I ended up putting the player 1 receiver inside the machine, I couldn't fit player 2 in there too :/

I mostly play single player so it's not a big deal. Looks so much cleaner when you're playing the thing and the front flap is closed.

Much better.

is this staright forward to do, im considering modding my UK SNES this way, i guess the inside will be tighter tho due to the shell difference. is it simple as pluging connectors or do you need to cut/solder?

Because some games accounted for the 4:3 stretching and designed their art in consequence?

Which one looks more correct to you? The one with the oblong moon (pixel perfect) or the one with the round moon (4:3)?

Yeah, I get what you mean. But in that comparison, I still would choose pixel perfect cause the other one looks like blurry shit. ^^

If it's only one element and not everything that looks strange I'm fine with it.

Thanks! Ouch Amazon says December 10?

That's for the new controller/receiver combo made specifically for the SNES Classic. You can buy their old controllers and the NES receiver and they work great. Going this route will be a bit more expensive, but unlike the new bundle, you can connect more than just SNES controllers to the receiver. The new receiver only connects to the controller that comes with it.

It's was braindead easy, i opened up the machine, took out the player one plug, plugged in the retro receiver and just gently put it in the gap between the motherboard and the case. Closed it up and started playing.

I thought I'd have to take the plastic case off the receiver, you actually don't even need to do that. The whole thing fits in the case without issue.

Like you said, I'm not sure if the european model will have enough clearance for it. If it's tight i would suggest just removing the case on the receiver.

Is this the old one?

People should probably ease up on acting like a little bitch over a sold out rom box.
After all of the lying, disappointment, and completely failing to gauge market demand once again, it's fine for people to be very upset. This is the most in demand product Nintendo has and yet its so scarce. It's still a limited run product for some reason too. Its harder to look at this situation with apathy than it is to react wondering wtf is going on.

Pump the brakes, fam!

So I started FFVI and got to Figaro Castle, and wow. With the CRT filter on, the brick towers are SO much more rounded than in sharp pixel mode. It's basically this image that floats around:

FBiFBTq.jpg

It's not quite as extreme as the one on the right, but it's closer to that than the mess on the left. I love it!

The devs used the CRTs to their advantage often.

They didn't really though. What in demand product can you readily find available days after its release date? Have they discontinued it already? It's not even close to the same situation as the NES Classic.

sweet i am gona give this a go. thanks!

Got the master sword in Zelda and beat SF2 with Ryu yesterday. Zelda is still as great as ever. It's just so streamlined, and the soundtrack is incredible.

This was truly the best gaming era. And maybe throw in a bit of the one afterwards up to the end of 1998. I'd be happy never playing another game beyond that year.

“Failing to gauge market demand. “

Bit premature, don’t you think? There were more units at launch than the entire NES run, and they’ll be shipping them for the rest of the year.

I know that in your perfect consumer world, everything you could ever want can be available right now the second you want it, but that’s not realistic.

They know there’s demand, they’re trying to keep up
without saturating the retail channels with unsold product. There are TONS more people who had success buying one compared to the NES classic. Give it time.

So really there is no reason not to get this version? The images only show the controller, what does the receiving part look? It would be awesome to do what you did with installing it inside the SNES classic.

No reason to go with the preorder one (all grey) that I can think of right now. The older SNES clone looks more authentic, works great, and can be used on a VARIETY of platforms (including switch, raspberry pi, etc) whereas it seems that “newer” one is only made to work with the nes/SNES dongle.

The big test with availability is with the restocks.

I don’t recall seein any last year before Black Friday.

If there’s another big wave this weekend, it’ll say a lot.

You also need to factor in that if I’m Best Buy I don’t have the room to stock 1500 of these at launch.

I also want people in my store every weekend rather than just once.

I’d rather get 200 per week.

Pretty much the attitude I had with the NES Classic. Until months went by and I still never saw one in stores. And then Nintendo announced they were discontinued.
Okay, then go fucking crazy over an emulator box when Nintendo doesn’t deliver as promised then.

Guess what wasn’t promised: that everyone would get one on launch day. Again, just like every consumer electronics device made in the last 10 years.

I see no evidence that Nintendo has screwed the pooch. Yet.

Crap that is awesome. I wonder if I should get another pair for 2 player games. Hrm, but then I will not really want to put it inside the SNES classic if I ever find one.

I have 2 sets myself, one SNES controller and one SFC controller. Like you said, if you have 2 you can always hook up the second one to the NES Classic if you find one. Putting one of these inside the SNES classic is the way to go, looks so much nicer than having the flap open and a massive receiver sticking out.

No one would realistically deny Reggie being an absolute piece of shit (I know 'cunt' is what was used and even then I wouldn't disagree), but the raping reference was a little extreme.

Regardless, for those who got one, I'm glad you are enjoying yours.

Absolute piece of shit?

What the hell is wrong with you people?

That’s fine. It IS very nice looking. just not for me. I swap between nes and SNES classic. And I don’t like the idea of losing the port for regular use. What if my controller battery dies and I wanna play wired?

Also, what if (as sometimes happens...like it did to me last night) the receiver and controller lose their pairing and I have to resync? Don’t wanna have to reopen it for that kind of stuff. Just a personal preference. I don’t mind seeing that dongle too much.

Videogames is serious business.

i'm very critical of Nintendo and was pissed about how they handled the NES classic, but they did a good job with this launch. There were tons of systems released and they're making lots more into 2018. People that really want one should be able to get one eventually.

Yeah, that's true. There are good arguments for not putting the receiver inside the box.

What’s with the extreme Reggie hate? Demand was insane. Over 100 people showed up at the Target I got mine from at opening. They’ll keep making them, calm the fuck down.

My Walmart order has been stuck on prep wiring order forever now. I somehow doubt it will be here by Tuesday, like it says.

And I hope they all do.

Except for the people throwing tantrums. May they forever be just a minute too late.

I got mine, just saying Nintendo so far has not demonstrated in any way that they shouldn't be treated with hostile scepticism. They botched preorders like the NES Classic, they did not have enough stock to satisfy launch demand like the NES Classic, and so far we've only received vague assurances that they'll produce them into the following year...like the NES Classic.

I hope they get their shit together, and the people who want one will be able to buy one before they're discontinued...like the NES Classic.

Absolutely. I swap back and forth.

Which is the one for the NES? I am debating getting a second set.

Hey bud. Not sure if you heard. NES classic is coming back next year. It’s going to be ok. Electronics are hard to get at launch. This isn’t anything new, and isn’t just a Nintendo problem. Maybe just calm down, and enjoy some retro games....like the NES classic.

Well the same receiver can plug into both the NES and SNES classic, as it’s the same port.

As for the controller, that’s up to you. They also sell NES lookalikes (or close to it..). But I just play my nes games with the SNES controller.

I'm well aware it's coming back, but that's the problem it never should have went away in the first place. Demand was still there, scalpers were still selling them at 500% markup, but Nintendo decided to treat it like the fucking McRib.

The SFC30 with a second NES Retro Receiver.

I don't own an NES mini though, couldn't get one last year. Will pick one up when they re-release them next year.

Okay last (maybe) dumb question.

What is the difference between the SFC30 and SNES30 that I just bought? Should I just double up the SNES30 and the 8Bitdo Retro Receiver for NES Classic Edition?

I was lucky and got the NES Classic when it released. I had the day off (holiday in my state) and just decided to give it shot.

Managed to snag an international pre-order many months back. Wish I could’ve gotten my hands on the North American model I’m used to, but beggars can’t be choosers. Still have about two weeks before it arrives too.

Still haven’t been able to find an NES Mini at a reasonable price lol

I think the only difference is the color of the buttons. SFC has the multicolor buttons and SNES has the purple.

I have two SNES30s and two retro receivers for one and two players. And I swap them between my NES and SNES classics.

Internally it's the same, one is just styled after the north american SNES pad and the other the SFC pad.

slowly getting my skills back, I just ran through the first level of Contra without dying. I think I used up a continue the first few times I tried lol, but fuck that 2nd level with the top view and odd camera controls, I got dizzy playing that shit after 2 minutes. Doesn't help when I'm sitting so close to a 55' TV thanks to the short cord. I have no idea how I beat this game when I was younger.

I wish I could get my beat'm-up fix on the SNES Classic, it was such a great era for that genre.

So lets say I want two gamepads. Can they switch easily between receivers or would I have to physically move them? Especially it you put it internally?

I’m not 100% on this, but I assume each receiver can only be paired with one controller. I don’t think you could have two different retro receivers internally in two different classic units and use the same controller for both without re syncing (needing a button push).

My Walmart order has been stuck on prep wiring order forever now. I somehow doubt it will be here by Tuesday, like it says.

At this point I'd settle for it actually shipping in the next couple of weeks, but apparently they automatically cancel if they can't fulfill within a week from the original promised ship date. So that's fun.

You can re-pair them to different controllers or physically move them. If you put it internally it will make it a pain to re-pair or use wired controllers. With the receiver i put in my SNES Classic, it's going to be in there permanently and paired to my SNES30 controller. Not going to mess with it unless there is a major firmware update.
