Reminds me of a guy who just casually walked into my store the other day, wearing cargo shorts, some generic shirt, sandals, and a fucking Glock strapped to his hip. VA is open carry, so there was nothing illegal about it, but he could have just decided to kill me or anyone else in the store at a moments notice and there wasn't a single thing anyone there could do about it.

Not to mention some NRA fucktard would say that he's following his 2nd amendment rights.

I didn't realize he was shooting from his room until a few mins ago when I was reading the full article.

Crazy they were able to pinpoint him and get in as soon as they did.

RIP
Yeah, the people in the crowd didn't stand a chance, literally like shooting fish in a barrel.

Do you think a group of rednecks is gonna be anything more than a nuisance to THE US Army?

You don't, you do it as a voluntary thing, then prosecute everyone in possession of one after the fact. It's the same methods used when peace treaties are achieved.

So. Does this magical voluntary thing, operate on the honor system? Or do you want mandatory police searches of every home?

You are simplifying this to comical proportions.

I mean, am I unreasonable to want to cancel my flight to Vegas because of this?

US and mass shootings, I can't swallow the reality of that.

RIP
It isn't, even with zero safety concern, general atmosphere in the city and post crisis precautions measures may not make the best destination for a tourism trip(assuming it's a tourism trip).

Basically. That's what happened in Aus. Didn't work 100%, obviously, but most were surrendered.

Every now and again the police will say "Hey guys, it's a surrender weekend. Call us about an unregistered gun on your property and we'll come and take it, no charges (Unless they find it was used in a crime etc)."

What in the fuck... Definitely was not expecting to see something like this all over when I woke up.

RIP to all the victims and I hope the remaining injured are ok.

Bull

Take your vacation man. You have to enjoy life despite its tragedies.

I presume Trump will take to Twitter soon to denounce this as an act of Christian terrorism?

More than likely I'm starting to think the angle will be on mental illness, and this will be the impetus to call for a return to mental health facilities and asylums.

And speaking as someone living with depression, social anxiety disorder, moderate bipolar, and mild autism, it was nice knowing you guys :(

Cannot fathom somebody doing this. Unimaginable terrible shit. From 32?? floors up? How and why can one person cause this much destruction?

Hmm. Just no.

For a second I wondered who Michelle Trump was and then I got really sad.

Who said it's ruled out? So far there just doesn't seem to be an indication that it has ties to terrorism, but that doesn't mean ruled out.

Yeah, people need to be careful what they type and say. So far, the only thing I've seen is that there's no connection to international terrorism.

Few new things from NBC (no link, heard on TV)

- Shooter was frequent visitor to Las Vegas
- Shooter shot himself, was dead when they entered

That's interesting as the NBC News website says the police fatally shot the man. Gonna go double-check their FB.

EDIT: Looks like they initially got the info wrong as, yes, Pete Williams did say the gun shot wound was self-inflicted: https://www.facebook.com/today/videos/10155759472221350/

I'm surprised he's not talking about the historic nature of this event, the biggest in history etc like he did with the hurricanes.

I bet someone took his phone.

"This was a great event, the biggest."

...

"Hey, I didn't mean great as in good!"

If its for fear of safety..... youll be fine. Even if your flight is like tomorrow Id be hard pressed to imagine all casinos in the area closing down. Perhaps the Mandalay and such but big cities tend to be resilient after mass shootings like this and things will "be back to normal" sooner rather than later.

It's too bad we can't sue those in power for negligence when it comes to their refusal to prevent these events by enacting stricter control and regulations.

Let’s see if the American populace comes out with the same passion for gun legislation after this horrible tragedy as they had for NFL players peacefully protesting by taking a knee.

Disrespecting our flag!

Let me ask, what is it that makes America great?

Jesus Christ...

Seeing the numbers... it’s worse than I could have ever imagined. My thoughts are with the victims :(
Don't forget Trumps first act was to undo the obama rules that made it harder (but not impossible) for mentally unstable people to buy guns.
Imagine the shit storm if this “very fine gentleman” managed to get this kind of fire power thanks to Trump opening the way for him.

So this loon stood on the balcony of his hotel room and shot from a distance at the concert across the street? It looks at least a few hundred metres away according to Google Maps. Mental. That's quite some distance.

Wouldn't work even if the political spectrum was united in wanting that.

Would end with thousands of shootouts and STILL wouldn't work.

Let's try it out.

Maybe scores of people will stop dying exponentially for no reason at all.

Or maybe you have more logistic complaints? More reasons why it "would never work?" More protesting action in the face of horror?

But did Australia such an insane obsession with guns as America does? I don't think it would work the same way unfortunately.

Doesn't matter what they find. He's white so it's going to be 'lone wolf' regardless.

And sometimes it is lone wolf. I suggest waiting until we get more information before installing your preconcieved notions.

On August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman, a former Marine sharpshooter, took rifles and other weapons to the observation deck atop the Main Building tower at The University of Texas at Austin, then opened fire on persons indiscriminately on the surrounding campus and streets. Over the next 96 minutes he shot and killed fifteen people including one unborn child and injured thirty-one others; another victim died in hospital and the final victim died from the lingering effects of his wounds in 2001, and his death was ruled a homicide. The incident ended when police reached Whitman and shot him dead.

Before going to the campus Whitman had killed his mother and wife. It has been suggested that his violent impulses, with which he had been struggling for years, were due to a small tumor found in his brain on autopsy.
