Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

I've decided to say to hell with it in regards to worrying about the most efficient way to get my light level up. I'm just playing the game, exploring all that I can and completing the story at my leisure. I'm light level 236 and have not even finished the story yet. I feel like the game was intended to be played this way... you will advance by doing what you like. Obviously there are more efficient ways to level but in a month its not going to matter anyways.

This was how I played the game to begin with. I did the Adventures as they appeared as I went through the story and wound up finishing it at 252. I hit 281 last night. The guides for how to level up are really only for people that want to get there at the absolute peak speed.

Can you make mods yet? It so, scarp any legendary mods you don't need for mod parts. And click make weapon mods. Try to get kinetic weapon mod to add +5 power. It is rng so it may take a bit, but it's worth it.

I had no idea that you could get one. Great, I'll try my luck.

That's my attitude. Just play for fun.

Just did a quest on Io that was pretty eerie. Again, as I've said before, some of these quests are surprisingly quite interesting.

I'm light level 286 though, so I think I'm more than ready for raiding. Got a pretty tanky build for the warlock with Voidwalker. Attunement of Hunger that allows me to heal to full health from every enemy I kill, and exotic gauntlets that let me heal through melee as well. I shall never die.

Hey guys!

Uff_Duh, DNAbro, R0ckman and I need 2 more for the Raid today! We're gonna be starting somewhere around 2:15EST so if you're available and without a Raid team, please feel free to join us!

PS4 by the way. My PSN is same as GAF.
For the new page: am still free to join:) thats in roughly 2 hrs right?

I can't disagree with the bolded part more. This is entirely subjective. He wants Destiny to be a completely different game. His suggestions basically elude to Destiny being more like Overwatch. Perusing his video history, he even had one titled "Destiny needs Overwatch characters". I don't want that nor do I think it would make Destiny better. It would make Destiny NOT Destiny.

So to tell someone to "stop defending Bungie" when they are enjoying the content...? He's a classic example of the "hey I don't like the thing so no one should like the thing".

I literally mentioned that specific video in my post and how the content was more than just the title.

By "Destiny needs Overwatch characters" he meant he wanted tank classes that felt like tanks, real support classes, real DPS classes, etc. He talks about how these could synergize together and gives a few examples.

It's actually quite a good video and he puts more thought in to his Destiny videos than a lot of the regular Destiny Youtubers do... "Hey lets open some engrams!".

I agree that the aggressive nature is there to drive clicks, but that's just Youtube in a nutshell.

Once you get to 275-ish, you'll get drops at 267/268. At 280, you'll start getting drops around 275-ish. The legendary drops will always be 5-7 light below your current light level.

The answer to that is no. If anything, when you turn in tokens, you're hoping for exotics and legendary gear with +5 mods tbh.

And even exotics can be lower than your max power to the point where it doesn't help at all.

Vender gear will never be higher then yours.

Milestones and sometimes blue drops will help you infuse to higher gear. When you reach 280 it's all about adding mods to your weapons and armor.

So I'm confused on how to get past 270 without it just all being luck base on milestone rewards. All the gear I have right now I'm can't infuse since it says the base power is to low. So what am I missing?

Each location has challenges. These are just like the bounties in D1. Press the map button. Challenges will show up on the screen right side. Challenges reset every day.

So they are tied to events? Do they rotate each day or something? Do you keep the ones that are not complete?

Or does each and every event have its own set of 3 random challenges each day?

I don't think so. I've only got anecdotal proof of my own when I say that I got a much more powerful engram from Hawthorne than I thought possible AFTER I had leveled up a bit more in Light level. Although, I must admit that I hadn't even checked the light level by going to her when the milestone showed that I could turn it in to get the reward. However, I think all "Powerful Gear" milestones can be delayed till you're higher light level. If I'm wrong, someone can correct me, but my own experience aligns with what I said earlier.

I never checked it myself. I always noticed it dropped with a number, assumed it was set, & decrypted it right away.

That seems to not be the case, so I'm going to pay more attention when I get my next clan rewards. Thanks for posting that when you did, if I wouldn't have questioned it I would have continued fucking up. Cheers dude.

Do adventures, normal vanguard playlist strikes, crucible and public events till you get to 265. Do NOT do the following before you hit 265:

1. Pick up Exotic Engram from Zavala.
2. Nightfall.
3. Turn in Crucible Milestone for "Powerful Gear".
4. Pick up Clan Engram from Hawthorne.
5. Treasure hunting through Cayde's maps.
6. Flashpoint.

Save all of these activites till AFTER you're 265.

Why did i not see a post like this before?? Im lvl 263 and have done everything that said not to do lol

BDobbins is aggressively critical, but even as a fan of the game overall, I have a hard time arguing with his points. He expects a lot more out of Destiny than what Bungie is providing, which is reasonable considering the budget behind the game.

One of his videos that launched around the beta was "Stop Defending Bungie", which basically talked about how the game has serious flaws/shortcomings that people should hold Bungie accountable for, but so many people in the community belong to the "Church of Destiny" and will find any reason to dismiss or defend criticism, no matter how valid.

The comments section for that video was full of people doing exactly what he talked about in the video, which was hilarious.

He also wants classes to mean more than they do in Destiny, which I'm 100% on board for. Right now it's basically "what do you want your super and grenade to be", moreso than playing actual useful roles in a fireteam. People seemed to only read the title of that video and before replying instead of listening to the content (it was titled "Destiny needs Overwatch heroes" or something along those lines).

I get why Destiny diehards don't like Bdobbins, but the game would be better with his suggestions.

Nah man Bdobbins is just an attention whore. He has this holier then thou attitude about his opinions, most of which are not that great. If he discussed his opinions without his attitude he would be a lot better for it.

*Unless you're not going to hit 265 before the next reset for the bolded ones. Definitely a major caveat.

I don't care about the fact that he's critical, or dislike him personally, I dislike everything about what he's doing with the format. In fact I hate it. As a result I hate anyone who does it in general (this includes "positive Destiny clickbait" too, agree or disagree), not him in particular. All this stuff you're saying plays exactly into his strategy on YouTube

All of this is by design. He names the video something clickbaity, puts even more controversial phrasing into the thumbnail in huge font, gets you to click, rants for 10+ minutes about something he doesn't like, the algorithm favors his videos. He is leveraging a system to maximize viewership and thus ad revenue.

Even if all of his criticisms were both valid and I agreed with them all (I take major issue with several, and am more sympathetic to others including stuff that has been cited in this thread today), he is negating the value of all of that by playing to the negative preconceptions general audiences may have or, even worse, those that mostly enjoy "hate-playing" games. It's toxic. Even if good content can be found within the clickbait, it is by nature a negative enterprise.

An example of someone who has a lot of criticisms of the game, but offers them constructively and doesn't take part in these tactics would be TheJez, and I think his content is also generally much better for it.
They go up, but will always remain below your gear level so you won't be able to climb with them. It's mostly so you can boost alts higher, or for getting a higher powered weapon in a class you don't have a strong one in to infuse.
Yeah, still useful to get stuff "up to speed," I like it.

Up to 258 now, edging closer to soft cap. Trying to save a lot for 265 though, but had to complete a few milestones just to boost light in a hurry.

Waiting to do any endgame quests or nightfall though, as well as the treasure maps for two worlds now.

You'll be OK. All of those things will reset next Tuesday, at which point you'll be above 265 just playing during the week. I think there's a bit of a miscommunication/disconnect going on between hardcore players giving advice on how to absolutely maximize level, and the more casual gamer taking that to mean the game must be played that way.

Yes, Bronx is right. I probably should have explained better.

So basically, if you're below 265 and you know you can get to 265 WELL BEFORE the reset and can do all these activities, then ignore them till you're 265. Otherwise, if you know that you CANNOT get to 265 before weekly reset on Tuesday, then try to do as many of them as you can (except Point 1). The activities I'm talking about are as follows:

1. Pick up Exotic Engram from Zavala.
2. Nightfall.
3. Turn in Crucible Milestone for "Powerful Gear".
4. Pick up Clan Engram from Hawthorne.
5. Treasure hunting through Cayde's maps.
6. Flashpoint.

Here's a more elaborate post that should help anyone who didn't read the OT carefully:

Ah ok...I did spend a lot of glimmer on the basic pre-280 mods. Was hoping you could get lucky with that.

On the flip side, this means that you'll be able to make a variety of legendary mods when you're able.

Can Destiny 2 physical release for PS4 be resold or is there some kind of access code bundled with the disc?

You should be fine for reselling it. Mine came with a Coldheart code but it's not on the box.

That's putting it mildly.

It's honestly been depressing. I feel like a lot of these new players who have been forced through the Sluice of min maxing are gonna poke their heads up in a week and say "This game is boring, there's nothing to do now."

I didn't watch his video. I've never seen a single video from him. However looking at the titles of his video uploads for every game... he always takes the negative angle for hits.

Which means that his points don't matter. "He has valid points" isn't credible at all because 1. No game is ever perfect and 2. One person's "improvements" is another persons "overcomplications." It's not empirical.

Not for every game...he's an "old school" gamer and really seems to despise the cookie cutter, heavily group tested design philosophy of a lot of modern games. He mentioned that in one of his D1 videos.

He takes an aggressive angle talking about Destiny and Battlefield 1, true. He also seems to genuinely like Overwatch, at least OW competitive.

There are so many things Bungie could do to make Destiny the GOAT, so many of which are low hanging fruit. TBH I'm a bit shocked that D2 is so much "more of the same" rather than pushing things further. I put 1000 hours into D1, so more of the same is great and I love D2. But man, the possibilities are endless if Bungie wasn't being so conservative.

And the "Church of Destiny" thing is spot on. Reddit sub is full of those folks.

Yeah...basically this. Destiny frustrates a lot of people because it's on the cusp of true greatness, but not quite there.

It's the honeymoon phase for D2 right now so you won't find a lot who agree, but it'll start to creep back in coming months.

I was really hoping we'd get the Diablo-like "greater rift" replayable areas in D2, but maybe in a future DLC.

I will be doing this with my alts. I still think it is silly for Bungie to release the raid so close to have people essentially burn through their content and completely ignoring aspects of the game to simply get the power level up as quickly as possible. (Ie Adventures...they obviously put some time into these, yet are completely useless for power leveling).

Ok this is going to sound like such a noob question but i spent 3 hours on the normal strikes last night, so that's about 6 strikes in all. My problem comes with after all that my power level has only increased by 4! the loot that i get from the strikes themselves are always lower and anything i get from Zevala is pretty poor to.

Am i doing something wrong?

What about turning in vendor tokens? Arekkz seem to suggest that he did get some packages over the 265 soft cap.

I think it's sad that people are discounted as fanatics just because they're not bothered by the same things as other people.

What's the motivation behind that kind of reductionism, if you don't mind sharing.

The strike economy is poor right now. You get just as good if not better rewards from pub events. You can bounce around pub events with a loot boost active. Spending an hour doing that vs. strikes.. the pubs will get your more of everything.

You so miss out on vanguard tokens though.
