PewDiePie will probably dispute it and win.

never left the stone age
Maybe this'll end up making YouTube a cleaner place while also hashing out what exactly counts as fair use, hopefully we got a potential win/win on our hands here

Guess I'll finally gave Firewatch a play.

This Ian guy is a real loser. Pewdie is a loser too. This is "hardcore" gamers in a nutshell.

If you're not utterly appalled by this, then even if you're genuinely not a racist yourself, your apathy towards the unjust suffering of others makes you an enabler of those racist assholes who intentionally try to propagate their poisonous message.

Fuck PDP and fuck anyone who would try to defend this asshat.

I love the "but it was in a heated gaming moment!" defense.
I know I randomly screaming "HEIL HITLER" when I'm playing PUBG, who doesn't

and "I forgot i was live-streaming" is such a bad excuse. and proves that he has no problem with saying the word, just saying it around strangers. using the n-word isn't like farting. its not only bad when its used in public. its bad period

I would love to believe his viewers care enough to stop watching his videos now. Also anyone defending him or saying racism is an American issue born of privilege is a fucking idiot.

Good for Campo Santo but I wont expect more devs or publishers doing thr same. The gamee industry is ppretty much all white people and ttthey care more about money than anything, pewdiepie helps them sell a lot of games and they care more about than anything.

I can't say I'm a fan of DMCA abuse being weaponized in this fashion, as it puts us on kind of a slippery slope.

It certainly stirs the pot though.

Is it really abuse though? The copyright laws exist in part for companies to protect their brand and being associated with a blatant racist if not nazi can certainly be damaging and seems like a good use for it.

Can't pull a DSP with this.

The only way you could even ask this question is if you were completely ignorant about racism in the world today, which given that all of us in this thread use the internet seems fucking impossible

Ok dude. Let me elaborate.

Given the context of this thread I was referring to the frequency at which the word "Nigger" is encountered on the internet and specifically Online Multiplayer Games.

Because in comparison the frequency that you would encounter the use of this word in Real Life/Out in Public is less. (Especially here in Dallas, there are places that would get your ass shot or stabbed).

PewDiePie the person in which is the perpetrator in this case is who? A Internet personality. Who specifically was doing what? Playing a online video game.

My (rhetorical thought) question was more about the ignorance and the casual use of racial words used in the mutliplayer gaming community at large.

PewDiePie is a person who lives in Sweden. How the hell can he understand the legitimate grievances of Black People here in America?(Which I doubt he cares anyways.) He hasn't grown up in America to experience first-hand the racial division that exist here in this country. He will never truly understand the evil, hateful, painful, wicked, and miserable legacy that the word "Nigger" has carried throughout American history.

You can tell someone how bad something is, but until they experience it first-hand they will never truly understand.

How is this going to help? Pretty sure you cant abuse the youtube system like this.

Ps. This is not me defending PDP, this is just me wondering if they can actually do this and make it stick.

It's an interesting discussion. Like, can Camp Santo argue that PewDiePie's association with their product is damaging?

I still view that in the lens of animosity. You've had people like JonTron and now Pewdiepie come out and show their true colors. But there is STILL a huge sector of the gaming populace that shield these same sentiments from the public.

And even with those who don't, you've got people who will uncomfortably keep quiet about it because social media circles are caught up in a web of six degrees of separation. Often insisted upon by their fanbase too, so people get coerced by the demands of internet fame and popularity into making friends with possible shitheads.

Edit:

Born in Sweden but lives in the UK now.

Also one can damn well understand how racial slurs should not be used without being born in nations where they are most applicable. That's a basic skill of comprehension and empathy.

Great, now Jim Sterling is going to have to go to bat for a racist. I'm sure that's what he wanted to hear today.
I love Sterling's videos as much as the next guy but I would LOVE to see him take the Jimquisition to another platform to send a message to YouTube that they need to take action on PewDiePie that amounts to more than a slap on the wrist. I would follow him wherever. And that goes for anyone else on YouTube that takes a similar stand.

I think this is a really dangerous precedent and Gaf should be seriously wary of supporting it. I understand that a publisher/developer might not like their game to be played by a person who doesn't share their values. However Let's Play videos are already in uncertain legal territory. Even if they are supported across the board or not. If this is allowed to happen it could potentially mean that a YouTuber cannot make a let's play video of a game unless they are pre-approved by the publisher. This is bad news because it could lead to vetting of YouTubers so only brand loyal ones are approved who will give favourable coverage.

I understand the strong feeling to take action but this is not the way.

And people shouldn't treat him like one.

Absolutely. But just because he acts like one doesn't mean we have to treat him like one.
I edited my post a little bit after you guys quoted it. He clearly doesn't give a shit about any perceived "consequences" if you watch the video posted that has footage after the part where he corrects himself by saying "fucking asshole." He absolutely shouldn't be treated like one, but he hasn't changed at all.

It's amazing how anyone can even remotely defend this.

Using that word as an insult says a whoooooole lot about someone, none of it good. In that context it's literally indefensible.

That is also a good point. While I think Jim Sterling would be critical of any use of DMCA against YTers because they don't like them (and dislike him they should), I think it's a bigger issue that PewDiePie has such influence over impressionable youths while spouting racist shit.

I dunno, I can't ever see Jim defending PDP even over this. At least I hope he won't because I don't wanna have to stop watching Jimquisition :(

He's very much against what he perceives as weaponization of DMCA claims though, and a HUGE proponent of fair use. Might see this as a slippery slope kind of deal.
