenges in EDZ", despite all 3 being completed. I was hoping those little mini challenges change daily.

The anxiety thing can kind of ring true for me too. If anything, it just means that whenever I'm going to get a rare shader that I want, I'm just going to keep it in my inventory with a hoarder's mentality because I don't know if the gear I want to use it with is going to become thrown away in place of something else. I just end up storing them until I have a comfortable buffer of shaders and go from there, which I don't care for really.

Can't say that I'm a fan of consumable shaders. I thought they worked fine in Destiny 1.

How are the color options set up on your TV?
Have you been tested for color blindness?

...
That's all I can think of...

They do indeed.
