Its why I've basically given up on the pixel I barely can justify a 500$ phone every 2-3 years.
Google doesn't even seem to be discounting the old one in Australia.

Check out Motorola's phones. Clean Android install, regular updates and decent hardware.
I love my Moto Z Play. Two days battery life with heavy usage.
I'm also considering one of the new Nokia phones when it comes time. They seem to be doing good work for folks after non flagship phones.

Same, has generally been okay except for the bootloop which was apparently hardware related, which they fixed. Although the camera doesn't boot often, and the headphone jack doesn't grip cords so they just fall out. Guess I'll be in the market soon.

Clean Android version too. I can't stress enough how important this is when considering an Android phone (to me anyway).
Skins are the worst part of the Android experience. They also cause unnecessary delays to updates too.

Make sure you check their update cycle and see how long it takes for LG to update the OS and how long support last for.
I think they have got better recently, but lots of manufacturers are abandoning their phones after 12-18 months.
I like to keep my phones for two years at least, so this is an important consideration for me.

I'd say two years. Unless you are one of those weird Apple obsessives who like to spend thousands just to have a new number (or an S) and less features.
Most of mine have been replaced within 18-24 months. Some of them have been getting a bit run down, newer OS updates often lead to this, but some have been ok and could have kept going, but I can get a new phone so I do.
For the first time I might be doing a swap after 12 months. Optus have plans now that offer a 12 month change over for $99, and if the Huawei Mate 10 ends up being as good as it sounds I'll trade-up from the Mate 9.

Two years sounds about right, I think. Three is a stretch, especially if youre a heavy user, because update bloat slows the OS and your battery starts to crap out.
Speaking of batteries crapping out - Samus Returns will be the last 3DS game I buy. I never knew how terrible it could be to have a handheld tethered to one place until I realised my 3DS battery doesnt hold more than two minutes of charge anymore. I have to hold the system at a particular angle while playing in bed - its awful.
The worst part is that because I have an American 3DS, I dont think I can buy a local one for cheap and transfer my data over either.

Well so far Ive gone 2-3 years. And thats pretty much driven by updates stopping. If google continued to provide updates Id update less frequently.

Hmm, my iPhone 6 plus is just over 3 years old, and while the battery is fine I've heard bad things about running iOS 11 (released a fortnight ago) on it, so I've just skipped that update. I get it for free (work phone) so maybe it's time to ask for a new one, although I'd feel a bit guilty because honestly it still runs fine.
I'm religious. Don't see me suppressing your rights. I think your right to watch Current Affair should be looked at though.

I raised a complaint about one of TTs stories to the media watchdog (forget what its called) being race baiting and fear mongering and not being in the public interest. Months later, Channel 7 sent me a very carefully worded letter saying that they thought I was wrong and that this therefore put the matter to bed.
Having by this point forgotten all about the segment and not wanting to get into an Internet forum fight with someone whose job it is to deflect attention away from their employers stupid bullshit, I let it slide. I remember being so angry at the time too.
