PewDiePie calls someone a "fucking n****r" during PUBG livestream

There's no contest because exactly zero people in this thread have said that it's worse than the n-word.

You're the one who said that there's a certain sense of irony in using a derogatory slur to describe someone for their use of another quite seperate derogatory slur. It's really a meaningless observation when the words are "nigger" and "cunt" though, and if you need someone to explain why you're simply being disingenuous. It's quite apparent.

Why? seemed obvious he was a bit of a shitbag *Oh no but thats just a persona* yeah right..
it seemed self aware enough that i gave him the benefit of the doubt

this is a huge bummer though so fuck him. you got to be one some other kind of level to blame someone saying something offensive on the people who were offended

Amazing how the racists on this site are too big of pussies to actually use their main

It really just speaks to it all doesn't it.

They use alts to say how all of this shit is ok, but would never post on their main accounts because they know what would happen and how they'd look.

Honestly. Just embrace it. Be racist. So I know to never associate with your asses.

The thing is these people will keep coming out defending PDP because they see themselves in him. They don't think what they're saying is actually wrong so they assume it's a witch hunt and they could be next. They don't have a moral or social compass because they are that selfish and shitty.

I've known people who would go "yeah but if someone heard me call someone a "faggot" and tried to ruin my life over it" and my response is always "Why are you calling someone that in the first place?". Then it becomes don't tread on me, words are just words, blah blah blah bullshit. It's only about them and their rights but never about the groups being attacked through those slurs. It's literally what privilege is.

What a lot of those "youtuberz personalitiez" fail to realize is that it´s not about them being offended or not... it´s about the most famous youtuber with millions of subscribers (most of them young kids) watching PDP say the n-word and make jokes about the nazi like it was some sort of game or meme-machine. When nothing happens and there isn´t some sort of repercussion his viewers think it´s okay to copy him - and most will already act like it´s okay to say all that EVEN if PDP gets fucked by his actions. There are a bunch, a bunchhhh of viewers of all genders and ages that say on youtube comments how much they love him and that they will stay by his side no matter what and all that. So yeah, that´s how much influence this guy has and he has to watch his mouth.

Like I said, a good portion of his viewership see him as a massive influence and consume his content every single day, so it is a problem when PDP say some shit like that and nothing happens. People say "it was the heat of the moment", or "meh, I am black I am not triggered". It´s not about you... but one, dozens, hundreds or maybe millions of his viewers that will care and act based on it.

Exactly.

Boogie is streaming now on twitch. Wanted to see if he would say what he said was unforgivable. Noooooooooo pe , he literally just said that racism is ok if there is no violence, i am not kidding. He said I can tolerate it then went on to just say he is ignorant about the word. Dude works on the internet, he knkws all about the fucking word.

Every single youtuber is exposing them self as saying we not racist, but hey we are racist but in the middle! But there is no middle you moron....

People seem to forget there is a line in tolerance. Seeing how every other youtubers mainly white and most white are saying it is just a word, pewdiepie his audience backing him up (because he influenced them and not only that makes them think they can say anything see his rape jokes, anti semitism). Yeah it really shows all those true colors on how not think straight.

After watching this develop for a couple of days I think there are some strong overreactions on both sides. Now before I go on, I just want to say I'm not trying to take a 'centrist' view here; PewDiePie was wrong to say that word, he should not be defended for saying that word, and he should issue an honest apology for saying that word. It's not appropriate or a show of good character to say, especially since he has a young, impressionable audience.

However, I think people are looking a bit too far into this. I've seen people very quick to denounce PewDiePie as an irredeemable racist because of this, and I just have to disagree. Now I don't watch his videos or know him personally, so I can't say I can be an absolute judge about this, and that goes both ways. However, I do know he has met some controversy over a tasteless Jew joke prior to this. Still, just because someone says a bad (albeit racially charged) word or makes a tasteless joke doesn't immediately make them racist. Is it childish, incentive, and inappropriate? Yes, absolutely. But the 'joke' behind what was said about the Jews was not PewDiePie laying out his anti-semetic viewpoint on Jewish people, but rather a "hey, let's make people who can't read English say something horrible." Once again, tasteless and immature, but I don't think worthy of a racist label. Same goes for this slip. Totally inappropriate and completely wrong of him to say, but I don't think his entire viewpoints on race should be judged by something of this caliber. It's not like JonTron who went on those utterly vile Twitter rants that clearly outlined his backwards politics and drew some serious question to comments he's made in the past. All in all, I don't think people should be so quick to assume the absolute worst about PewDiePie; I know this is a great opportunity to do so - especially if you're not a fan of him - but some of this outrage has really been blown out of proportion to what he said.

Same goes to the other side who are defending and attempting to justify what PewDiePie said; it's completely unjustifiable to say (which is why I've been dancing around using the n-word outright), and those who are trying to make a point by using it casually or calling critics of PewDiePie that word are being even worse and just contributing toxicity to the larger gaming community. It's not "just a word" and just because you say it all the time when you're angry doesn't make it okay to say ever. The history of the n-word should not be glazed over and made casual "just because rappers say it." Context is key, and PewDiePie used the word in a derogatory way. Not one that any solid political positions on race (other than insensitivity and unconcern) can be drawn out from, but a terrible word to use nonetheless.

If anyone is angry over this, I'm not trying to say you don't have a right to be; you absolutely do. Like I said, PewDiePie is in the complete wrong here. But I think it's important to accept that sometimes people just fuck up and do something or say something that they should not have. Although words and actions can and should be used to judge one's character, it is important to do so proportional to the offense that has been committed. To me, all this shows is that PewDiePie is an insensitive asshole who contributes to toxicity in gaming, but attacking his character with claims of him being an irredeemable racist is going a bit too far in my mind.

Boogie can claim he's in the middle as much as he wants, but he just isn't. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. He took his side.

He said nigger

he not only said nigger, he said he meant to say asshole and if he wasn't on stream he wouldn't have said it

that means that boy says nigger in his day to day life

nigger. not nigga. not NIGGUH. but N-I-G-G-E-R.

This is one of many fuck ups since his start as a YouTuber.

These idiots who say it's just a word and claim to be in the middle should be forced to watch 12 years a slave and then also read the book and learn about US history.

And then come back and tell all their fans that it's just a word that comes to mind people get angry.

And I know a lot of people agree that it was wrong, but they seem to focus on their opinions about whether he's a racist. The more immediate concerning thing is that he's exposing kids to his fuckery and is ruining their developing minds with his bullshit. His content is a trash and his "I don't give a shit" attitude is beyond pathetic for someone who making millions off millions of young fans.

Boogie is the guy who defended the use of a homophobic slur because the same word is also used as slang for cigarette. Word and thought are not his métier.

Did you watch the videos in the OP?

It's pretty obvious "nigger" has a treasured place in his vocabulary.

You yourself admit that you don;t have a grasp on his actions from the past. Maybe you should read up before condemning people that are actually familiar with Felix's shit.

I agree that using th n-word isn't such a great thing.

However, the hate directed toward people that don't absolutely conform to the "correct way of thinking" makes me really glad Trump won.
So you can treat black people like trash on a oersonal and collective level and you get a slap in the wrist, but God forbid that have any actual consequences in how people perceive you.
And so you're glad a white supremacist sits in the White House, I assume so that he can teach minorities their place.

Argh come on with this wall of text for a bunch of bullshit when you admit you don't know his full history. And if he wasn't an irredeemable piece of shit he would have apologized. You know watching that Seinfeld video with Kramer you can tell just how remorseful he was about his outburst years ago. This guy doesn't give a fuck.

Oh FOH with this bullshit already. The onus is on the person who did the "fucking up" to show that they are contrite and remorseful. The onus is not on anybody else to give him the benefit of the doubt. Fucking tiresome ass take from people like you.

Make it stop.

The reaction to PDP isn't overreacting at all.
He is by far the most influential person in his entire medium, and rivals movie stars like RDJ for the younger kids. He has that much influence. He is held to a much higher standard because of his status with kids.

If RDJ, Jlaw, Chris Pratt, or whoever was in this situation, they would immediately be out of jobs or have contracts terminated, because of their standing in the public.
There is nobody to hold PDP accountable aside from ourselves, because Twitch and YouTube sure as shit won't.

it seemed self aware enough that i gave him the benefit of the doubt

this is a huge bummer though so fuck him. you got to be one some other kind of level to blame someone saying something offensive on the people who were offended

Its self aware and humorous until they become too big and become the thing they make fun of, or more likely were only hiding their true nature until they reach a comfortable living expense.

So he's not a racist, but he's a racist. Cool argument.
Btw think of the impact of this shit in the thousands of children that idolize pewdiepie so you can understand why these reactions are intense.

It is fascinating that you claim to not watch the dude's videos yet you somehow know that he is not a racist.

this reeks of "white person deciding how bad and racist something should be considered."

and for someone trying to say they aren't fence sitting the entire logic and points you build upon in your post are pure apathetic centrist crap.

so he is but he isn't but he is? why not just come out and say you don't think it's that big a deal to drop n bombs? save the mods the trouble.

Unless a reaction to racism is itself illegal, "concern" of this sort about free speech is fundementally insincere. It's a transparent attempt to deflect valid responses to bigotry, by lazily applying terminology that's otherwise culturally important. Criticism against racist words and action is itself valuable speech, and a key piece of social discourse.

I dunno Enzom, maybe we're too quick to label him. -_-

Boogie sounds like Trump "Yea the word is bad, but it's also bad to jump on the guy for a simple word. So there's bad on both sides"

And what's up with these black youtubers trying to defend pew? 😂 "It's just a word" I want them to come live in the deep South and we'll see how much of it is just a word.

When you have large base that is mainly children it is harmful to expose those things to them. Making them think it's okay to say it

I remember when I was a kid (like 13
-ish) and I stubbed my toe or burned my hand on the oven or something I would swear out loud and my mom would reprimand me. I'd argue that I couldn't help it since it was an automatic response to getting hurt. My mom said that if those words weren't in my vocabulary at all they wouldn't come out even in those situations. And I couldn't argue against that because well, she was 100% right. This whole situation reminds me of that.

I've stayed silent on this because it's an absolute shit show and it's sad this is the state our society is in. It sucks being reminded of how far we still have to go.

I don't think racism is ever going to go away. It's always existed and likely always will. I also don't think what pewdiepie did is so easily equated to crap many of us may have said in our younger years. I use to say retarded a lot. I was uneducated. When I got educated, I forced it out of my vocabulary. I read books when I was younger that have the N word in it. I listen to music that freely uses the N word. Yet I know that word is extremely racially charged and offensive to so many it just csnt even be uttered. It's strange listening to a song on the radio that has the word there but beeped put. In many ways its been normalized.

But, it's not really. And often times, the normalized version is the slang version without the hard R.

My fiance's sister throws around the N word like it's "cool". It bothers the hell out of me and I am sure it would bother the hell out of people of color. She means nothing bad by it - she actually uses it as a term of endearment. It's weird.

I also know that a lot of people don't like boogie for various reasons and many hate how he sits in the middle trying to please everyone. I get it.

But I watched his stream. Removing all prior bias, he most certainly condemned racism. That little clip here is cute, but it's missing an awful lot of context.

He doesn't get worked up over language use, but rather the actions. Fine, it sucks, and itz boogie being boogie, but he made it pretty clear how he thinks all racism is wrong.

He just thinks, or maybe hopes, people like my fiance'sister are just dumb. Uneducated and potentislly still have hope to become enlightened on it.

I kinda get it. To the point I'm not mad at boogie for not throwing pewdiepie under the bus.

There is something to say to try and hope the world can be better. In thus case, hope pewdiepie can grow and learn. Too often we juts assume people can't change, or if they do... Just say it's fake.

And no one really knows but that person. I'd like to think no one is too far gone to be enlightened.

As for what should happen to pewdiepie? Google should issue a temporary ban on his channel. For at least a month. Permanent if it happens again. Google for too long has been like what people accuse boogie of. Being in the middle. They want to help advertisers, but still refuse to police Content. The only policing that happens is self taught to maintain ads.

Google should take a stance that this isn't okay on their platform.

But they won't. Because they don't want 57 million people getting pissed. They also are already dealing with some heavy backlash over what looks like the improper firing of an employee for simply asking questions and making observations they didn't agree with. Plus it appears he was shamed over. It.

Google will just not care. Just like they know people will get over the kid they fired. And it sucks.

At times like this, I wish their were regulations. The problem is, I don't trust any know entity to enact proper regulations.

Imagine typing this wall of shit out to say nothing.
Id rather you had typed both sides

And I stopped reading.

Nothing of value to add

Let us follow joe2187 here.
I read to the end and I still think joe2187 has a better take on that shitpost than I would if I replied to the whole message.
I'm not saying I contribute to this thread but at least I'm not throwing shades of both sides like it means anything.
