I cringe to the center of the earth every time I hear that song and will ever understand what makes that album good.
Sad!
(For everyone else's broken ears).
?
Explain.

Hell yeah, Curren$y is that dude.
Freddie Gibbs deserves a mention, great songs/albums
Had a conversation with someone yesterday about some trends/styles. These vids sum it up:
"The evolution of hip hop" (crank lucas) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPwX1gkPRic (all versions are dope)
Hospin - No Words https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiNNBc557OQ
"You can't understand a damn thing rappers be saying these days" (Crank Lucas) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u-fm4e7dZM
Last one: https://www.facebook.com/MrAntDavis21/videos/1295495280488462/ *old man yelling at clouds*
That said, i still like a lot of stuff these days.
I'm really disappointed in gaf right now. Where the fuck is the love for curren$y??
Dude is THE most consistent rapper of our gen.
Mainstream/radio rap is just terrible IMO. Its obvious as hell that Black people aren't ultimately the gatekeepers for what gets put on airwaves or else we'd see more socially relevant stuff. There's less variety in acts compared to the 90s and less variety in the messaging. Burn it to the ground, the underground is where its at.

Have you tried out any of these? To Pimp A Butterfly is the greatest hip-hop albem ever for me, but that is also the same albem that got me into hip-hop in the first place, so maybe that's not the most unbiased opinion.
I try to get into hip-hop of the past but I find it pretty difficult.
Wooooord. It is currently in a fantastic place and if you don't think so you're either old or out of touch.
And that's fine but leave the rest of us alone with your lame bitter opinions.
Childish Gambino....man I can't get into him. Because The Internet is mediocre and boring and Camp is fucking garbage.
LOLHip hop reached it's peak artistically and creatively in the 90s.
After that there have been a few artist here and there that were decent but as a collective whole the genre is pretty much dead and 2017 was pretty much another doo doo year that helped solidify that.
The biggest artist out right now is Cardi B and The Cash Me outside girl, nothing more needs to be said.
It's a new golden age for Hip-Hop right now.
Yeah those arent the biggest artists so I am almost 100% you do not listen to rap, which explains why you think it stopped being creative in the 90s . . .Hip hop reached it's peak artistically and creatively in the 90s.

Rock music is dead tbh, and I love classic rock, but its current flavor is dead. Can we at least all agree it's a hell of a lot better, and more interesting, than rock music has been?

Or this. Salute!LOL
That just shows that you don't know what you're talking about. It's a new golden age for Hip-Hop right now. And no, I'm not going to give you recommendations. You got the whole internet at your disposal, but probably decided to stay in "Only Real Hip-Hop" groups on Facebook where people only share 90's Rap and post memes about Mumble Rap.
The biggest artists in Hip-Hop were Kris Kross and Vanilla Ice at one point in the 90's. Guess 90's Rap sucked too.
LOL

Why bring billboard into it? Who cares? Top 40 has rarely been a pillar of quality even if it is entertaining. And Cardi B is nothing if not entertaining, mind you.Id say this might be true if you stay away from the songs that chart on billboard.
The radio and popular hip is as bad or worse than its ever been, but there is more music easily available elsewhere than ever before, too, so it kind of balances out. But if you made a mixtape of all the too 10 billboard hip hop songs of the last decade it would (probably) mostly be trash.
(Im sort of curious to see what it would like actually).
