Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

As someone who has had an Apple Watch since Day One but hasn't even put it on in six months, I have to say... I'm surprisingly excited about what LTE brings to the table.

Yeah as someone who isn't interested in the Apple Watch that much, they finally caught my attention with the cellular data.

If I can't share it with my current plan at no additional cost, though, or at least at a really cheap price, my interest would plummet again.

8+

Same processor as the X
Same GPU as the X
Same rear camera as the X
Same wireless charging as the X
Likely similar battery life as the X since they didn't mention anything
TouchID > FaceID (although TouchID + FaceID would be better)
Extra color

Sounds like a winner to me.

I have a lot of problems with the physical home button and touch ID. a LOT. Even on a replacement phone. I'm welcoming other options.

128 GB is a good middle ground that i use on my 7.

No way i would buy a 64 GB model of a phone for $1440.

or $1652 for a 256 GB model for that matter..

for me the upgrade 32GB to 128GB for $99 extra is worth it
the upgrade from 64GB to 256GB for $149 not

that is my entire point.
i'm still above garbage 32GB, without paying massively extra

Expecting UK iPhone contract pricing to be GBP65/mth for 20GB + a 256GB X on a 24mth contract for zero money down.

I might actually get that. Iphone upgrade pricing is £55 pm for the 256GB because you’re forced to take the £200 AppleCare+, so £10 for a 20GB plan seems ok.

Bet it’ll be more like £75

Is there a reason Apple skipped the naming scheme of iPhone 9? Or is X just used to be flashy and more powerful; like Xbox 1 X?

Maybe a dumb question but did they specify it would have LTE capability? They just said cellular as far as I know, that could be 3G only.

You can now animate emojis with your face, what a time to be alive.

On a serious not, I feel like Android stole Apple's thunder this time with the whole bezel-less deal.

Feeling pretty underwhelmed by all that. I can wait for X launch but is it really worth it? I'm far more tempted by either the 8+ or just sacking off apple and getting a note 8. Only thing holding me back is that I've no experience with android for the past gosh, 5 or so years? And my old impressions weren't that great. 8+ looks quite nice. Difficult decisions but nothing to get hyped about which is a bummer. I'm usually a day one kinda person.

My 6S is still pretty nice tbh but I've got a free upgrade so I might as well use it on one of those 3.

? can you explain ?

HIPPA rules, people think it is okay to transfer patient data over a cell phone network. We got around banning the watches because they had to be tethered to their phones (they can't have them while working). Now that they can just use the watches we will have to band them.

Luckily, all LTE Apple Watches have a super noticeable red dial.

gotcha.

Who knows, probably not, but now you are just nitpicking. Is it so hard to keep the phone close to you as opposed to at the end of your desk? Or on a stand?

It's not nitpicking. It might be an extremely specific scenario but it affects me personally, and many other posters as they've stated above. And I can't keep my phone directly beneath my face on my desk because of the keyboard.

So regarding health....we know that having a phone next to your head or in your pocket all the time without protection causes health problems over time. What about a wireless device like a watch that uses LTE that's so close to your skin? It seems like that can't be safe.

Did apple mention anything about the safety in the conference?

Not a dumb question at all considering I don't know if they called that out, and Apple sometimes gonna Apple. That said, power management wise and just the fact that it's a cutting-edge chip makes it HIGHLY probable it'll be LTE.

And I'm not denying that. To me, it's as if they're not entirely confident about sales of its newer phones.

I think it's more that they realize the "new" phones are pushing into a very high price range, and the smartphone market is getting ever more competitive, so they want to have compelling options for a lower price point. The SE is great, but some people also refuse to buy a phone that small. The 6S gets you a "big" iPhone without paying $700.

Maybe that time is now if it will get them off their asses and stop treating a 3 year-old design as having reached perfection and now stopped trying altogether. Ooh polished stainless steel, glass screen beautifully tucked into bla bla bla stfu.

The only noteworthy thing about this presentation, as with every year, was Jony Ive's heavenly voice describing a crap product.

Fair point, and I thought they should of changed the 7 up last year like they usually do with new numbered releases. That said I was expecting the 7s this year, so the 8 is exactly what I thought the 7s would be this time last year (outside of glass back).

You mean you'll be saving $300.

What
Well when you put it that way... lol.

Honestly I wouldn't mind pay the 300 difference for X, but it feels like a prototype while 8 is more of an obvious evolution.

At the end of the day they are both disappointing, but my Sony Xperia is a piece of shit and I need a new phone.

I wish Nintendo would release their own. Quality and innovation. Yes!

Ummm... where did the red iPhone 7 go? Can't find it on their website anymore...

It gone. Their RED stuff is always more limited run. You can still find it in stores, not sure if it'll get a price drop.

Not been a great days for lovers of iPhone colors, but I suppose 99% of people use cases anyway.

Looking forward to all of the videos showing FaceID being overcome by photos and videos and makeup.

Removing the fingerprint scanner is silly. I'd much rather have my phone unlocked and readable by the time I pull it out of my pocket, than have to look at it first.
