sure, and he could also have been mind controlled into doing it by the tripods that live on the moon why in the hell would you dive straight into birdbrain conspiracy theories?

Totally it'd be great if people could just kill themselves...wait the fuck?

Gun control also massively decreases suicides by firearm. When a gun is right there and readily available people are going to kill themselves. When they, in your crackpot scenario, have to order the various pieces online and play legos to get them together, they don't buy them in the first place.

Not saying this is specific to this situation, but what says someone doesn't already have a dozen guns he inherited <100 years ago?

Anyway, what's "wait the fuck?" Did you mean "wait, the fuck?" Can't tell with grammar...

Yes, that happens. Maybe not that many but that number may still go up since the injured count is very large.
Wouldn't suprise me if it goes up to 100 after everything's said and done. Just think: 100 people. By one man. It's times like this where I really hope Hell is real.

Even the shooters brother had no idea how he got a weapon like that. We need regulation now.

This here alone is a great argument for gun control and regulation...

Even if you choose to buy a hang gun, and not even a semi-automatic rifle.. I Think there shoudl be a law where you get at least 3 members of your family/relatives to bare witness to your purchases etc.

Not that it'd change much at this point but really no reason behind the shooting other than straight senseless violence or did they have some kind of update on motives? Shit's horrifying to think the guy did it on a whim.

It's really hard to fathom how someone could be in such a mental place where shooting innocent people from 32 floors away could ever make sense.

It's truly senseless and beyond disturbing.

Schools, movie theaters, chuches, night clubs, and now open-air concerts, where countless individuals are getting absolutely mowed down by guns. It's only a matter of time before more venues get added to this ever-growing list.

Right, and the granularity? One handgun and one rifle per home?

Any more stringent and you're taking the ability to hunt as a necessity and/or a sport from people.

Also, the crappy thing is, it doesn't take into effect the numerous amount of weapons one has already, unfortunately. My uncle has over a dozen guns, for example. It's more of a collection thing, but still.
You have to start somewhere. Marking it off as a lost cause that's unfixable is not the way.

Also the number of people in the US that need to hunt as a necessity is miniscule.

Yeah it's strange dealing with someone who, as far as we know, hasn't left a manifesto, social media trail, videos etc.

Wondering if we'll even find out what caused him to do this.

I'm aware of the misnomer but you can't deny a suprressors function which is to dampen gunshots and muzzle flashes. I imagine loud gunshots ringing out saved a lot of lives during this thing especially as he attacked from 32 stories up. Suppressors certainly wouldn't help avoidance or the law enforcement trying to locate him.

This was clearly a fairly coordinated attack and not just spur of the moment.

Why take the risk? Why make total lethality even easier?

I don’t remember suppressors being all that easy to get like that poster was implying. I remember looking into them way back and you had to set up a trust and pay a pretty high fee for the tax stamp. The effort required was probably enough to keep most people away. I think that method was on its way out at the time too because everything kept saying to do it before a loophole was closed.

I believe NY requires multiple people to vouch for you or something like that.

i hate that the gun control thing is always the first thing the far left goes to. its the most simplistic route of logic possible. lazy even. if guns were illegal or even made "harder to get" with laws, it will not prevent things like this from happening.
besides, he could have just as easily killed as many by driving over people. probably more effective actually. anyone who has been to vegas before can tell you those sidewalks on the main strip or even the old vegas under that overhang are always packed with pedestrians.

Putting a far greater limit on how many guns, what kind of guns, and ammo one person can have. Also making the process of getting a gun much more thorough and prudent.

I think things like buying guns at gun shows should be illegal, as well as from pawn shops.

Maybe if all states take the same actions as CA and NY. Those states are regulated pretty heavily.

It’s almost worse when it’s a blank canvas where anyone can paint their fears onto the situation. Trying to comprehend the incomprehensible.

Which is insane to me. Apparently he was 32 floors up and far away. How can he hit with precision like that.

Even small handguns can shoot thousands of yards, maybe not accurately but thousands of yards.

Rifles are incredibly accurate at long distance, and all you needed with something like an AR is a target the size of a huge crowd to do a lot of damage.

I have a rifle that's accurate up to two miles off of iron sights if you're the greatest sniper ever.... hitting his target was easy with the guns he had.

As a gun owner, I'm all for insanely harsh gun laws in this country. I have an FFL, had to go through months of background checks and an FBI check. I think that should be required for any gun.

yep just like how laws limiting anything never work either, wait yeah they do.

we should abolish all laws since there will always be someone breaking them eh?

"far left" aka normal human beings without firearm fetishes

Boy, you couldn't be more transparent if you tried.

Can I ask why you think other countries don't have these issues, other than the fact that they have harsher gun control laws?

Honestly, I think we're more likely to have hotel patdowns and x-rays after this than sensible gun laws.

This was the thought that came to my mind earlier, it's so fucking frustrating but it may be very true.. So backwards the United States is with understanding majority's freedom.

Yeeah, Let me strip down to my underwear at a Hotel lobby so some fuck wit somehwere can have the freedom to walk around in Wal-Mart with a semi automatic hoisted on his back.

And in all honesty, peoples' hobbies should be be given relatively low priority when trying to prevent tens of thousands of lives being taken ever year.

Great insight bro

That's provably false. These events do not occur with such frequency and intensity outside of the USA, they can absolutely be prevented

wait comma the fuck.

I can't attest to having a solution to owners who have large stockpiles—scholarly evidence I can find points ot buybacks being ineffective, although that data is from the '90s—but I don't think the difficulty of the problem means we should throw up our hands.

what's your proposed solution then?

or are you too lazy to care?

Maybe, just maybe a few of these things will tip the scales this time:

1) Event was capured in realtime with many phone cams --- you can hear the automatic gunfire plain as day, and it no rational person could justify that rate of fire being available for anyone outside of a warzone

2) The shooter is just an average Joe, no criminal history, not even any mental issues, not a vet (from what the family says), no military training, nothing. The only shred is an unconfirmed link to ISIS which may (likely) be BS.

Sandy Hook shooter had a crazed look in his eye and was clearly mentally unstable. This blows the doors off of the "mentally challenged people shouldn't have guns" part of the discussion. Maybe, just maybe the populace at large will come together and agree that if an average Joe with no criminal history can just snap and do something like this with these sort of warzone-only-applicable weapons, then there needs to be some serious reforms and restrictions on weapons available on the market in this country and severe penalties for modifying said weapons in ways like this shooter likely did....
Remember their solution for Sandy Hook? Teachers and students with guns. They will just blame Muslims this time and advocate more guns to people as:" They could have stopped the attacker Steven Segal style" nonsense.

What are you even talking about. Compare other countries with gun laws. This type of stuff ain't happening.

I don't understand how it went from 2 to 58, did the 56 people die in hospital?

Luckily, nobody officially reports unconfirmed casualties. In the chaos that ensues following such an attack, medics focus on providing first aid to the wounded, while law enforcement will try to apprehend the shooter and get as many people as possible to safety.

I don't think there's any time or need to count the deceased before that.
You don't want them to report the wrong numbers, neither do you want them to be busy with double checking the number of people that they cannot help anymore ...

Over 500 people are injured... Many are likely not gonna make it. For fuck's sake... People better not forget this happened.

It's fucking mental, how can any sane person look at this and say: "nah, we're good, more guns are needed, guns don't kill etc."?
It's just all about them beautiful dollar bills.

Then give us a solution.

How often do mass shootings happen in other western countries with stricter gun control? In America it literally happens every day (on average). Something is so deeply fucked up, and the massive number of guns in circulation is certainly part of it.

If the shooter even had the most basic supported position, sitting on a backwards chair, a table, laying prone, etc; even firing full auto, it would be very easy to hit a crowd of that size. Any assault rifle is going to have an effective point target range of 500+ meters and an area target range of 800+. The angle he was shooting at that crowd would have made it a very, very large target. 5.56 and 7.62 rounds would have no trouble getting there even if he were 1000m away.
