C for me. It would be a D or an F if they hadn't 180'd half way into the gen. But this gen still lacks compelling exclusives, so I can't give them anything higher than a C and it's easily my least favorite of the Xbox lines.

Ps4 I would give a B+ and the Wii U a D. (Right now I'll give the switch a B-)

I give them a C. If they had continued down the path they started on this gen it would have been a solid F.

They need to get more games out, not just more, but a better variety. MS needs to work hard with these new studios, keep them happy, and let them take their time to build some strong new IPs they can hitch their wagon to.

If only there would have been a focus in games and solid hardware (such as the X) right from the beginning. It has to be a D.

I'd give them a C too.
The flaws are mainly related to the hardware. My first XB1 S had serious issues, where it would restart itself every 15 mins or so. The charger kit for the controller was something I also found to be of poor quality. Mine stopped working after 12 or so months. Not being able to use 360 controllers on the XB1, is also a big hardware limitation. I cant play fighting games without my 360 arcade stick. Of course, I suspect this limitation is by design, as it forces people to use official XB1 controllers.
Even Xbox Live has had its probs this gen, with downloads being unavailable and games refusing to start. The later is the rarer of the two, but it has been an issue for me in the past.
Still, Ive had lots of fun with the machine and have no regrets over buying it. The XB360 era just seemed a lot smoother in comparison.

F+:
Bought both the Xbox One and PS4 at launch.
I have 10 Games for the Xbox and around 70 for the PS4.

Last generation the other way around. Not that extreme but I definitely preferred the 360.

The games I really enjoyed were Ryse, Dead Rising 3 and Sunset Overdrive.

The only reason I didn't sell the Xbox was the backwards compatibility program. I still have a lot of Xbox and Xbox360 games in my backlog.

I really hope that Microsoft can turn things around with all the studio acquisitions.

Another thing which really pissed me off was the fact that you cannot play any games without updating them before.
While I can play PS4 games and download the update in the background the Xbox requires you to watch the download.
As my time to play is very limited this was the reason I didn't buy a single non-exclusive game for the Xbox.

I'd give it a solid B.

More so with the turn around Phil has managed within the last few years. Phil inherited a fucking mess and has managed to clean some of it up in the last few years, which to me is simply amazing. Though, I've pretty much given up on seeing anything substantial in terms of games for this gen, i'm a firm believer that next gens lineup is going to be killer.

2018 alone has gotten me excited for next gen.

F from me.

It was the worst Xbox so far. Up until this point MS has failed to give me a reason to buy this console. The brank really needs some great exclusives aside from Halo and Gears of War.

M$ started trying to satisfy their Fans very late. At this time Sony was light years away. BC is the best Deal for me, I use it a lot. Base Xbox One with Kinect was absolutely poor, compared to the Base PS4. With XBox One X they act like they did with Xbox 360. Next Gen everything will be better for Xbox Users.

I had an og Xbox, 360 each with more than a hundred games. Microsoft did everything they could to make me buy a PS4 only. I waited for the pro and already have more than 120 games in 2 years.

The X is coming at the end of the gen one year later after the pro, is just a lttle better than the pro, cost more, and worst does not have Sony 1st party games quality. It's a bad situation. I still have more games for mega cd or 3do than xbox one x. Next gen is not on sale yet but i'm pretty shure i'll be on Sony side, not because Sony is great, but because Microsift is bad.

It's a N for me. I still can't believe how they f**k hard their enthusiats. X should be less expensive than pro in order to be an instant buy, in line with PS4. They should have drop the S. Live is where big money is. Microsoft still does not get it. It's bad but not a wiiu level, the X is a great hardware. 😉

An F to an N

And I don't say this to troll. I was genuinely interested in the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. From the day Xbox One was announced, I just couldn't get into it.
Killer Instinct and Ryse had my attention at first. As well as Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break. But eh, I still didn't feel pushed over the edge to buy an Xbox One like I did with my PS4.

The toughest sell about the modern Xbox is that it's just so similar to the PC. Even though PS4 also shares that same problem, there were still some things about it that made it different (i.e exclusive Japanese games, Sony's own 1st party IP's).

The Xbox needs more identity outside of "we get the multiplatform games too!".

So nothing in the games list in the OP caught your eye?

I like Rare games so Rare Replay might be the one that says "I got to have it".

All the rest I could get them on PC, which kind of diminishes the value for wanting the Xbox version.
Even though Microsoft is still going to make money from this, it deters people like me from wanting to buy the Xbox when a PC version is always around the corner.

Luckily for MS however the vast majority don't have capable PC's. So since the 360 they've kind of really haven't been catering to players such as yourself. Well, outside of Halo and rare replay, and a few other games they didn't port to PC intentionally.

N. I thought the one x was a sign for things to change, to get better... it did not - everything is still the same. The os, the ui... horrible!

A since Phil Spencer / Satya turnaround, definitely. GamePass, BC and X made me forget all the initial missteps.

I have them a D

First of all the fiasco at launch and under powered hardware.
Second the disaster that has become the Halo franchise this gen (my favorite game series ever btw)
Third the OS is awkward to navigate compared to the 360 and I just don't enjoy it.
Fourth so many minor technical problems. I feel like my launch unit was always plagued by controller disconnect, my S frequently had trouble launching disc titles and my X has to be hard reset at least once per week to connect to WiFi.

This is the gen that has almost made me quit gaming however I will give them credit where credit is due... the X is a monster, and they have been amazing about backward compatibility.

I am confident that the Xbox One will be forgotten as an okay not great console and that all the mistakes made here will be big lessons learned for Scarlett.

C+

Started with the wrong foot, took too long to turn things around but eventually did, and the 1X is awesome. They have a lot of room for improvement next gen.

Hmm
B for me. The X is a damn fine machine... however I wish they had the game lineup that Sony has. Sony is an A for me. They just did it right by focusing on games.

I will say one thing, them naming it "Xbox One" has caused me great headache search for actual Xbox 2 stuff the past 4 years. However at least no one was confused about the name and though it was an add-on for the 360.

C+ for me, although its my main console this gen, I recognize its significantly weaknesses. Turned it around a bit towards the end, but the lack of games like the PS4 had is really bad

F for me because If you don't have an Xbox one X you're left with the worst of the lot. Far too many people forget about the original and say the X is the best console even though they have the original.

In terms of exclusives, they were weak and lackluster. Yes this will change with the new one but I'm not going to be taking out my wallet straight away

Gave them a B+ for turning things around, stomping everyone else in features, ousting scrooge McMyerson and getting the money flowing again and finally adding some First Party studios. They are "pot committed" to gaming now...no arguement can be made against that.

Also, huge eye roll at all of these "console warrior fuel" threads lately...Wish this place could just be more positive all around about games in general, no matter the platform.

Wii U? Base Xbox was still powerful just not as powerful as the Base PS4.

Well, the Switch replaced it

So between PS4, Switch and Xbox, I feel the Xbox itself was bad. If I include the upgraded system yeah it was a good upgrade but not for me or other original owners. Even Phil Spencer at the awards was reluctant to say they had a good 2018. He knows overall it hasn't been what it should be.

Again the next system will fix that because they're buying up companies

The Switch still being weaker than the Base Xbox One.

Weaker how it's selling and the games/exclusives keep coming but it's early days for the system so maybe I'll feel different when the system is as old a the Xbox. I just feel let down overall

I thought you were talking about Power since you brought up the X previously.

Exclusive games library aside, Microsoft gets credit for designing their games to be scalable, providing a good deal of backwards compatibility support and featuring UHD Blu Ray playback. That media drive has become an expectation for me thanks to Sony, that they ushered it in with CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray, but passed it up with UHD Blu-Ray still disappoints me.

Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I gave it an F because it lacked so much for me as a system in comparison to the others and I mentioned the power because when I point out this I usually get "Yeah but it's more powerful than the others". People forget about the original system and act like it doesn't exist and the X is the only console they made this gen.

N, quite seriously. They handed the generation to Sony on a silver platter. It's the most colossal screw-up I've personally seen from a console manufacturer. (I'm sure you can find bigger in history -- probably involving Sega; but I wasn't paying attention to those.)

That was price the system later caught up with the massive lead the Xbox 360 had but the Xbox one announcement some might stay killed the system's launch and hurt it ion the long run.

Let's not forget this famous video. Which also wasn't good at all
