I'm strictly looking at things from a self defense point of view. My main weapon had 17 round capacity but the next gun I bought was around 10. I felt like that would be really limiting so I carried both. Luckily I never had to fire a shot. I haven't felt the need to carry in 18 years or so but that is changing now.
I’m not seeing the logic.

Dude kept a low profile.
Seems like extremely limited or no real social media presence, no police record. Worked through to retirement. NYT has a long write up, and the only thing of note about the guy is his father being a bank robber in the 60s or something like that. Going to be a while, I think.

He had a criminal record.

All the talk of God for a developed country was pretty horrible.

Saw that Mark Kelly, congresswoman Gabby Giffords' husband, said how it is.

So is Mark going to do what is needed and run for a US Senate seat next year? We desperately need people like him in positions of leadership if we want to turn things around.

Thoughts and prayers aren't important at all though. They might make those offering them feel better about themselves, but beyond that they do literally nothing.

But the overall message is good and true, of course.

17 chances to put down a threat versus 10. Seems pretty simple.

People don't operate by statistical chances when they have the means to take their own actions.
95 percent chance that you'll only have enough time to fire a few rounds...or most times unable to fire at all, let alone 17 shots. That shit is unrealistic.

So basically, don't think about gun deaths, or wish well for the people who are hurt. Public sentiment stays the same and generally speaking nothing changes.

So the same as usual then.

There is plenty of evidence that says the societal negative burden of our current stance far outweighs the benefit of some concealed carry holder actually stepping in and saving themselves or others.

Yeah it happens, but hell, I bet toddlers shooting themselves or others happens more frequently than a good guy with a gun stopping a crime.

1,000 children a year die from guns in the States.

No, he did not. His father did.

Aye, I'd urge everyone to watch the brother's interview on him. The guy sounds like a complete nobody. No political affiliation, no religious affiliation, regularly talked to his family, no issues with the law, fucking sent his family giant boxes of cookies. They didn't really know their father.

All that makes it seems all the worse for the lack of motivation. Like a seemingly perfectly regular guy up and took to shooting hundreds of people for no reason. Makes it seem all the more senseless.

I feel like the most likely motivation is gonna be something simple, like wanting to commit suicide, but also wanting to bring other people with him.

Why would she say something like that???

I have no idea, I think someone made a remark like that earlier in this topic. For some, it's probably some edgy joke about country music, but it's incredibly crass when bodies are still warm and people are fighting to survive.

Others I guess it is just sheer malice that they think mostly Republicans will have been gunned down. Right now is not the time for lamenting any Republicans shot, or killed over how they vote. For any who have survived the battle of political debates can come a bit down the line when we're not just hours from the worst mass shooting in US history. No one deserves to be gunned down in cold blood at a music festival.

I have no basis for this assumption, but I'll say it anyway, I'd guess many at this festival, especially if young, will already be of the mind to want to support gun control. Even if Republicans. The biggest problem in America seems to be the NRA (rich, corrupt and hostile organisation), not actually finding a good number of Americans who want gun control/reform.

This is crazy. This is insane. One mass shooting after another and still no serious gun control laws. So many lives extinguished and America keeps trucking on. In most other countries even one of these tragedies would have led to immediate action. This is absolutely insane. American politicians who oppose gun control are sociopaths and the blood of all those people is on their hands.

Once we decided it was OK for an elementary school and children to be victims of mass shootings (Sandy Hook), it was already over. Nothing will change.

This. His age really threw me off, but then hearing his brother describe him?

I wonder if we'll ever find out why he did what he did.

Jake Tapper immediately calling out Congress for not doing anything to prevent this or future tragedies. At least someone with a voice is fed up enough to speak up.

we've had mass shootings years long before sandy hook, and columbine for that matter

That's seriously the feeling I'm getting as well. The brother isn't apologetic about him, he just genuinely struggles to find a reason which is the scariest thing.
The police have raided his home and apparently found more weapons though, so maybe we'll know eventually.

Do you even know what the current laws are with regards to gun ownership?

I hope the few thousand dollars made from the gun sale to this guy makes up for the hundreds of millions lost in emergency medical care, insurance, legal claims, and damage to the Vegas economy. Get life insurance companies on side for gun control measures at least.

This man presumably would have had the money to purchase fully automatic weapons and modify high powered semi-automatics into full automatics, essentially.

Oh, he spent more than that on guns. And lose of human life is incalculable. The loss of human life at this scale by one individual is goes even further beyond that.

Absolute idiot

RIP to the victims and I hope the families get the support they need. This was a disgusting and heinous act and crimes like this will never change unless the government as a whole take action. However I’m sceptical, nothing changed when the Sandy Hook school massacre occurred in which 20 young children were killed and so I doubt this will either.

Anyone else growing numb to the mass shooting cycle? The twitter callouts, the cyclical arguments, that onion article, semantics regarding terrorists, the borderline psychotic spinning from the alt-right, and the NRA. I'm frustrated with all of this bullshit. I wish we could actually make a difference, but it just seems impossible. Especially with the current presidency which is already impossible to deal with it.

Haven't felt this frustrated in a long time.

Frustrated? Yes. Numb? No.
