An M60 has a very distinct low rate of fire. Given that we know they found several different rifles, the gun report is of a higher cyclic rate, and there's obvious pauses for reloads or switching weapons, your speculation seems pretty wild.

You keep using that word. Its just speculation I have seen, not my personal opinion.

Tax cuts are priority. Not gun policy.

Fight among yourself plebs.

Oh, thoughts and prayers!
Actually, gun policy is on the agenda.

There are currently two gun bills moving through the House:

The House could pass legislation as early as this week that would roll back decades-old restrictions on gun silencers, opening up the market for a device that critics say would make it difficult in a mass shooting to detect where gunfire is coming from.

The House is also expected to move this fall on separate legislation that would allow people to carry their legally concealed weapons across state lines into jurisdictions, such as California, that tightly restrict weapons concealment.

Work up and saw the news. Was in Vegas in July. RIP and best wishes to those wounded. Will we ever know the motive of this attack?

This is incredibly heart breaking. I send my condolences to all the victims' family and friends. Though I feel that my words are pretty insignificant to the weight of the grief they are feeling right now. There's nothing I can say change the horrors they are facing.

To add on to this tragedy, it's also tragic by the knowledge that nothing will come of it. People will suffer and nothing will change for the better. In fact, it may become worse with more states feeling to legalize open carry.

America is fucked beyond belief when it comes to gun control, and no matter how many people die our leaders refuse to think rationally and actually do something about it.
No matter how much we literally beg for more strict regulations it always falls on deaf ears and the people who could enact change and actually save lives refuse to do anything about it.

This graph is VERY alarming --- what's strange is that gun technology hasn't gotten THAT much better over the past 10-20 years..............so what has changed? Why are things ramping up almost exponentially in recent years? There hasn't been this amazing leap in gun tech, right?

The graph is not sorted by date, but by death toll.

It would take time mobilize and respond to something like that. Innocent civilians and local police would be in the line of fire first.
Surely military commanders can devise a strategy to minimize this. We're not talking with powerless people here.

Every excuse thrown around just sounds like that onion article "Nothing could have been done to prevent this, says the only country in the world where this happens".

Is it bad that part of me is kind of hoping they find this monster's house and find a bunch of Nazi paraphernalia? Because sad as it sounds, that's the only way Trump is going to act on white supremacists.

According to Reddit that Suppressor Bill is essential for safety. Otherwise someone firing dozens of rounds a minute from their modified AR-15 into a crowd of concertgoers could suffer hearing loss. The real victims here.

/s if that wasn't 100% obvious

Reminds me of a guy who just casually walked into my store the other day, wearing cargo shorts, some generic shirt, sandals, and a fucking Glock strapped to his hip. VA is open carry, so there was nothing illegal about it, but he could have just decided to kill me or anyone else in the store at a moments notice and there wasn't a single thing anyone there could do about it.

Don't be too sure.

"I'm sure some of those dancers were bad people."

There is no new low.

49 killed in Pulse in 2016 - Worst mass shooting in US history

50+ killed in Las Vegas 2017 - Worst mass shooting in US history

Watching Fox News live stream (I know I know) and they seem to be just in awe of how "skilled" and "diabolical" this guy is. They even compare him to Islamic terrorists and how it's much harder to pull off what this guy did. In a sort of twisted way it really sounds like they're bragging about how much better white criminals are.

Anyone else get this odd feeling?
Not just Fox News. Steve Innskeep of NPR was talking in hushed tones about the "power" guns can give one man.

America's culture of violence is toxic, top to bottom.

Man, the images are like something out of a Rainbow Six level.
406 injured, gunman had eight guns in the room he was shooting from. (Sky news)

I'm on your side man, im all about banning them and prosecuting anyone who didn't comply. But we have a sickness in this country that would result in things getting a lot worse before they got better, if the government went that far. It's too far in the eyes of a lot of sick, gun-obsessed people out there.

If we had a competent government that actually cared, there'd be somewhere we could start that would be safe and effective. But we cant even get that far.

So on CNN the police said there is no known motive but how is terrorism already ruled out? It’s domestic terrorism at the very least.

RIP to the victims, but certainly this is the time to debate gun control. Automatic weapons should be banned, semi automatic even.

It seems like the numbers just keep going up each year.

Who said it's ruled out? So far there just doesn't seem to be an indication that it has ties to terrorism, but that doesn't mean ruled out.

You assume the military would go along with it. If they were ever tasked with disarming the populace, I guarantee some would mutiny.

Yeah.. gun laws might not stop mass shootings/murders. Nothing probably will..

What it will help prevent? Those random shootings when people who get pissed off because their job fired them, their SO cheated on them, or they are just mad as hell and having a bad day and want to take it out on someone.

One of these days, something will change because of this.

That's what people said when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated, only five years afer his brother. And it has only getten worse over the past fifty years.

As Obama has said in April 2008: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

It is not only about guns, it is about much more for many people. That's why politicians are afraid to call for a stricter gun regulation.

These numbers are horrifying. I’m not proud that I had grown kind of numb to terror attacks and shootings, but this is something else.

RIP to the victims and I sincerely hope the tally won’t increase. Special thought for the hundreds who will have to live with the physical and mental scars left by this monster.

I didn't realize he was shooting from his room until a few mins ago when I was reading the full article.

Crazy they were able to pinpoint him and get in as soon as they did.

RIP

I can't even wrap my head around that being an accepted way of life. Standing their doing your job and wondering about that guy with the gun the entire time.

More good guys with automatic weapons to stop bad guys with automatic weapons of course!

What did you say? This guy had no criminal record? Oh no, the good guys are fucking capable of slaughtering a hundred people in a matter of minutes as well? Shocked.

Few new things from NBC (no link, heard on TV)

- Shooter was frequent visitor to Las Vegas
- Shooter shot himself, was dead when they entered

You assume the military would go along with it. If they were ever tasked with disarming the populace, I guarantee some would mutiny.

Yup, people need to realize that a large portion of the military is from the south and would not attack their own people. You want a civil war, like a real one? Then try to grab guns. The mutinies would be rampant, police would turn on government and it would be middle of the country vs both coasts.

Who do think is going to win that after your military is split in half? Are you ok with carpet bombing Americans?

My guess is room neighbors heard the fire and called front desk. Would have been loud as fuck in a tiny hotel room.

20 little kids got murdered in their school and nothing happened then.

Nothing will happen now.

America loves having guns more than it loves people not getting murdered by guns.

America has accepted thousands of gun-related deaths a year as a price worth paying for the opportunity for thousands of more gun-related deaths to happen the year after.

Yeah and the 'answer' to less gun related kills is somehow not making sure that guy cannot carry a weapon, but to have everyone carry one.

I feel so awful for the man in Arkansas falsely , but confidently, accused of doing this, citing his like for Rachel maddow show as sole evidence .

People are fucking awful

tried to make a comment, realized it was pointless half way.

So I'll just say, RIP to all victims and my condolences to their families...

I presume Trump will take to Twitter soon to denounce this as an act of Christian terrorism?

I'm surprised he's not talking about the historic nature of this event, the biggest in history etc like he did with the hurricanes.

I bet someone took his phone.
