I love this thing but I have some issues:

- Just a couple games less than what I would have wanted. Specifically, it feels weird to leave out Mega Man X2/X3 and Donkey Kong Country 2/3. (Especially DKC2.) A licensed game like Turtles in Time would have been great too but I understand it's probably a huge pain due to the licensing.

- The controller wire is still far too short. Honestly, I don't think people need cords for nostalgia. These things should be wireless. If that bumped the price up to $100, the thing would still sell out. But even if they didn't do that, at the very least, the controller lords should be super long. I need to look into extensions now, which is silly.

- I appreciate the nostalgia in needing to reset the console to pick a new game. But I don't think anyone would be mad if they added a tiny home button above select and start. Not even so much to switch games but it would be nice if we could easily compare different filters and quickly switch borders.

All that being said, the thing is fantastic. I'm definitely going to get the NES Mini when they announce the 2018 restock for that and I can't wait for the N64 Classic.

(And I hope they also do a Game Boy Classic as well.)

Just unboxed, playing Super Metroid for the first time, it holds up really nicely. The only thing that is different from "modern" games is that it is much slower, and the like 3 second load time between rooms.

The CRT filter is much better on this than on the NES Mini. Enabled it for Final Fantasy III and everything has a slight roundness and blending to it, no longer harsh pixels. Highly recommended.

Agreed. I was using 4:3 at first but high sharpness on the pixels was garish on star fox and yoshis island so switched to CRT. Its nice now on my 40" Bravia

Why do people keep complaining about having to press the reset button when you can just hold START+SELECT+L+R?

Seems like you already can hack the SNES mini with other SNES, Genesis or N64 games if your not scared of using a long way to do it?

That's really just the NES Mini with Retroarch loaded on, flashed on to the SNES Mini.

I think what people really want is the ability to upload games into the SNES Mini's own frontend, which is what we can't currently do.

The only resets the game, it doesn't go to the front menu.

It's some Yok wireless controller. Got it for 20 bucks at GameStop since the cables on the default controllers is only like 5 feet.

Did I accidentally make a fantastic purchase?!

Edit: just tried my normal controller. Didn't work out. So, it appears to be related to the wireless controller I bought. Sorry to anyone I misled! I had no intentions to. :(
I have two of those Yok wireless pads, and I can confirm that pushing both down and select does in fact reset the system. Nice catch!

Been pretty good so far, this is nice for my, personally... I never had a SNES growing up. I had a few friends with them so I got lots of time with some of the quicker style games like Super Mario World, Mario Kart, etc. But longer games or games with saves like Super Metroid, Earthbound, etc, I've never even tried them. I'd say 75% of the SNES Classic offerings are brand new for me.

About the only thing I didn't like so far is the covering over the ports for the controllers. It just seems totally unnecessary and I wish the ports were exposed properly. The NES Classic fit them in perfectly, what I have now on the SNES is a cover that doesn't look great when folded down, and seems pretty flimsy like it will break sooner rather than later.

It's also been a long time since I played a real SNES, but I swear some games like Super Mario World have slowdown where there wasn't before. One of the world 1 stages (the first one with the water and the floating mines), it got pretty bad slowdown when I picked up the invincibility star. I could be wrong, but I never remember things like that in the original.

Still its been a lot of fun so far, I've put a number of hours into Earthbound which I've never tried before and it's been very enjoyable!

Bumped because I got hurried at the bottom of the last page.

Indianapolis is completely sold out. I got screwed yesterday morning at Best Buy in Avon,Indiana(suburb of Indy). Got there at 6:30, waited until 7:15 when they handed out tickets. Was ticket #12 of 14 in line, and they had like 47 systems. Right after they gave us the tickets, they said that we had to stay there, in line, until the store opened at 10. If we left for any reason at all, even just to wait in our cars, we'd forfeit our system. I work for the Avon school district, and there are young minds who's development depends on my being at work at 7:30, so I questioned them on it, saying it's never been like that in the past. They held firm, claiming it was corporate policy, which is clearly is not. As of such, they made me give my ticket back.

A coworker and friend at the school district also works part time at that store. I told him about it, and he went over at lunch to see what happened. They admitted to him that they lied about that, going against corporates' directions on how to do the ticketing, because they didn't want people taking the tickets to another store.

By the time I got my lunch break, Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer, and Gamestop were all sold out in the entire greater Indy area. I'm so upset about it, because I had a freaking ticket in my hand. It should've been mine, had they followed company policy and not gone rogue.

I complained to corporate, but all I got back was a, "we're sorry this happened and will use this info to assess how we can better do rollouts in the future" response, which is just a spit in the face.

Oh ok, you mean this Retroarch is some kind of a different emulator flashed over the original one instead of only new added games?

Ok in that case that's not what I want.

But how about this? This seems native?

My Walmart order, which was supposed to arrive Oct 6, arrived yesterday! Couldn't believe it. Love this thing - what a joy to play MMX again. Also real excited to dive into Final Fantasy 3 - never played it.

Love it so far. One small nitpick I have is with the CRT filter. When playing ALTTP and I get to the room before the throne room in Hyrule Castle (the one with the red carpets) it creates a weird ghosting/warping effect with the statues or objects on the carpet. The effect isn't there in 4:3 or pixel perfect mode. The effect can be reduced and almost eliminated by lowering the sharpness on my tv, but I prefer to have the sharpness up when playing in CRT mode to offset the softening filter. Anyone else experience this?

You’ve gotten my hopes up. I too have a 10/6 delivery. Brb gonna sit by the front door all day.

Do they come with AC adaptors at all?

The box you have on your hands has a huge textbox on it that tells you all of this :)

edit:
I mean, seriously:

Picked up my 3 Minis from the Royal Mail depot. The two friends who I got the console for were waiting outside my flat by the time I got home lol

Quite a ways in to Secret of Mana and just finished Super Mario World:

I love the Pixel Perfect ratio! I don't think there's a product with better value than the SNES Classic this year. I'm going to waste away so many hours with this thing. I've played almost all of these games from beginning to end multiple times but they're all still so replayable.

Man, playing Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on the SNES classic right now and all I can think of is 'I want to play Demon's Crest now', lol

i know. when i am through this thing will be a behemoth of snes classics. i can think of at least 40 games that i need here, demon's crest among them.

shame sega doesn't do the genesis library this kind of justice.

Lol my order history on Walmart says it will arrive Fri 9/29. It didn't even ship until last evening so the actual time is 10/6. got lucky but a reminder to never order from them again...

Yeah that's what I want. There's a handful of games I want to add to this thing and I'm set. I don't want a million ganss/systems on this thing, it just becomes hard to navigate and choose something to play.

Anyone read a good technical article or study on how the SNES Classic emulation performance compares to the best RetroPi / Rasberry Pi 3 Model B SNES emulation?

Bumped because I got hurried at the bottom of the last page.

It is kinda crappy they lied to your face. There isn’t much that can be done at this point. Your best bet now is trying another Best Buy if they do the ticketing again, cause their policy of coming back later helped a lot of folks out to get it later in the day when the lines got thinner. I would scope out what other Best Buy’s did the ticketing better. Lots of posters in here said they had good experiences with Best Buy’s in other states.

Picked up my pre-order yesterday from Smyths. Amazed how tiny it is. Really impressed with and loving the games.

I just need the hack to come along so I can play, Sim City, Pilotwings and Super Tennis!

The slowdown existed on real hardware. Go to 7:00 in this video:

This resets the game but doesn't go back to the menu for me. It's annoying having to go press the reset button every time you just want to go back to the main menu.

I don't know the technicalities but it's good -- it's damn good. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even feel like an emulator when I play. Maybe holding the real controller has something to do with it but blasting through MMX at the 60hz refresh rate feels blazing fast and responsive with 0 input lag you get from any other emulation type Ive used, including VC. No exaggerating, it feels totally different.

Slowdown present in the original games is present here but doesnt detract from the mindblowing insane responsiveness Im feeling.

I wrote off getting an SNES classic this summer because I didnt think Id find one so I settled on using my home theater pc as a substitute in my own mind of sorts and let me tell you, its not even in the same ballpark... Not even close. Its like getting a "new" SNES that displays in HD. Just try it.

I'd use the pixel perfect ratio if it didn't fuck up the proportions on everything.
What's the shortest game of the bunch? Want a smaller game to compliment the meaty RPGs.
Star Fox 2 took me about 45 minutes to play from start to finish.

Yeah, and that doesn't work. I have to be at work at 7:30 every morning, and the next closest Best Buy is about 37 minutes away. If I waited until 7:15 to get a ticket again, I'd be super late to work. Looks like I'll just be boned again, just like I was with the NES Classic. I never even have seen an NES Classic first hand.
