But did Australia such an insane obsession with guns as America does? I don't think it would work the same way unfortunately.

We certainly loved them. Almost every male family member I know over 45-50 had a gun before the ban. Some of them kept them and de-milled them though.

Maybe it wouldn't work 100% instantly, but steps need to be taken.

Even if the president and every single elected politician agreed, it would have 0 chance of happening.

Registries are largely non existent outside of the most extreme shit.

There are already 250-300 MILLION guns in the states. Yes 250-300 million as of 2013 (pew research link at bottom).

Even the most strict draconian methods of eliminating gun ownership in the states would be a fucking violent shit show where trigger happy police would have a fucking field day.

This isn't to say I'm not for much stricter rules.
- If your gun is stolen and used in a crime and there's evidence it was out of your possession/theft is unreported for 48+ hours you're an accomplice.
- Anyone who living in your household uses your gun in a crime you share in the charges, 100% your fault if someone unstable or a child gets a hold of it.
- Mandatory multi-week gun safety classes for any first time purchaser.

I get thats its the American way and part of the constitution and all that, but something has to chang, it has too.

Dunblane: How UK school massacre led to tighter gun control

You can do this, you just have to want too.

The certification letter for one of the several devices that convert a gun into one that can be fired faster than a finger can twitch,

Clearly the definition of a machine gun (which is banned) was not well thought out.
A machine gun should be defined as a gun that can fire - no matter via what mechanism - without continuous finger movements, instead the definition is a gun that requires only a single activation of the trigger.

By inventing a device that shakes the gun against the finger they have made a joke of the legislation.

Let’s see if the American populace comes out with the same passion for gun legislation after this horrible tragedy as they had for NFL players peacefully protesting by taking a knee.

Disrespecting our flag!

Let me ask, what is it that makes America great?

Nothing. It's the same old ancient glorification of nationalism and tribalism, now with global ramifications thanks to technological advancements made possible by an initial attempt at a democratic government and free market.

Lone Wolf wtf ? But when it's a muslim he's a terrorist?... My condolences for all the lives lost and i pray for the people that were hurt to be healed

Bullshit, guns were not that widespread in Australia even before the ban. They were still rare.

How do you get 10+ rifles into a hotel? I mean surely someone would notice that unless you doing it in multiple trips but even then that looks odd.

Any word on the the female partner of this man? I think I heard that she may have been in the crowd, watching the concert as well?

Hope this Is not some fucked up shit like that? Man loses his shit over a woman?

Sounds highly unlikely though, due to his older age and the fact that he was thoroughly prepared to do this horrific act! with all the weapons found and preparation in his hotel room

Basically. That's what happened in Aus. Didn't work 100%, obviously, but most were surrendered.

Every now and again the police will say "Hey guys, it's a surrender weekend. Call us about an unregistered gun on your property and we'll come and take it, no charges (Unless they find it was used in a crime etc)."

Different culture regarding guns. I want them completely gone save for hunting. The numbers we are talking about are astronomical. Do you really expect some rich asshole to surrender his multi-million dollar gun collection, happily over the weekend?

They just announced she is out of the country so she was never with him. Explains the oddity before of why they didn't know if they found her for sure and just thought so. They would have been dealing with foreign police bringing her in. Impressive how fast they found her out of the country unless she saw her face on the news and went to the police herself in whatever country she is in.

Let's try it out.

Maybe scores of people will stop dying exponentially for no reason at all.

Or maybe you have more logistic complaints? More reasons why it "would never work?" More protesting action in the face of horror?

Its not exponential.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u....able_8_murder_victims_by_weapon_2010-2014.xls

While its true that terror attacks are happening at an increased rate, likely do to the sensationalism in the media of each one leading to copy cats or "Glory killers", gun related homicide has been going down even as of late. The most gun murders are actually shootings with pistols by a large amount. More people are killed by knives, fists or blunt objects every year than rifles.

Absolutely something needs to be done, but I just get the impression that Australia's attitude to guns was never as zealous as America's. I could be wrong on that.

I didn't choose that word carefully.

Crazy that no one found suspicious that this guy owned so many rifles

That's known as "patriotism" here.

Only a gun? I knew a guy who, once all his children reached adult age and moved out, turned one of his vacant bedrooms over to his dozens (hundreds?) of guns. Real gun nuts can arm a milita single-handedly.

How many of the performers at this concert are "NRA Country" featured performers? At least one.

The NRA has, year over year, seeded cultural warfare. What happens when their sponsored violence meets their sponsored entertainment?

Bullshit, guns were not that widespread in Australia even before the ban. They were still rare.

I'm just speaking from personal experience and statements from family, friends, my local police and detectives etc. No need to get aggressive.

Absolutely something needs to be done, but I just get the impression that Australia's attitude to guns was never as zealous as America's. I could be wrong on that.

Oh absolutely, it's not really genuinely comparable. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good start though.

If this does not lead for a push of gun control I will be pissed. Even though I do not live in the States something truly needs to be done. The 2nd amendment needs to be either rewritten or abolished entirely. I feel only the army and law enforcement should have access to sniper rifles and assault rifles, not Joe Schmoe American.

Yup, people need to realize that a large portion of the military is from the south and would not attack their own people. You want a civil war, like a real one? Then try to grab guns. The mutinies would be rampant, police would turn on government and it would be middle of the country vs both coasts.

Who do think is going to win that after your military is split in half? Are you ok with carpet bombing Americans?

I'm friends with one of the captains for the local police department, and he said if they were ever tasked with removing guns from civilians they would either defy the order or quit. I was shocked but not shocked.

Asking America ban gun is like asking Israel move out of West Bank. It will never happen. I am sorry for the deceased. But there is really nothing you can do. Buy more life insurance that's pretty much it. Me and my wife was at Vegas last Nov. This could have happened to us. There is nothing you or I can do.

In case I didn't make myself clear, yes I am in complete support of gun ban.

It's simply a numbers game, with 300+ million guns it is simply impossible unless you want to pay for and allow the government to allow trigger happy police to literally search every property in America (which still wouldn't be enough).

Would it not seem odd though if someone kept going out and coming back with their suitcase?

There are hundred's of legitimate or weird but non violent reasons why someone would do that.
