Jimmy Fallon Cratering in the Ratings, Skirting Near Third Place in "Late Night Wars"

What was the Pence stunt Colbert did..? I've been trying to dial back my exposure to the political nonsense the last month or so, so I must have missed it.

Spencer, not Pence sorry.

The whole Emmy shit show.

Was there even a thread on that? I don’t remember seeing it and it’s the first time I’m hearing about him doing a remote there.

Not sure that it was but I definetly recommend watching his Israel stuff. There’s some hilarious stuff in there mixed with touching and poignant stuff.

Seeing Conan interact with people is always a pleasure too.

And what of Last Call with Carson Daly?

Never caught an episode of it. Or Chelsea Handler.

I have caught a few snippets of Full Front with Samantha B though, and of course there's the Daily Show, but I don't really put them in the same category as the others. It's all comedy, but I feel that those two serve different purposes.

Sadly, a lot of GAF turned on Conan when he went to Israel last month. Many GAFers are very anti-Israel.

I didn't catch that one. I usually watch his remotes a bit after they've aired.

I heard the Israel one was pretty decent though. Will give it a watch when I've got the time.

No one else can take you to the moon and back if you will be his baby in the same day.

Fallon on any given night, and a big reason why I can't watch him.

Half of what comes out of his mouth during an interview is a compliment. You're the best, we love your new album, we love you so much, oh you're so great in so and so, we just love you here on the tonight show, I'm a huge fan, this is one of my favorite songs of all time, oh my gosh, I'm a huge gamer....Just, tone it down a bit Jimmy. I do think he is a genuinely nice person, but he is over the top where it comes off as insincere.

He seemed a completely different person with the Late Night, the gig should have gone to Conan as it was supposed to.

Old stone-faced Fallon.

What? I want to see this thread. That was an amazing thing he did. SMH, GAF man.

It was probably a knee jerk reaction.

When I saw the videos pop on YouTube I assumed the worst and that it was just “Israel is awesome” videos but I shouldn’t have underestimated him. He really gave it the best overview a comedian and late night show host can do. Showing the good and the bad and really not hiding anything.

I like Fallon's skits on his show, but his interviews not so much.

Also, I prefer to not watch 20 minutes of political talk at the start of a talk show (a la Kimmel).

Conan is a perfect example of how a host can be apolitical and still have a message to state when something that rocks the nation happens.

Meanwhile Fallon is playing beer pong with whomever he can get to come in.

I was in attendance for one of Conan's shows at Comic Con, and 2/3rds of his opening monologue were jokes ripping Trump. He doesn't go hot and heavy into it like Colbert does, but he doesn't shy away from the White House at all.

I think this goes to show that viewers want the hosts to talk about politics and hot-button issues instead of ignoring the fact that the US is currently ripping itself apart. Colbert, Kimmel, and Seth Meyers are all doing that. Heck even Conan does on occasion, but for whatever reason Fallon is just playing it too safe.

I said outright that I didn’t see the thread. I also don’t think “many Gaffers are anti-Israel” is a true statement

Well, Trump's going to be president for the next 3 years. I wonder if Fallon can survive until then?

If Fallon continues to slip he won't make it another year.

Seth Meyers deserves his slot.

This would be great.. Seth is far more talented, which means NBC will not go this route..

Time for Conan to replace Fallon

This would be an amazing story, but will never happen.. moreso from Conan than NBC.

Is Fallon gonna get Conan’ed? I don’t think Conan’s numbers were that bad when he hosted the Tonight Show.

Different circumstances. Conan had Leno and his gigantic contract hanging over his head. In the end it came down to being cheaper for NBC to ditch Conan than to ditch Jay.

People probably don't watch his show or at least catch his show while channel surfing here because he's making fun of Trump now, guessing he's just not a compelling host or too little too late

Pretty sure Desus & Mero have the number one show in late night, but Fallon has always been a milquetoast entertainter. Not surprised he's continuing to struggle if audiences are looking for more authenticity and truth to power with their comedy.

how libertarian of you

If you say so.

The political world is such a shitshow right now that yea I enjoy taking breaks from it. Being invested in politics all day long sounds exhausting as hell, let me just turn my brain off and enjoy some mindless fun without it.

Conan is truly the funniest host any late night show has ever had. He's actually too good for the format, and I hope he'll be able to adapt to something new some day.

Colbert is certainly the one I tend to watch the most on YouTube the day after, since he's so politically focused. I know people have been pissed at him since Spicer, but I don't see how that poor judgment invalidates the years of work put in at The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. Also, he's probably the most comfortable with getting confrontational with his guests.

I'll usually watch one Kimmel clip every week or so. His impassioned rants are great and, although it's lowbrow, Mean Tweets is usually pretty funny.

Meyers and Corden basically don't exist to me. I'll occasionally catch a Meyers clip, but it's pretty rare.

Fallon is pretty lame. I get the appeal of having celebrities play silly games and such, but it's not for me.

I miss Ferguson a lot. His show captured a very similar anarchy to Conan's original Late Night where literally anything could happen. I hope he comes back with something similar someday.

Edit: Also, fuck 'em for replacing Twister.

Dude, Twister was standing in line for an hour to see a fog machine turned on under a ceiling fan. It shouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

And what of Last Call with Carson Daly?

I legitimately had no idea that Last Call was still on the air, and it's freaking me out.

People don't want phoniness during these insane times. Still didn't expect to see this much of a ratings drop though. Wow.

I feel really bad for The Roots. I enjoyed Fallon's show during his "Late Night with..." years since I'm a big Roots fan and the bits they did on the show were far more off beat in comparison to what they can do during the 11:30 timeslot. Jimmy was always a poor interviewer and sadly that hasn't changed even though he's now hosting the "late night show of alllate night shows".

I would love to watch a behind the scenes documentary on all everything that's been going on with the Tonight Show during this past year. I'm a big TV geek; I rented The Late Shift (video about Leno vs. Letterman after Johnny Carson retired) multiple times.
