Gran Turismo Sport vs Forza Motorsport 7 comparison with the Corvette C7

They both look good enough. What REALLY grinds my gears though, is the shaky camera in forza. Why did they do this? This is not how human eyes work. Not at all. Forza just went from "will look at this when I get a new PC" to "better double dip on PC2".
I asked, some one said it was realistic ;)

Holy smokes !! What game is on the right in that vid? Looks phenomenal
Heh, it's GTS vs Real Life..I think a non-final version of GTS at that....

Thanks. So the usual then. Forza sounds meatier. Neither sound exactly like real life but GT just can't get their cars sounding exciting. So flat and lifeless.
Some guy said he used to live near the Nurburgring and that GTS sound accurate. Tbh you can hear the whine and engine purr quite well on GT. Downshifts, braking/slowdown at corners et al.. are all depicted very well aurally...

You can disable camera movement in Forza, at least in 6 and Horizon 3.

If GTS ends up being the best looking racing game this year, the meltdowns are going to be insane here... This year keeps delivering in all aspects.

That is weird.

I think the flat lightning in Forza 7 makes it look sterile not the other way around.
GT has always had amazing lighting, but Forza over time has implemented some really nice audio and track atmospherics.

Remember this argument against Driveclub, which Dynamic Lighting can make the game look flat at times.
True of any game with dynamic conditions. You get some stellar high points and some drab low points depending.

And I guess its due to all the post-processing effects these days, but screens just don't do games justice. Its in motion where everything comes together, and you lose so much of the magic when you freeze a moment in time. Photo modes tend to help though.

It's already pretty close to being up there, all things considered. It's been a few years since racing's had so many serious contenders for people's time all within the same few months.

Ah, this brings a tear to my eye.

Lol back then it was FH3's more colorful / saturated lighting vs DC's dynamic lighting which like you said can look flat at times. Funny thing is GTS with the right TOD can also look flat.

I've said this about previous versions of both franchises, but the same still applys I believe.

GT has much more realistic lighting, but that quest for absolute realism makes most environments look sterile.

I've always preferred the more stylised and 'doctored' look of Forza. Everything else Forza is better at: environments, sound design, UI, track listing, structure.

I agree completely. Polyphony has gone for, and/or achieved, a more realistic lighting than Turn 10. That said, given every other factor, IMHO Forza will retain the crown it wears since... FM3, perhaps?

I don´t believe this is a fair comparison: Forza doesn´t even seem to run at 60 fps, and it looks much more washed out than in my low-end ´39 Philips TV.
Even then, I still prefer it to GT´s famously sterile approach.

Yeah, GT Sports lighting isnt baked like some says it is.

If it is, night time racing would look pretty shit.

Watching the Forza 7 capture, absolutely love seeing the rear wing vibration (noticed around the 50sec mark). That is some insane level of detail.

I really like both franchises but I do think that the graphical style of Forza is far better suited to the Horizon games than it is to the main series. That's not a criticism of the graphics in either game because they do both look fantastic it's just that the graphical style of the Forza games remind me of the old Sega arcade racers and I just feel that they fit in better with the Horizon games.

There's nothing wrong with people having different opinions about what style of graphics they think are more to certain games and I'm sure many people will disagree with me but one thing I can't understand is anybody suggesting that wither Gran Turismo Sport of Forza 7 are ugly games. I'd agree that neither of them is perfect graphically, or in any other way but both do their own thing and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I think I've always been closer to the Gran Turismo games and I think in part that's because I absolutely fell in love with the original game on PS1 and I don't think I've been as impressed with any driving game as much as I was when I played that. I think that it can be difficult for people who haven't been there with the series all along to believe just how realistic GT looked when it was released on the PS1. When I look back at the PS1 games now, it just doesn't make any sense to me how it could have looked so real at the time and I love that I'm still getting driving games twenty years later that surprise me with how realistic they look...and I'm sure look back at these games years from now and be just as surprised that I ever thought these games looked realistic.

Guess which game this is and tell me wther or not you think either GT or Forza's lighting looks better than it:

there will be meltdowns regardless...internet

labeling my comment as a "meltdown"? so much edge. started the gt series at its first entry on ps1. even hit the maximum completed percentage of 98.2% in gt2. started to lose interest in the series after gt4. id like for gt to suck me back in, but no campaign and (still, after all these years) shitty vacuum audio drop my interest basically to zero. will wait for the next numbered game with a proper campaign. dont give a shit who wins the "prettiest" game award, honestly.

The frametimes are all over the place on Forza 7 in this. They captured it on PC yes? What hardware? What settings? Is this the infamous stuttering I've heard about the PC having?

Seems very disingenous. It runs nothing like this jerkily on Xbox One.

Stolen from Forza 7 gif/screenshot thread, but F7 looks great too in gifs.

It's not that Forza looks bad, it's just that GT has that extra polish you know?

Look at the headlights in that Forza gif. Zero bloom or luminance. Those are the details that GT got right.

Time of day doesn't look that different to me, at least some sun rays could be showing in the Forza 7 clip, since the weather is sunny with clouds. Anyway, GT lighting looks nicer. Both great looking games overall though.

I prefer GTS visuals, but prefer Forza 7 audio. Both are fantastic games for racing fans in general. Gonna be picking up Sport at launch and eventually playing Forza 7(played the PC demo, loved it) once I get my TB prize.

I like how the car vibrates more in FM7. It seems uncannily smooth and static in GTS. Don't know if this translates to how the game feels to play though.

naw...more along the lines of "this is neogaf" where opinions are gonna be all over the place. calm down.

I mean let show a race in both games where it's dark and changes to morning while a storm starts up

Ohhhhhh wait
This is an absolutely hilarious argument coming from anyone defending Forza vs GT in a visuals discussion...I absolutely adore the FM franchise...but FOR YEARS it's fanboys have down played the importance of ToD or weather changes in games...

Now all of a sudden, there are jokes to be made...come on guys..m

Maybe because real life lighting can be flat and sterile and not oversaturated like GT's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJvZr5BCsBQ

The thing with comparing to real life camera footage like that is that it heavily depends on the used camera hardware and the settings of the recording. Because being there in real life on a sunny does not really look that sterile either. Now I agree GT:S here looks a tad too saturated and dark in this footage (maybe also due to wheather conditions), but I think camera footage isn't a good representation of real life in terms of colour and brightness.

Just use a couple of different cameras and different settings on the same outdoor scenery (with "poor" lightning conditions) and chances are you will see extremely different results visually and all will look different than actually looking at the scenery in real life.

Hmmm, GT:S Looks good...for some reason tho...that FM7 footage looks....off? I played the beta and to me the colors popped a lot more than that and I actually thought the lighting was nice compared to the last Forza Motorsport games I played at least. Can even see the colors popping more in some of the more recent links people posted.

Weird.

not bad for youtube quality. why were people shitting on that like it was a 480p potato cam video and you can't see differences in lighting?

As good as GT's lighting looks, we actually haven't really seen anything yet. GT's HDR support is insane, with PD taking HDR to a level that no TV on the market can even show yet, so I'm sure it's going to look stunning even on my 4k TV now.

can't tell if this is tongue in check or not haha
