Regardless of the veracity of the sexual harassment allegations, what exactly was shutting down the OT supposed to achieve? Spam threads were happening in all sections of the site when GAF went down.

For some reason Evilore's message when the site returned centred on the OT, moderation policy, "focusing on games", and the tone of political discussion in general when that had precisely..... nothing to do with the cause of GAF's problems.

It seemed like a very cack-handed way to try and change the focus of the story by making it appear like the whole forum was mired in some bad juju, when really it was all about the actions of 1 person.

Literally, just the actions of 1 person. If it wasn't for that, GAF would still be running along as normal. What was wiping OT supposed to accomplish, along with the abortive attempt to ban political discussion? Was he really so convinced that people's problems weren't with him?

And shutting down OT didn't cause the exodus, people would've still left if it had stayed up.

I read one that said something like "well I got grabbed in the crotch but I was fine with it". WTF. What about other men who AREN'T FINE with it. They can't speak up for getting shamed.

I think saying "semi-raped" is kind of dishonest. It implies that he was in the process of raping her but stopped short. He stopped once consent was not given. and apparently never did anything to her physically. But yes, he panicked hard.

Wouldn't she had reported him if she wasn't okay with the experience? I'm fortunate to have never experience rape myself, but I have been in situation where I wasn't comfortable, does that mean I was semi-raped?

I've spent some time ruminating over the choice that was made to kill off OT from the perspective of the owner of a forum who has been accused of sexual misconduct. I'm assuming Evilore may not have sought out legal representation before his "open book" story that was leaked by someone on the old moderation team, but only because "The state of NeoGAF" post seemed a bit more even keeled as it was devoid of the same "she's crazy" talk, and instead pointed to her lack of credibility. So, this thought process assumes that "The state of NeoGAF" was posted under legal guidance.

Anyhow, let's now put ourselves in Evilore's shoes:

I'm being accused of sexual misconduct, and on top of that my previous transgressions are getting circulated throughout the internet along with these new allegations. The source of the old material is this very forum. My lawyer calls into question the platform as a source of info to assassinate my character in the court of law. In this case, there were years and years of posts by members of the community that could be seen as less than savory. A prime example is the "Hot Women Threads" that were so prevalent years ago. Threads such as these would most certainly paint me in a negative light, as they were allowed to occur on the platform I owned and moderated. At this point, my lawyer tells me to write a statement regarding the new allegations, which includes verbiage that squarely blames the platform and it's contents with regard to the wiping of OT in order to avoid drawing further scrutiny to my character in a court of law.

i think what happened is some kind of damage control. Regardless of the allegations or anyone's opinion. Did you see how the gamming side was? Off Topic would have been 10x more.in that sense to restore order OT was closed and now reopened, simple as that.

PhantomZhu, I never said he touched her, just for proof that she is saying what Symphonia is claiming she said. He was the one that was talking about “deformation of character”, but he is putting words into her mouth.

In the article, she described it as “rape-y” and he described the action as “harmonious and consensual”, neither party has claimed there was no touching.
