Jimmy Fallon Cratering in the Ratings, Skirting Near Third Place in "Late Night Wars"

Why do people care though? Spicer was just doing his job and trying to keep it.. now he is humanized and will go on to be a nobody.. I don't get the uproar.

For real. The guy was only doing what he was told (and very badly btw). It's not like he has actual influence.

Huh? Kimmel had him on first, does Colbert even have a say in the Emmy-production?
It was his idea.

You know the "he was only following orders" thing is how people defend Nazi soldiers right? If you find your job to be morally wrong, you don't have to do it.

Leno was coasting off old viewers. After the younger crew that Conan brought with him had their host changed, they're not really interested in a kissass like Fallon anymore.

And what's bad about Sean Spicer? The dude doesn't give a shit about his time with Trump now.

I watched a lot of CNN people say Sean Spicer is a good guy, but just had a bad job to do.

You don't stay in a job where you are lying against fucking facts for a racist if you have morals.

I'm guessing because he hasent had any real political stances for people to identify with, he wants to be safe when people are tired of the safe route

He was just doing his job. He can't possible be a dipshit like his former boss or anything.

Keep politics out of it, unless they are my politics!!!

Is what I read every time someone says that X needs to not be about politics.

Seth Meyers deserves way more recognition for what he's doing. Not just for his A Closer Look bits, but also for the way he's been giving his female writers a spotlight regularly.

I watch a closet look daily.

I find it a great way to catch up on stupidness that I missed out on for the day.

Doing what you're told is always a decision.

So....

...did The Roots bet on the wrong horse? :(

I honestly don't mind Fallon. He seems like that YouTuber that won the fame lottery and was our on screen avatar when he got shy and goofy meeting celebrities that he idolized.

Only problem is that he never really grew out of that.

The joke didn’t land.

Everyone knows Spicer’s worthless; it was pointless to waste time in a show meant to honor people’s achievements on him. Pretty much an affront to every decent person there, and even more so to poc and women.

It failed as a joke.
Not all jokes land. That is the nature of comedy. Colbert was obviously going to make jokes about the administration, and Spicer was part of the administration
Yea joking about how you deliberately lied to the American people on behalf of the President. LOL! LMAO!

Yea no, the result was celebrities laughing along and taking selfies with that piece of shit at the after party.

Maybe you don't know what rebranding or normalizing means?
Yes, most of Colbert jokes are literally jokes about the President being a piece of shit, or Spencer being a terrible ass liar. You can make fun of bad shit, that's like Colbert's whole job.
Is the issue that Spencer is there participating in the joke? The joke is literally the same joke either way, with or without him. Have people actually watched Colbert before? Some of his best stuff is him interviewing shitheads and making jokes about them being shitheads.
And again, there was no rebranding or normalizing.
Celebrities being dumbasses that don't get the point of things and don't care about the average person is not a new thing. No, the celebrities taking happy selfies with him didn't even care for the joke. Spicer is someone they'd love to take selfies with regardless. Celebrities are tone deaf like that, what a surprise.

Exactly. Jesus Christ people will get offended about anything and everything these days. Colbert has been killing Spicer every week in his show and that interpretation is a huge reach.

You don’t get it.

Yes, Colbert has been one of Trump’s harshest critics from day one. And yes, he speaks truth to power on a nightly basis. But he made jokes with a guy who’s a jerk and who lied about things. That makes Colbert a jerk and a liar via the transitive property. He failed the most important test a person can take in life: The Purity Test.

I have no problems with Colbert. Fallon I only remember for bland jokes and crying on tv. I get he's upset, but that will put people off no matter which way you look at it.

Every time I tried to watch Fallon in the past, I remember there being dumb audience participation games and cringe worthy celebrity lip sync battles.

Seemed like writing actual comedy wasn't one of it's strong points.

Wow, he barely lets his guest speak, just endlessly butting in. Keanu at least had fun with it though, delivered a great jab and got a big audience reaction. I stopped halfway, couldn’t take anymore of Fallon’s desk-slapping antics.

I recall really disliking Fallon on SNL for ruining damn near every skit he was involved in. Just could not read his lines and complete his jokes. Cute at first to see him stumble in a fit of laughter, but that got irritating so fast.

American tv is fake and unfunny, but this guy is on another level.

I'm glad Conan got free from The Tonight Show. They made him get into a box, and he could hardly be himself, then they get the perfect puppet and seem to have full control. He's such a blank person, from the fake laughs, to not seeming to feel strongly about anything.

Colbert miscalculated but to round on him for that one thing after years and years of making it abundantly clear where he is at is just plain idiotic

Fallon tho, dude is a fence sitter of the highest order

lol whatever

Colbert has blind spots just like anyone else. He though the shock humor value was more important so he went for it and he knew everyone else would just roll with it.

It's possible for someone to be a generally great person and still fuck up sometimes, which he did. You guys kiss Colbert's ass too much

Orly is Last Call with Carson Daly still a thing? Just googled and it is.. by far the worst late night show of them all, why is this show still running?

Him and Corden are awful... Fallon has tons of talent but its wasted on his mainstream pander to everyone nice guy shtick.

Late night shows are pretty dead now after Letterman, Stewart, Ferguson all gone and Conan fired to TBS. Stephen Colbert was great on The Colbert Report i dont like him nearly as much as the replacement for Letterman.

Why was Jay Leno so popular tho.

He's too generic. While that catered to a boomers audience for background noise, they are passing. The other hosts have more personality, intellect, ect.

In other words Fallon is a dildo and the rest are people.
