Not to be rude, but why does someone getting banned/warned equal to another user being happy?

Either way, its because ive made a few posts in the past where some helpers were mentioned as being particularly sensitive to ban-actions. Which means: If you post-reply to these users, the chances of you getting banned increase. This is also statistically verafied by the ban bot.

The fact that one such user now gets a warning when (If you want to play this kind of policy to the fullest extent of superficiality) this user would have been permbanned a dozen times already if it was the other way around. Since this does not happen, since even a temp ban was reversed in the past, and the most severe punishment that apparently can be given is a warning, it is noteworthy.

Because it says something about the morality of The Names.

I think the majority of users, like me, moved to ERA (and is active there), because whole communities and the users they like to talk to also moved there. Off-topic got nuked, communities, for my example, SteamGAF, moved to Discord. Some people found themselves on GiantBomb, WayPoint and Slaent, but used the forums to get in contact with their GAF communities and other GAF users. Like I found myself on WayPoint, but got helped there to find SteamGAFs and GAFs Discord.

Many of us had nowhere to go, so ERA was our best option to collect all the communities.

Im on ERA for the PC gaming thread, the game OTs, gaming news threads and the general funny/weird/joke threads. Is it toxic? Maybe, but ERA fills the forum needs that GAF gave me.

I need the PC gaming thread for example, but SteamGAF thread here is dead and the users I talked to moved to ERA.

SteamGAF is like Asgard, it's not a place, it's people. If PC gaming ERA moves back here on GAF I will do it too. The people is more important than the place.

Why don't you try and bring them back?

ERA is more enjoyable when it comes to gaming discussion because it has a much bigger community right now, but I wouldn't say it's "healthier". Especially as gaming threats become more and more political.

NeoGAF is definitely starting to get back on its feet. The shills are coming back because they are starting to feel threatened.

Here is a conspiracy theory for the ages.

Lets say the David Brock memo is happening and there are operatives out there trying to control the narrative.

Cerium was a big time Hillary supporter if memory serves me. He also was the lead pitchfork and torch carrier for the JonTron thing. I am sure there are more examples of that in his history on GAF. How better to control a narrative and make sure you keep control over it than by having a regime change of sorts. If NeoGAF was a country (which in some ways it was, ruled by corrupt mods), the creation of ResetEra was a successful coup. They took nearly all of the userbase to the new site in a matter of days. The site went live so quickly, that it not being planned ahead of time almost seems unbelievable. How else can you ensure total control over a narrative without being in control?

NeoGAF was a referring powerhouse to the Clinton campaign. We certainly were on their radar. tens if not hundreds of thousands of politically active 20 and 30 year olds read it daily.

Nothing felt right about how EviLore was taken down so quickly. Even the story was shaky at best and fell apart with any scrutiny. But it was successful at what it set out to do.

Setting up forum software isn't difficulty, Ive tried it, it shouldn't have taken like 4 days, more like 1.5 days. What made it take so long was to collect all the communities.

Nope what made it take long was, logo leaks, politics, and not having a server setup. They literally scrambled to get everything setup. That's a fact.

It should have not have taken this long sure it would have been a weekend thing but they got so caught up in shit that they didn't make the theme so they bought one, and they had to pick a forum software.

Discord is a poor substitute for a good community thread unless you want to live in that discord. In a community thread, even though a few posters inevitably dominate discussion, you can still take 5 minutes and catch up really quickly when you have time to browse. On Discord you have the same posters dominating, but 10x more. Very easy to miss the actual important stuff because of how painful it is to scroll back through the history. Announcement channels and other dedicated channels help with that kind of thing, but it still sucks imo.

Probably just how I like to use it, discord is popular for a reason but it doesn't fit my middle age lifestyle. Speaking of, I need to go buy my mid-life crisis car.

It's true, but they think in terms of a linear political spectrum, so they think progress is about getting as far away from "far right" as possible, even they become the mirror image. I subscribe to the horseshoe spectrum, so to me they exist in the same ballpark as the nazis the purport to oppose, and I think progress should be about shifting the needle back towards the apex. That means, if the culture is on the left overall (and I believe it currently is), progress would be in the other direction.

I can only speak from my experience, but GAF was a toxic shithole prior to the split. I had stopped posting a lot because the place was unreadable. ERA promised open discussion so I moved over. I wasn't familiar with a lot of the staff. I didn't think the accusation against Evilore was a big deal, but everyone had moved at that point and the new forum sounded better. I was more upset with Evilore because of what he let the forum become rather then the stupid shower story that wasn't even bad.

It was decent for a very very short period of time on ERA. Everyone was polite and positive. That changed quickly. The user base was made up of all the people that made me hate GAF, so I should have seen that. They encouraged conservative viewpoints, but then they started getting hostile threads (like the one capped showing user PlayAllTheGames a page or so back) after a few weeks. The mods stopped moderating the toxic users like that and encouraged them.

Around the beginning of this year Evilore made his posts about what went on behind the scenes. He sounded like a genuine guy that was going through some bad times and wanted to make this place better again, so I came back here to give it another shot. I stuck around ERA also because the posting volume is there, but ended up requesting a ban a few months ago when they reached peak lunacy and seemed to be ok with violence and witch hunts against conservatives.

I think a lot of people may have a similar story. They still have a fast moving board, so a lot of people probably are there for that and try and ignore the shitty moderation. I know a few conservatives that post there that just avoid Etcera completely and anything political/social that seeps into the gaming side.

I never made the jump, so I guess I missed out on what it may have been like initially. I think part of it was because I had a small exchange with Cerium here during the split that was less than favorable. I expressed concern over their policy not to discuss Gaf (it just seemed like a good way to avoid talking about how fucked it was that all of this was based on an accusation), he literally said I was delusional, and I showed him an image of his own rules on their site where it said it. So that combined with the whole guilty until proven innocent thing kept me from rooting my attention into Era, although i'd drop in from time to time to see how it was progressing.

I guess ultimately once the communities shifted that was that. That does help me get a better picture.

Yeah, i actually regret saying "that that entire site was just fucked from the start", because that's WAY too harsh. There is probably a lot of really good, really dedicated people there, who really want to do good or just have a fun time. And I know things in life are complicated, nothing is without its flaws, this site included.

I couldn't stomach the move, but I understand a little more now how others could.

What I hate most about them is their complete lack of any fixed values and so something that's bad when somebody they don't like does it, becomes totally cool when they do it. They base everything on identity politics and who's higher on the oppression totem pole. They complain about harassment and doxxing but they want to do it all the time to people they don't like. Disregarding that this particular mod exists for forever already (Which should tell you how much this user is aware of Bethesda mods) i feel this is so reaching in its intent. Like, i can even picture a discussion where the argument about women curves is ''needed'' or not, but in here, this complaint falls flat completely, even more so because Bethsoft did release nude mods themselves. So i guess Bethesda is now hellspawn aswell (well they already were because of the Doom Eternal ''joke'' amirite)
