Also try doing the ADULT thing and email support@neogaf.com requesting account deletion.

People are doing these things under the idea that the fastest way to get banned is breaking the rules rather than PM a mod that might not give a shit about your request.

I've emailed that address a few times over the past 5 years, for different reasons, and no one has ever responded.

Well public thread posts about it are still more likely to result in a ban, if anything, rather than full account deletion. And I'm honestly skeptical any of the supposed "privacy concerns" have merit. Reaks of childish sarcasm.

The OP is concerned that because he uses the same handle for both professional stuff as well as the forum, it's easy to dox him if GAF users are ever targeted. Also fear of getting googled by a potential employer. So a mod changing his username would help him more than OP changing his account details, if a deletion can't be arranged.

There are definitely privacy issues at play. AFAIK, there are actually privacy laws in place (at least in Canada) that allow customers to request that their information be purged from company databases (unclear if it's immediate or if they can only retain for X # of days, etc). I'm curious as to how this works with GAF, since it's technically not a business.. but it is a money-making venture (via ads).

No it's not? You are the one painting the mods as childish if anything, I am expecting them to handle this reasonably and quickly. Not just ban me for asking. There is active moderation of threads and content but we are limited in PMs and there is only one mod we can currently reach. Instead of account suiciding I essentially put in a ticket for a mod to resolve my issue through a thread, because they are dealing with those immediately. You are injecting your own unnecessary drama into this.

That's a more viable solution, deleting accounts is not as easy as, deleting threads, for example

Uh yeah that's literally what I said, leaving my account behind is a concern of mine and I want to address it. Hence PMing Gromph. Hence doing it again. Hence waiting. Hence still being on GAF. Hence requesting through a thread. Hence still being on GAF. It's about deleting my account, which I can't exactly oversee without being on GAF.

He can do that without being logged in and continuing to post. For the record I don't care what he or anyone else does, I just think saying 'All I want to do is leave' comes off as cheap when you're continuing to post of your own free will.
I've been a part of NeoGAF for like 10 years, I don't even want to leave. It's the decision I think is best and surely you can gather that "All I want to do is leave" is not quite what's been going on here. If all I did was create a thread and leave, THAT would be a theatrical gesture. I'm actually waiting to see my account deleted and explaining myself in the meantime.
I also want the admins to know that I've thoroughly explained this and that I am trying to be plain and practical about it, and that I hope they see this and handle it reasonably.
There was a doxx pastebin going around yesterday with average users. It's a legitimate threat, and people closing their ears and pretending it doesn't exist is ridiculous.
