Mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas; 58 dead, 500+ injured.

As someone that lives in a country without army and have a lot of restrictions to own a gun. We rarely have this situations. I don't even remember a time were something like this ever happen, and I am 36. This is one of the reasons I don't want to go to USA, you don't know when someone with a mental problem, and easy access to guns will hurt other people.

Good ol' internet "gun experts." Rounds have edges, magazines are terrible reading material, and silencers aren't silent. Yes. Thanks. FYI, the official designation per the ATF is silencer, not suppressor. Either way is valid and it's not a Hollywood misnomer or an indication of ignorance whatsoever.

Found out my cousin was at the concert. Happy to report that she and her husband are safe. They ran on foot over two fences and a few miles before spending the night at the airport. Heading back home now with the clothes in the backs (minus shoes).

Sure it's called low hanging fruit. Any reasonable person engaged in problem solving at any level will start with the most obvious items, and work their way to dealing with other issues. Dealing with mass violence starts with the weapons used, motivations, mental health, and/or substance abuse.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering though, this is obviously a throwaway account being used for nonsense.

It could happen(and already have sadly), but a coward shooting people from the 32nd floor and killing himself before the police arrive probably won't be the one to do it.

There were a few people open carrying at the Dallas march -- as soon as shooting started, those open carrying people handed over their guns to police. If they had instead gone into hero mode and tried to take on the shooter, it would have just made things more difficult for police to parse the situation and they could have very well gotten more people killed -- one of them even had his photo published on the news because they thought he was the shooter, simply because he was open carrying. Either way, the "good guys with guns" were completely useless and if anything, made the situation worse.

99% of the guns in the US are just glorified toys and they don't want their toys taken away so they'll come up with any excuse they can.

.... I feel the timing of your statements, that I do not agree with any capacity, are a bit wrong. There are victims right now that deserve support after everything that's gone down. Please don't turn this into a gun control debate or whatever and distract from this heinous crime.

How and why did this happen? I'm legit shook because this is the last thing I expected to wake up to. Everyone in the venue outside of this gun wielding maniac are great people so it sucks to see this happen to them. We're due for a response from the person that resides in white house at 10:30 am. Just show some empathy for once and try to live up to your responsibility.

Seriously, what is your mass shooting death and injury toll until you think that something should be done? 58 dead acceptable for status quo or do you need triple digits? At what point is enough, enough and the power and danger of firearms finally going to sink in?

I’m Canadian and I was brought up around guns. My father is ex British military and I was trained by him about firearm safety. I used to love guns, but there is no place for them in my life anymore. I question whether or not I’d care if I still lived rural.

Firearms are not toys. They need to be licensed and so does the operator.

That's a bad idea. Imagine icy/snowy conditions.... a deer jumps out in front of your car and you hit it.....slamming on the brakes or stopping the engine is a bad idea.

That's actually a great idea, although not sure the cost of that would be agreeable to the public. Maybe on larger vehicles like box trucks and semis. The nice attack was a large semi truck

It was Bastille day, France's 4th of July, they had cordoned off the streets. There is a video where you see the semi go full speed plowibg through the crowd.


Horrible scene and I wish I could unwatch it honestly

The chart kind of looks like a gun.

In the UK we had the Dunblane massacre, said fuck this shit and brought in some of the strongest gun control laws in the world.

We have problems but thankfully guns are rarely one of them.

The same people who are opposed to gun control are the same group who flew off the handle about football players kneeling for a song.

You can hit these people over the head with a cast iron skillet of common sense and it's not going to accomplish anything.

Some Americans are more upset about people being anti-gun than they are about the victims who died.

My uncle showed more fury about Hillary Clinton tweeting about standing up to the NRA than he did about this.

Defined as a shooting where 4 or more people are killed by the US. That seems pretty likely to happen once a day here.

More than 30,000 die each year and more than 70,000 others are injured by gun violence in the United States. That's more than 80 dead and more than 190 injured every single day of the year, and 99.5% of those days do not have a Mandalay Bay type of event.

Every single day is a day worth talking about gun control because no day is absent of massive amounts of gun violence.
