PewDiePie "What a f***ing n*****." out of frustration when his teammate dies.

It wasn't even a dead cancer kid joke, it was a dead racist kid joke. Obviously no one thinks children should die of cancer, but one whose dying wish is for others to respect his racism? That's someone whose views won't be missed. That was the point of the joke. This hypothetical child could have been dying of anything and the joke still works as commentary on bad racist views.
Exactly!
The other thing is, we frown upon dead cancer kid jokes generally because they're mean spirited - laughing at someone's misfortune and pain that they did not deserve, and that they had no control over.
Part of the cruelty of racism is that (beyond the obvious and primary point of how it insinuates that being of a certain race is a bad thing) is that it is hurting someone over something that they had no control over.
Someone who, when give the chance to do something good for themselves or the world, instead wishes to use that chance to denigrate people over something they have no control over is a force for evil. The world would be better without them.

This was on the gaming side:

Boogie is streaming now on twitch. Wanted to see if he would say what he said was unforgivable. Noooooooooo pe , he literally just said that racism is ok if there is no violence, i am not kidding. He said I can tolerate it then went on to just say he is ignorant about the word. Dude works on the internet, he knkws all about the fucking word.

That cancer kid scenario does demonstrate a bizarre tendency you see in these kinds of people where they genuinely struggle to understand how sympathy works and attempt to game it to their advantage. If I was really vulnerable, then wouldn't you have to sympathize with me and let me do whatever I want? That's not how it works you racist shit.

It's like how in Gamergate threads you'd get five zillion fuckers crawling out of their Internet ratholes to go "sure some Gamergaters harass people but you wouldn't attribute what one Muslim does to all Muslims", because they figure that liberals sympathize with Muslims and you can trick them into going into sympathy mode that way.

I'm shook to even check the gaming side thread. I can guess how it's going down

One of the first legitimate arguments I ever got in at NeoGAF came during a FG tournament thread (when I first got here I basically used to only visit the FG threads. took quite awhile before I ventured out and found out there were a lot of movie nuts here, too)

Anyway, I believe Chris G called someone a "faggot" on twitter or something and there was (amazingly) a 3 or 4 page discussion that eventually just petered out about how restricting people from using that word in the heat of the moment was making the FGC too politically correct for its own good. The discussion almost immediately went in a direction like "I bet you think white people shouldn't be allowed to say the N-word, either." and IIRC, I think it was me and Dartastic half-drunk and arguing with 4 or 5 people (including some FGC video producer, I think?) that white people shouldn't use racial slurs, and straight people shouldn't be homophobic for the sake of "hype" on a stream.

I don't remember winning, or really making any sort of dent. I think I basically had to placate a couple people who just kept getting upset and trying to flip it as if I was being hypocritical, and so I had to mea culpa and shut up because the rest of the thread essentially was like "Stop being lame and whining about shit that doesn't matter."

That was 2013 or 2014, I think. Something like that.

But yeah - there are a lot of people on that side of the board who think empathy is a weakness, and approach basic morality like it's a puzzle you can solve (or cheat) as fast as possible in order to do things you want to do just because you want to do them. And there are a lot of people with considerable audiences in their communities and sub-communities who reinforce those beliefs because a whole bunch of people are basically a-ok with barrelling full-speed through this life sans any historical precendent or context, pretending like everything they trip over is the first time anyone everywhere's ever tripped over it and therefore nobody should be blamed for how its handled because how could they know.

I mean, they're on this side of the board too, but not as prominently.

Don't, most of that thread is a fucking trash fire. the lengths that some people went through to attempt to defend this shit is just sad...

Not surprised at the Boogie stuff posted above either. Something about him just never sat right with me.

Originally I took Boogie to be a cowardly centrist.

But fuck, it's impossible to see him as anything more than a cowardly racist going to bat for his friends.
"Y'know guys, we've all been there, I'm not excusing what he said, but in anger.. we can say anything really.. uh... it's a racist word but Felix isn't racist

please feel sorry for me"

I'm not sure if it's changed in the actual FGC threads since I haven't caught much social discussion on there but Chris G recently got lit up for saying black women can't play fighting games among other things on gaming side.

I feel like there's been some progress since the days of man-children getting defensive over the phrase "Rape that bitch".

Something else that was linked to in that thread that I didn't see before:

Boogie being caught using homophobic slurs on 4chan and defending its use.

I was pretty confident saying that he was a racist earlier, but apparently that's not the end of it either.
Such a stupid fucking excuse.

Just because we call cigarettes fags, doesn't mean it's OK to use the word to describe something other than a cigarette. His argument isn't even that he meant it as a cigarette, instead its "well if I was in this specific country it would have meant something else so what's the problem?"

I'm beginning to think that this Boogie fellow isn't terribly intelligent.

I'm amazed it took pages before EviLore was the one who called out that BS. Seriously, it was all 'I respect your opinion to say a homophobic slur you know is homophobic because it's used in a different context in a different country. What a nice and interesting person you are!'.

Wouldn't surprise me. VGAs are a burning dumpster fire and it frustrates me anyone gives them attention.

Did anyone post PhillyD's reaction yet? The fact that he talked about the Firewatch dev for so much of the video is disappointing to say the least.

Said it before in another thread, philly is trying to be a journalist but he isn't a journalist also what others are saying here is not focusing on the issue at hand, no but my revenue more important than racism.

, no but my revenue more important than racism.

Yes.

- Actually punish pewdiepie, recognize how the platform's content is racist as fuck on many of its highest places and fucking deal with it = less revenue for all YTers, since sponsors will worry
- Ignore the racism and get PDP out of this mess unscathed = hopes for no revenue changes since "nothing happened" and sponsors will shrug.

This, fear of losing followers and actual fucking racism are the reasons why so many YTers side with PDP over and over again. Youtube is a mess.

For those who want a preview of what H3H3's opinion is going to be:

Here is an 8 minute clip from H3H3 Podcast from Sept. 9th where Ethan outlines his political views. It basically boils down to both sides causing divide and Ethan being the real victim in the end.

Ethan just sounds like he was one of those liberals/progressives/allies who liked it better when minority groups were quite but now that "SJW's" are being vocal and demanding change he's being "forced" into the center.

So if he makes a video it's gonna be about the mainstream media and the SJW's overreacting about free comedy speech.

Sooo, whats the difference between YouTube vloggers and the old celebrity gossip trash magazines you find at a grocery stores at the checkout?

Children getting poisoned one way or the other. At least those gossip magazines probably never used the n-word.

I keep saying this since Trump got elected: bothsiders are the worst of the bunch. With nazis and alt-righters at least you know what they're up to and what to expect. But fucking bothsiders are snakes you can't trust.

It sounds like some supervillain cliche, "Mwahaha! Your feelings make you weak" It makes sense though when you think about it. Gamers are used to finding the quickest and easiest solution for things, cheating even. It's like when I played SSB Brawl and one of my brother's friends, Oohed an ahhed over Dark Link. Excitedly proclaiming he got to play as a n****r. I proclaimed my protest, saying, "Whoa! Dude! Not cool at all" But he ignored me. All he cared about was being mesmerized by how cool the game was. He was a pretty young guy. Like middle schooler or so. This was around 07-08. I never saw him again, but I always wondered if that was a one time thing and he learned better, or if he got worse. Whenever I hear stuff like this happening, I just can't help but think I should've put my foot down harder. Maybe sit his ass down to watch something like Brother Future (first thing I watched as a kid that really taught me how bad slavery and racism was as a kid). One of my biggest regrets I think about, no lie.

It's Philip DeFranco. Anyone expecting him to do anything decent has not been paying attention. He's yet another "both sides are as bad as each other, I'm the sensible intelligent guy in the middle" which always coincidently leaves him defending the alt right and gamergate whilst attacking the left. He's a complete and utter shit, and it's frustrating how that act goes down so well with so many people.

Yup, Philip is a loaf of white bread who thinks he's an inoffensive centrist with a pragmatic approach but in reality he is a piece of shit that doesn't have the spine to confront a racist who shares his livelihood.

This is a really good video, bringing in the kid was eye opening.

Also, kudos on the kid for going on a livestream and facing that discussion, took balls.
Shame he quickly left after getting his shit called out in the gaming thread, making it look like he just didn't have a valid argument and didn't want to debate.
