Gran Turismo SPORT | OT | Putting it all on the line

Amazing writeup, thanks!

I screwed up with the blue LED lol
It's blue thread in a blob so no leds on the t-GT wheel.

Also I can't config any of the four knobs. Two of them move the cursor up down left right and the other two are not used.

Was hoping they would control traction or brake distribution or fuel maps or something.

The box claims the turbo shaped power supply is 400w for the wheel that's more juice than the giant tv takes.
Also : turning the wheel there is a subtle notchiness / tooth feeling, but you really don't notice it while driving.

Confession: I bought this game for the photomode.

Putty, are you using a wheel? Your times are consistently up there on my friends rankings in the drivers school.

Fired up the game this morning and golded the first row of driving school. Gonna take my sweet time with the SP events on this one. The meat is clearly on Sport mode and that’s fine by me.

Are we going to have a GAF lobby at some point or even a GAF Time Attack challenge?

Just on pad until the weekend mate...

Sorry if this has been asked, but is the livery editor in this as good as Forza 5 (and I assume the later games)?

This will swing a purchase I think...

People on GTP forum saying the FFB at default is way too strong on T300 base and you should reduce it to minimum to preserve the motor/wheel etc.

It would be awesome if Top Gear or the Grand Tour created an entire segment just using GTS for the visuals. When I was changing my livery colours and it being updated dynamically on the moving demo I was floored.

Finally got to sit with it for several hours.

Anyone that wants to claim there's no single-player content is a goddamn liar and should be punished in some manner.

Its not a traditional GT career though, and I'd imagine in terms of hours, it's not a patch on previous SP content.

On the one hand you can understand people being a bit miffed at it having no traditional GT career, but it's something that has been known about for a very long time.

Has anyone noticed any differences/improvements from the Beta? I haven’t from my few hours.

Oh one thing, you can’t seem change traction control settings on the fly when driving. In the beta ( when playing with DS4) you would press left or right on the analog sticks or d-pad depending on the controller setup.

Everyone killing Brands Hatch with the M4 it seems. I'm getting blown by on the straights in my Genesis. Brand Central only has an N400 model for sale. Does the N300 M4 only come from rewards?
You can up and downgrade the cars. Buying levels for the upgrades allows you to adjust power on a larger range so you can drive a different class.

What I read on a different forum:

"I played the 3 tracks available from the start in VR and I must say, it's a joke, or rather an insult. Kazunori Yamauchi apparently can't get his head out of his ass to focus on gameplay rather than the car.

Good things first, it controls beautifully, load times are decent, it runs smooth and the resolution is ok. The car details are sharper than in DC. And that's where it ends.

The render resolution might be higher than DC VR, yet the track detail is even less detailed. The lighting is completely flat, no shadows, only 2 times of day per track which both look absolutely bland. It seriously looks like a high res ps2 game outside the car.
DC VR has shadows, the sun interacts with track detail and cars, and looks quite lovely when the sun is low. While low res, it's still very convincing at night racing.
Dirt Rally has weather on top of all that and tons more track detail compared to GT Sport's rally track. They focused on what you look at while racing, not the car.

While the cars in GT Sport are in full detail, you can only move your head 1 foot in either direction before the screen blacks out. What's the point of all that detail if you can't even look at it. You can't stick your head out the window either like in DC and Dirt Rally. Oddly I did manage to reset the viewpoint in such a way I could see the helmet of the driver (me) with reflections on it, what's the point of that.

Currently you only have the option of a 2 lap race against 1 AI. Except no difficulty setting and the AI is so slow you can't call it racing. My guess is the AI is only there so you can check out the outside of your car, since the AI always picks the same car."

Do you agree with the criticisms?
The only two criticisms I agree with is the one about not being able to move your head freely in all directions and the easy AI. Every other criticism is false especially the graphics.

The graphics completely blow DCVR out of the water. Yea I'm playing on the Pro and that may have something to do with it but there's no comparison between GTS VR and DCVR when it comes to graphics. DCVR is so blurry, it's like there's Vaseline in your eyes the whole time. I got used to it the way it was after countless hours playing DCVR but GTS feels like "I can finally see clearly now the rain is gone!" lol. The tracks on GT, especially tracks like Tokyo Expressway, demolish any of the tracks in DCVR both in detail and clarity. Some of the tracks even have 3D crowds in the stands. The cars are also more detailed than the ones in DCVR. The polish of the GTS's VR goes beyond what we saw in DCVR in almost every way that matters. The only down side like I said is lack of Multiplayer options. If GTS manages to get multiplayer it will be better than DCVR in almost every way possible.

Finally got up the nerve to do my first online race, even though I'd done quite a few in the demo. Did Brands Hatch with an Alfa 4C, qualified 11th, but the actual race was a mess, people flying everywhere, and either taking corners too fast or too slow. Hard to have a good rhythm with that kind of chaos. Ended up going off the track a couple times, also got bumped quite a few times. Gave up trying to compete and just focused on clean sectors, ended up with a Blue rank. The next seven people in front of me had Red, big surprise.

edit: also it's past midnight PST and no track changes, so I'm not sure when they change...
You did good.

Got the game, I'm downloading 1.02, will probably try it tonight. Pretty pumped, I absolutely adored Sport mode. Championships can't come soon enough

I thought they could individually control those functions like TC, brake bias, fuel maps etc. Without having to filter and navigate through that little menu. Are you sure this can’t be set in the wheel control options? If not then it seems like a bit of a con - possibly a last minute design change in GT

Thanks, that's interesting. Hopefully DF will have an article about the VR stuff, too.

Just started Missions stage 8-1, it's a 3 lap supercar race. So no, there are not significantly more endurance races hidden in the later missions, as stage 7 consists entirely of sections on Nordschleife, not even a single complete lap of it.

Whew. Just did Suzuka East with a Ferrari 458 Gr.4. Qualified 15th (I thought 0:57 was a good time, boy was I wrong). Lots of chaos but luckily I avoided most of it, did a better job of hanging back from people who I knew were going to brake early. Got super nervous by the end and screwed up that last turn into the sand, but still scraped out 9th place. First time I cracked the top 10 in a race. Such a fun track to race the 458 on. I was almost shaking by the end though.

One thing I don't understand is why there's no tracking of races. If this is about sport and improving, why is all that data not available to us? Lap times over time, race histories, analysis per sector. I mean the activity feed doesn't even have races in it! This stuff needs to be in there!

I would rather not leave my pro running overnight so I can finish a 24h race.

Brands Hatch is the third.

Are they the same as all day yesterday? When are they refreshing?

Not sure, they've been the same since I've been on tonight (PST zone).

This game is just trolling me... for 10th level it gave me a Camaro. :/
And apparently a gift car can't be sold. "Do you want to delete it from your garage?" YES

We need to pester KY and PD's twitter (perhaps Sony too) with these questions. Haven't been following GTPlanet so not sure if it's been brought up there.

I wish for global options for car settings. I hate having to change Traction Control to '0' in every bloody Licence/Mission/whatever event. I want it to be '0' in everything I do.

What's going on with GAF Time Trials/Competition? I can't see anything in the Community section.

In the span of 2 days and not even a total of 10 hours I should have 100% gold the entire game, then what? Every time I play the game I wonder on what was the time spent making the game. I don't see how this online is any better than GT5P, GT5P to me was the most enjoyable online GT game. I'm fucking sad.

why are you sad if the game's online is the same as GT5P? surely you should be happy?

No idea what PD has done here but this was miles better for me in VR than DC, the feeling of taking that AMG gr.4 car around the track was brilliant, now i just want to do the Green Hell in all cars in VR but gotta get gold first.

Now i can´t wait for the day we can race fully online in VR on GT.

Just booted the game for the first time

Got a happy bday car (was few days ago ). Don’t even know I put my bday somewhere in my account. Nice touch.

Sad because if this doesn't feel any better than GT5P online, then the cuts made to this mainline game's offline/SP content for the sake of online don't feel justified.

(not saying I agree with that assessment, but that's how I took that statement).

Well for one, they're not rendering more than 2 cars on the track. Then there's also the case of having proper development time rather than the studio shutting down mid-development and having a skeleton crew working on finishing it. And lastly, it's PD.

The netcode in this is so much better than any previous GT game. In the demo I was playing in lobbies of 24 people where the nearest person was 7,500km away, on servers that are 8,000km away, and the game performed flawlessly.

To answer your question, once you've completed the licence tests, you race online. This is an online racing game :)

Will probably, realistically, only happen with the next iteration of the console and, hopefully, an HDR capable PS VR

I know, i know, i´ve waited 20 years for GT to reach this point, now if they can just keep adding and refining/updating this over gens i´ll be extatic.
