As someone that lives in a country without army and have a lot of restrictions to own a gun. We rarely have this situations. I don't even remember a time were something like this ever happen, and I am 36. This is one of the reasons I don't want to go to USA, you don't know when someone with a mental problem, and easy access to guns will hurt other people.

While America does have a gun problem, silencers aren't anything to get upset about.

1. Silencers are not silent. In fact they are not even called silencers. They are called suppressors because silencer is a misnomer based on Hollywood and videogames. Even if you use subsonic ammo with a suppressor it's still not silent.

2. Supressors are already stupid easy for anyone to get and the fbi has found no evidence in them being used for crime. A suppressor makes a gun almost impossible to conceal and is generally not going to be used in a heart of the moment homicide which most homicides are in the US.

If you want to fight the gun lobby you have to pick battles you can win. They have statistics on their side for supressors so ignore it and go after handguns which are responsible for 95% of gun deaths.

Good ol' internet "gun experts." Rounds have edges, magazines are terrible reading material, and silencers aren't silent. Yes. Thanks. FYI, the official designation per the ATF is silencer, not suppressor. Either way is valid and it's not a Hollywood misnomer or an indication of ignorance whatsoever.

Eagerly anticipating all the bots and morons purporting that the shooter was a Black Lives Matter ANTIFA member funded by ((((((((((((((SOROS))))))))))))))) who once didn't stand for the pledge of allegiance in 4th grade.

Found out my cousin was at the concert. Happy to report that she and her husband are safe. They ran on foot over two fences and a few miles before spending the night at the airport. Heading back home now with the clothes in the backs (minus shoes).

Remember when black people peacefully protested and that made one guy angry and pissed and demand consequences?

Remember when a white guy killed dozens of people and a guy reacted emotionless and didn't demand any consequences?

Same guy.

That guy is the US-President.
Meanwhile, he’s shrugging off the terrible job he’s doing at managing a humanitarian crisis, after insulting its victims.

Yep, white American shoots and kills a huge amount of people and all he does is ask people to pray.

So... Basic ass dude, with no history background or military training, priors or criminal record, family and friends refer to him as friendly and kind, and say he owned no weapons, and "not a gun person" etc etc.

WHY IN THE FUCK DID HE DO THIS.
His brother who, admittedly wasn't in constant contact with him, didn't think he was a gun person.

Dumb lazy logic always ruining everything

...and in more than half of the gun related crimes in Canada firearms that are illegally smuggled over the border from the US are involved.

i hate that the gun control thing is always the first thing the far left goes to. its the most simplistic route of logic possible. lazy even. if guns were illegal or even made "harder to get" with laws, it will not prevent things like this from happening.
besides, he could have just as easily killed as many by driving over people. probably more effective actually. anyone who has been to vegas before can tell you those sidewalks on the main strip or even the old vegas under that overhang are always packed with pedestrians.

Sure it's called low hanging fruit. Any reasonable person engaged in problem solving at any level will start with the most obvious items, and work their way to dealing with other issues. Dealing with mass violence starts with the weapons used, motivations, mental health, and/or substance abuse.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering though, this is obviously a throwaway account being used for nonsense.

It's already happening. Pol was trying to spread the story that the shooter was a Muslim antifa member.

In what reality does your mind live in where it is possible to kill 60 people and injure over 500 people by driving over them with a vehicle?

It could happen(and already have sadly), but a coward shooting people from the 32nd floor and killing himself before the police arrive probably won't be the one to do it.

It's crazy that some people seem so unwilling to admit that the USA has a serious problem regarding guns.
Don't you see all the good, which completely justifies those lose gun-laws, like ... ahmm ... if you're really hungry you could go hunting ... and .... they shoot freedom!!!

It's funny because some people will always argue gun control will only harm the good people because they won't be able to fight back. Which cowboy would bring his rifle to a concert and save the day?

There were a few people open carrying at the Dallas march -- as soon as shooting started, those open carrying people handed over their guns to police. If they had instead gone into hero mode and tried to take on the shooter, it would have just made things more difficult for police to parse the situation and they could have very well gotten more people killed -- one of them even had his photo published on the news because they thought he was the shooter, simply because he was open carrying. Either way, the "good guys with guns" were completely useless and if anything, made the situation worse.

99% of the guns in the US are just glorified toys and they don't want their toys taken away so they'll come up with any excuse they can.

.... I feel the timing of your statements, that I do not agree with any capacity, are a bit wrong. There are victims right now that deserve support after everything that's gone down. Please don't turn this into a gun control debate or whatever and distract from this heinous crime.

How and why did this happen? I'm legit shook because this is the last thing I expected to wake up to. Everyone in the venue outside of this gun wielding maniac are great people so it sucks to see this happen to them. We're due for a response from the person that resides in white house at 10:30 am. Just show some empathy for once and try to live up to your responsibility.

Yuuuuuuuuuup

Seriously, what is your mass shooting death and injury toll until you think that something should be done? 58 dead acceptable for status quo or do you need triple digits? At what point is enough, enough and the power and danger of firearms finally going to sink in?

I’m Canadian and I was brought up around guns. My father is ex British military and I was trained by him about firearm safety. I used to love guns, but there is no place for them in my life anymore. I question whether or not I’d care if I still lived rural.

Firearms are not toys. They need to be licensed and so does the operator.

Seems like it would be easy enough to add a sensor to cars that automatically kills the engine when it detects something has hit the front/undercarriage of the car.

Of course it could probably be disabled by someone crafty enough, but it would at least deter people randomly stealing a car and ramming it into people.

That's a bad idea. Imagine icy/snowy conditions.... a deer jumps out in front of your car and you hit it.....slamming on the brakes or stopping the engine is a bad idea.

That's actually a great idea, although not sure the cost of that would be agreeable to the public. Maybe on larger vehicles like box trucks and semis. The nice attack was a large semi truck

You're right. I said "family" generally, as his brother is the only one I've seen them interview so far
Well yeah. My point is the brother is on the other side of the country. The brother doesn't really know him or what he gets into when they're not at family gatherings.

Maybe we can have the debate at the next mass shooting. Oh wait, there is at least one everyday in the US. So I guess we can never talk about it.

where and when did someone injure 500 people with a vehicle?

Wow --- had no idea that the Nice attack had that many injured ---- it's getting much too easy for sick & twisted individuals to mass murder tens & injure hundreds at a time........

It was Bastille day, France's 4th of July, they had cordoned off the streets. There is a video where you see the semi go full speed plowibg through the crowd.

Horrible scene and I wish I could unwatch it honestly

How many mass shootings need to happen before a debate is appropriate?

It's crazy that some people seem so unwilling to admit that the USA has a serious problem regarding guns.

The chart kind of looks like a gun.

In the UK we had the Dunblane massacre, said fuck this shit and brought in some of the strongest gun control laws in the world.

We have problems but thankfully guns are rarely one of them.

The same people who are opposed to gun control are the same group who flew off the handle about football players kneeling for a song.

You can hit these people over the head with a cast iron skillet of common sense and it's not going to accomplish anything.

Rest in peace.

Some Americans are more upset about people being anti-gun than they are about the victims who died.

My uncle showed more fury about Hillary Clinton tweeting about standing up to the NRA than he did about this.

Its status quo, through and through. People will post meaningless "thoughts and prayers" and move on. Our culture is the worst.

Gonna need the receipts on there is a "mass shooting" every day in the US.

Defined as a shooting where 4 or more people are killed by the US. That seems pretty likely to happen once a day here.

More than 30,000 die each year and more than 70,000 others are injured by gun violence in the United States. That's more than 80 dead and more than 190 injured every single day of the year, and 99.5% of those days do not have a Mandalay Bay type of event.

Every single day is a day worth talking about gun control because no day is absent of massive amounts of gun violence.
