I'm fully supportive of their desire to create a new forum. You all seem to be painting them as freaking out over EvilLore, when the majority of people are pissed off with how EvilLore has handled all of this. He was fine with politics and womens rights until he became part of the conversation. He didn't manage the situation at all and when threads were opened asking him of this, he just shut the whole site down.

Now instead of actually refuting what happened, he's removed OT and banned all Political and social threads, then blamed OT for all of this.

He shit the site down because too many members lost their minds and were flinging poo all over the place. It was entirely unmanageable.

Changed my mind. Probably going to jump ship when there is a place for me. It looks like the quality of the site is going to be severely diminished, if not already. Every community thread is already making plans. Don’t need a ban, doesn’t matter to me.

I think GAF has entered its death spiral TBH.

With many of the most active members quitting, there won't be as much content fuelling the community (already looks half dead today). Younger generations generally spend their time on social media instead of crusty old forums these days too, so new sign-ups will likely decrease with time. Plus, with the ban on social and political discussion, there's less diversity of discussion now which will see members who took part in that drift away.

GAF is past its prime, and I feel it's just going get worse and worse here in future. It already didn't seem as busy lately as it has been in the 11 years I've spent here.

I'd argue that GAF was growing,particularly over the past three to four years.It was difficult to even get any reply in game OTs because threads were moving so fast.

Last week's scandal solely broke what was a growing,lively forum.

I stopped watching Better Call Saul after the second season. Think it's worth watching the 3rd season? It has it's moments, but I found it to not be worth following. Then again, I thought so after season 2 of Breaking Bad at the time. Boy was I wrong.

I also love the Ralph Steadman art for BB, as a huge fan of HST. I bet Thompson would roll with Heisenburg!

I honestly don't remember. And I don't have the time to dig into that abyss. What I do know is that I stayed as far away as I could, and avoid engaging due to fear of being called out for stating any opinion. Even if it was something "left leaning" you could get called out for not being "progressive" enough.

A lot of OT threads had a reputation for being places to be avoided if you wanted to continue posting on this forum long term.

I posted in OT for years and years without being banned. It's not hard, even if you have an unpopular opinion.

I'm not really sure where to put this, but I've been with neogaf for a decade as of January. I'm mostly a lurker and in the last decade I remember Neogaf being so niche that in the small city I live in, I was one of the only people who knew about it. Now many people know about it, and the limelight isn't kind. I will say in response of everything that has happened recently, I intend to stay, not because of morals, but because this has been my home, even my homepage.

With all of the restrictions that have been made, I worry now, more than ever, if I'll get banned. I worry now with everything being restricted, if I'll be gone because of a post. As a lurker, I've feared posting because I worry about being banned, or being pooled into a guilty association. I stayed because I want to be able to be involved with this community when I can be and to enjoy the dark theme for gaf while I browse it. But if all I can do is worry, and sweat about being banned, and worry if further restrictions will be applied, then what is the future like for the rest of the people here? People need to be able to private message each other now more than ever. If it's a matter of moderators getting an influx of private messages and harassment I can understand, but restricting the soul has never quelled its upset. Everyone is scared of losing the hub of their connection, and maybe only connection, to each other. People are willing to stay because of the situation presented, but they'll leave because they're afraid of being unable to express themselves.

Most are heading to discord to continue with unrestricted chat and no fear of a loss of connection. Many post about other forums to go to in the future. What everyone wants is a neogaf that was here less than a week ago, and realistically it wasn't too much to ask. It's becoming too late, though. I intend on staying here and seeing this through to see where it ends up, but the telltale signs of a change like this, you're going to scare more than just the stray lurker away. If you choose to ban me, I'm sorry for being out of line.

I don't think the mods are all the same, no. Don't have a clue yet in regards to the layout, They do intend to still allow social and political discussion though, rather than censoring it, and the moderator team won't be hidden from the community.

You mean that over the weekend bots somehow cracked the forum and flooded the OT with thousands of threads devoted to calling him out? Because that's how many you would need with modern servers.

He could have kept one thread open and left it all there.

He could have explained to his moderators or gotten temp mods to handle the situation.

He could have used any number of forum tools to just lock any thread that referenced him.

You have dozens of options available to you as admin.

They have given great detail about how they're going be different, and not a lot of the same mods no, everything will be out in the open soon enough though.

Is that such a bad thing? Everyone seemed to like GAF just fine a week ago. What's wrong with that portion of the community wanting to continue on with what was a working model, only without the baggage? But besides having no EL at the helm, the biggest difference will be administration and moderation. Site ownership is being placed in an LLC, so there won't be any consolidated power. As for the mods, it's almost an entirely new team, who have spent the last few days going over tons of feedback about what needs to be changed.

Different, but the same. Anyone in this thread happy that the "SJWs" are leaving won't be happy there, if that's the question.

Pizza Hut doesn't ban customers from looking up other stores and talking to their friends about where the management, selection, and customer service might be better. That's a false equivalence anyway, because the new forum isn't being advertised. It's being shared with select users who wish to move. They don't want anyone that doesn't want to be there.

Also, there is nothing stopping someone from being a member of both sites besides their own moral compass in how they choose who gets ad revenue. Even then there are lots of free browser addons that restrict ads for sites you don't think deserve your revenue.

Yes, he should have. However, he owns the board and makes the rules. I don't agree with it, either. Especially since these are PM's we're talking about. But from a business perspective it makes sense. This is his source of income and NeoGAF is essentially his business.
