Wireless SNES gaming with the shortcut to return home is amazing. Now the moment we get to add more games to the thing, it will be perfect.

So happy with this beautiful thing.

How is there not even 1 beat 'em up? Seems like a real glaring omission! Sure many of 'em were licensed games but you'd think Final Fight would just like, automatically be there by default. Or better yet Final Fight 2 since it had 2 player! I guess Nintendo really, really wanted Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for some reason...

Awesome! I'm dying to get Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu 3, and a few others on mine.

The Classic is really missing a beat'em up, SNES has lots of great ones: Turtles in Time, Batman Returns, Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, Final Fight 2&3 and more. All great coop games (except the single player only Batman Returns).

Just got mine. I didn't know it didn't come with an AC adaptor, the fuck. Sigh, the one I have is occupied on my phone so I can't play before work today.

We'll be able to add our own soon enough. Can't wait to replay Batman Returns and Turtles in Time.

Anyone else completely in love with the first custom frame option? It's not just a light gradient of color, it's basically Ambilight and will change the frame depending on the current screen's average color. It's super.

Speaking of screen stuff, with the NES Classic I cannot use 4:3 mode because the pixel shimmer during horizontal scrolling (thanks to the non-integer scaling) drives me crazy. I can only use 1:1 (sad thin people) or CRT (which is kind of neat). But on the SNES Classic, for some reason, 4:3 mode doesn't give me the same shimmer. Even though I know it shouldn't be possible when outputting 720p, it actually looks like each column of emulated pixels is actually getting the same amount of native pixels. What magic is this? There's no smeary bilinear filter going on.

My wife is sad that Mystical Ninja wasn't kept on the US release—it was apparently the one game she was really looking forward to and she only ever read the JP release list. Oh well, we'll just play Secret of Mana for the fourth time. :)

Yep! Started using it last night, it's awesome and for some reason it reminds me of the Super Gameboy.

How are you doing wireless?

Snes30 and sfc30 controllers from 8bitdo paired with their retro recievers for the nes classic updated to the newest firmware that gives compatibility with the snes classic. I tried it out and I can't notice any lag. To go back to the home screen takes a tap of the down direction and select. It's amazing.

Updated my 8bitdo receivers and now my SNES30 and NES30 work great with the snes classic. You can also reset the console by pressing select and down.

Are you using this receiver?

Reviews were complaining about lag and connection. I want to make sure I get the right receiver with the right controller so I can experience similar wireless Classic goodness.

Should've had Final Fight.

Don't suppose anyone ever hacked the original to include Guy and 2 players?

Yeah thats the right receiver, haven't had any issues with the 2 that I have.

That's the one. With the new update I don't see any lag, it feels really good.

Oh God yes.

You can plug it into a USB slot on a console or TV if that's available.

I had fun with battletoads & double dragon

He started Lion King. Looks good.

Worth noting it wasn't running natively just yet. It was using Retroarch to boot.

Summary for those who don't speak Russian:

Opened a brand new SNES Classic
Disassembled it
Soldered the UART connections to a set of wires to the outside of the case
Connected it to serial
Plugged it into the PC and connected to console via PuTTY
Dumped the original kernel
Loaded a custom kernel
Logged into the console via the PuTTY connection
Browsed some of the system files, viewing some of the screenshots
Compared the header information from the ROM on the SNESCE for Super Mario World to a ROM file on his computer
Noted that there are 48B at the beginning of the header on the ROM on the SNESCE that are there in addition to the standard ROM header on the file on his computer (this seems to be a header from the Virtual Console version of the ROM)
Copied the contents of the folder for SMW and began making changes to try to get The Lion King working
Copied the Lion King ROM to the SNESCE
Got a C7 error when launching it the first time
Copied the 48B header from the SMW ROM on the SNESCE to the Lion King ROM
Still got C7 when launching after patch
Installed both Retroarch and SNES9X HMODs over to the SNESCE
Was able to launch the game via Retroarch/SNES9X, but C8 error on exit

I read online that you can use the SNES classic's included controllers wirelessly by pairing a Wiimote to the 8bitdo receiver. Has anyone here tried that setup, and if so how does it feel?

it would make sense that that would work. Don't have a wiimote to check unfortunately.

I know it's early in the game, but that doesn't seem like a very encouraging result for people who were hoping they could add games to the existing structure/emulator.

I guess the 48 bytes in the header are a key of sorts, and that'll need figuring out.

And it seems it's different for each game, as Mario World's didn't allow Lion King to run.

Recommendation Request!

Back in the SNES days I mainly used it for SF2, Chrono Trigger, and Zombies ate My Neighbors. The games were so expensive that I missed a lot of the greats.

I am leaning towards Metroid, then Zelda. Castlevania and Mega Man after that. Good plan?

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I know absolutely nothing about what it takes to hack this thing and put more roms on(thought I will absolutely need to do it). Do you need to get extra equipment? How hardcore is the process?

Metroid, Zelda & Megs are three of the best. I'm not a massive fan of vania 4 (it's good but way too easy). If you like RPGs, Super Mario RPG is very fun. Super zany game.

Should be relatively easy. All you will need is a windows pc. The nes mini version was very straightforward.

Are these the consensus best options for wireless for the foreseeable future? The wired setup is basically undoable for me with my current living room. Nintendo and their fucking baby cords.

Can't go wrong there.

SG&G is fantastic. REALLY loved the game back then even though it was challenging as hell. It might be my most played so far. Then again, I haven't dove in to much of the other games just because I don't want to get stuck playing too many at once.

If it ends up like the NES classic, all you need is a USB, PC and the custom program and that's basically it.

On the US/EU consoles I don't think there are a single bad game in the lot. F-Zero is a little slight and Star Fox is super dated at this point (Star Fox 64 is basically a straight remake of Star Fox, but with a good framerate and more meat on the bones) -- but the other 19 are unqualified recommendations IMHO. If you have a Japanese console I'd also skip Super Soccer, which is a pretty weak launch-ish title.

The one thing I'd say about your plan is that you have three action platformers (Metroid, Castlevania, and Mega Man). You might benefit from mixing it up a bit if you're eventually going through all the games. :)

I'm going to get shot, but Kirby's Dream Course is the elusive "bad game" on this thing.

I've played it in the past and never got in with it, and tried again just now. Level 1 was fine, but then level 2 things went to crap and then I fell off the edge. It and I just don't get on, and I hate it.

SMW is LoROM and 4Mbit, Lion King is 24Mbit and HiROM. Those things and more (probably a checksum of some sort) would likely get stored in the header, so yeah. No reason to fret at this point.

Really?? I guess I'm confused about how you actually connect to the inside of it since there's only a video output and a power input. That's pretty cool though.

When the program comes out, the link method should be the usb cable that came in the box that you're using for power.

This is a new additional 48 bytes ahead of standard headers that is purely for ROMs on here, though.

But you're right, there's no reason to fret, it's not going to be so tricky that everyone gives up.
